Depends on what you want to know. How to get back through it? That takes a lot more magic than I can muster.

[huntersdaughter]

[She shakes her head.] No, I've been here too long for it to be worth it to try and go back. [Because, clearly she doesn't care if he knows that about her, now.]

[There's a small frown.] Do you know people who have gone back? [It seems an interesting topic to start out on when she asked about the Veil.]

[rituals]

Not personally. But I've heard of it being done by magicians in the distant past.

They say Merlin himself knew the trick. Not sure if there's anything to that.

[huntersdaughter]

Sounds like rumors to me. People wanting to hold onto hope. To think that there might be an answer out there, somewhere.

[She shrugs.] I've never gone looking for the answers to that thing. It dropped me off and I know that if I hadn't ended up here... I would probably be dead. So, I just keep going.

Sometimes, though, I wonder if one day it'll just stop bringing people here.

[rituals]

Not likely. Seems more like it's damaged, malfunctioning.

Unless something out there fixes it, I don't think it's going to stop of its own accord.

[huntersdaughter]

Malfunctioning? [That's something she hadn't considered.] How is it supposed to work normally?

[rituals]

Keep magic out of this world entirely. Gods and all.

[huntersdaughter]

Was it like that before? [She frowns a bit.] Did this place not have any magic at all?

[rituals]

S'how it was meant to be. According to the Angels.

[huntersdaughter]

[She's not sure if she should keep asking him questions. Maybe this isn't a topic he's thrilled about doing a deep dive on, but she's never thought about the Veil as something that's not working right. She just assumed it was just something this world had.]

Meant to be, but hasn't ever been before? Because, it wouldn't surprise me if Angels just had a bucket full of wishful thinking.

I didn't say that. They claim this world was made to punish us, that not having magic's a punishment. You've never heard that twisted take on dogma, where this world's nothing but a prison?

Guess there's just some gaps in the bars.

[huntersdaughter]

[She is trying to follow all of this, because it feels like it's important, but it's also something where it could just be the weird ramblings of a guy that thinks he knows better. It's a lot to absorb for a first time meeting.]

Any clue who is supposed to be keeping an eye on the cage?

[rituals]

Plenty of argument over that point exactly.

[huntersdaughter]

Sounds like a thrilling conversation.

[She finishes her beer and leans back in her seat.]

Is it something that you're looking into -- or just in the know.

[rituals]

It's a point that's come up in conversation with a few cosmic entities.

[huntersdaughter]

Oh, right, of course. Those cosmic entities, such gabbers. [She has no clue and she's actually curious about these cosmic entities -- unless it's more angels. Those she's fine not hearing more about.]

Keeping 'em talking is a good way to keep alive. Just a tip.

[huntersdaughter]

I'll keep that in mind for the next time.

Not that I have a habit of running into those types.

I'm surprised, when you make a habit of following strange men who buy strange items.

[huntersdaughter]

I wouldn't say it's a habit per say. [She drawls, glancing to him with mild amusement.]

It paid off today, though.

You haven't run screaming yet. Seems you're quite an unusual woman.

[huntersdaughter]

[She chuckles.] There's alcohol here. I'd stick it out for that alone.

Is that the only reason?

[huntersdaughter]

It's a quick cut, something abrupt and unexpected that has her suddenly back in the hallway outside his apartment. Her fingers are tucking into the loose knot of his tie, yanking it hard as her other hand pulls the ends of her own shirt out of the waist of her jeans. It's hurried and rushed, but she's never really been the type to take things slow and steady. From the hallway to the doorway. Heavy breathing and amused sounds come along with the fumbling of fingers as more clothing is shed and left behind them. She goes from against the doorway to against the wall. Supported by him. Surrounded by him. It's a blur of skin and tongue and teeth and --

Jo clears her throat, catching herself in the brief fantasy before returning her attention to her beer.]

Nope. Just the beer.

[ well that was a ballin' sense motive check on his part, so he at least catches some meaning in her pause there and sits watching her carefully for a long moment, before finishing off his own drink in one swig. ] Pity, that.
