The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Ahsoka still feels out of place, but she's hoping continuing to actually pursue attachments might help with that. It's what normal, non-jedi people do, right? So she's at another party, still not bothering to dress up at all (disguise 10), still carrying her lightsabers and still not sure how to talk to people.

She makes an effort, though, approaching people with a smile that's only a little forced.]

So, they have these parties every month, huh? That's.... cool.

[Besides that she can be found hiding by the food table, taking refuge in eating to avoid having to look awkwardly alone. She's the only Togruta here, the only one most people have even seen. It's... a strange and uncomfortable feeling.]

[hawkeing]

I haven't honestly been paying attention, [ hawke admits. for once she's actually dressed for the occasion (disguise 20 total), though it likely won't last. she doesn't do parties much. they usually end in someone dying or getting possessed by a demon. or, most likely, both. ]

My squiring was in April and I haven't been to once since.

[ doesn't mean there hasn't been one. just that she... hasn't attended.

she turns, still finding it pleasantly odd that she has to introduce herself here. ]

I'm Hawke and still new enough not to have a clue how any of this works. But if you ask me anything, I will do my best Varric impression and make up something wild. If I don't know the answer.

[ on the plus side, she doesn't even blink at this woman(?)'s looks. she's seen stranger. qunari, for instance. ]

Varric impression? [She tilts her head, looking somewhere between puzzled and amused.]

I was squired last month. Presumably eventually they'll send me out to actually do something, but it hasn't happened yet.

[Not that she's... remotely stir crazy.]

He's a friend who loves telling stories. You never really know what's truth and what isn't. [ if only she had one of his books here. like hard in hightown. that'd be fun. ]

I've yet to really be sent anywhere. I think they might just worry that I'll scare everyone away.

[ cracking terrible jokes and puns is such a hard job. ]

All right, two questions for you: what sort of training do you do and are you a fan of dogs?

I'm a Jedi Knight. [Well, she was one. She was trained as one. Though so far no one's really understood what that meant anyway, she still corrects herself:] I use the Force. And sure, I like dogs well enough.

[She doesn't really have strong feelings on them.]

[hawkeing]

I know a lot of people like that. Doesn't always work the way they think it should. Sometimes they just fall over with the force of enthusiasm.

[ okay bad pun aside. ]

What's a Jedi Knight? Is that anything like a Knight Enchanter?

[nojedi]

I don't know what a Knight Enchanter is, but it's not... magic. [Something she hadn't even thought about until she got here.] It's something that flows through every living thing. I simply can feel it and use it.

[hawkeing]

[ confusing, but okay. ] That almost sounds like the Fade in a way. Except the Fade is a place and less a source of energy. Plus it has demons and lot of other nasty things living in it. Something tells me your Force doesn't have nightmare spiders in it.

[nojedi]

Well, it contains every living thing, so that includes nightmare spiders. But them being part of it doesn't mean we'll ever come into contact with them.

[It's entirely possible that Ashe recognizes something of herself in Ahsoka, even from a distance. She, too, has opted out of dressing up (Disguise 9), having had her fill of it during her own squiring after-party, and has chosen to attend in a more casual dress.

She spots Ahsoka early in the evening, noting that she seems to be having some difficulty making conversation, and when she sees the girl taking refuge by the food, she carefully maneuvers herself in that direction. Ahsoka might look different, but Ashe knows all too well how it feels to be among new people and to feel as though you stand out-- besides, whatever this girl is, she's no stranger than a Qunari.]

You seem ill at ease. I promise, most everyone here has been very kind-- though it can feel overwhelming, being among the newer recruits. I'm Ashelia.

[nojedi]

Ahsoka. [She nods in greeting, allowing a smile. Ashelia isn't wrong--she does feel ill at ease--but it isn't out of fear for people's kindness. If anything, that's been part of the problem. She's been at war for so long, being in a world at peace is hard for her to wrap her head around.]

Everyone has been kind, but it's very... different from the galaxy I call home. I'm getting used to it.

[She nods her understanding. Really, that's something they have in common.]

It's very different from what I know, as well. Not only in setting, but in the way people treat one another. My kind isn't well-liked in Thedas. As you can imagine, I found the order's kindness in itself to be quite surprising.

[nojedi]

My kind doesn't exist here.

[As far as she can tell, anyway. It's not a very large planet, from what she's been able to ascertain, but it's certainly a disorganized and primitive one. Searching through the "internet" as they call it here had yielded nothing useful, and certainly no other examples of other Togruta.]

Members of this organization have been kind, though. You're right about that.

I've not seen anyone else who looks like you, at the very least, but that doesn't mean you're alone.

[Perhaps there are no others who are exactly like her, but:]

We do all have one thing in common. In this world, we're all Shadowkind, whether or not we resemble one another.

Great. That's reassuring. Lumping groups of very different people together like that never ends poorly.

[She laughs just a little, and it's mostly genuine.]

The people of this world certainly aren't right in doing so, but we are all far from home. Seems like reason enough to consider each other friends, help one another if we can.

[She has no idea what a Hufflepuff is, but she sure as hell is one.]

Be nice if everyone saw it that way. [Ahsoka's not sure if she sees it that way or not. She might be far from home, but her home seems to be very, very different than anyone else's here.]

[ speaking of strange and uncomfortable feelings... jaina doesn't look like she's enjoying this party much. she's hunched in a seat, wearing her leather jacket and jeans, and watching the guests with an odd look on her face.

ahsoka might notice, however, the lightsaber hilt hanging from her belt, peeking out beneath the jacket. ]

[WELP I don't have a character sheet yet but I rolled and she sure got a natural 20 so I guess the Force was guiding my dice. Ahsoka definitely sees that lightsaber, as well as the grumpy expression that Ahsoka can relate to. It's weird. Being at a party. She assumes that it's as weird for this other Jedi as it is for her.

She goes up to her, possibly nudging a few people aside with the Force so that she can get there faster. But this is exciting. The first person she's seen that'll actually know what she's talking about!]

You're a Jedi!

[A beat. She could be a Jedi. She also could be someone who has a lightsaber by chance. It wouldn't be the first time. She could be a Force user who isn't a Jedi. Like Ahsoka now, or worse. Like a Sith.

She reaches out with her senses. The Force is certainly strong in this one, and... naggingly familiar in a way that she can't quite place. But not dark. So Jedi is probably right.]

[flyingsolo]

[ it's the last thing she expects to hear, particularly with that level of enthusiasm. but the world is full of more and more strange coincidences and there's something familiar about the woman's unusual species. the name togruta floats to the front of her mind, unbidden. ] Excuse me?

[nojedi]

[Ahsoka takes one of her lightsabers from her belt, holding it up, though she doesn't activate it.]

You have a lightsaber. Like me.

[flyingsolo]

[ recent experiences put her on edge at the sight, honestly. ] Where did you get that?

[nojedi]

I made it. [She pulls it a little closer to her chest and gives Jaina a slightly more suspicious look.] Did you... not make yours?

[flyingsolo]

Technically, it's not mine. [ close enough now, right? ] But the Jedi it belonged to was killed.

[nojedi]

[Ahsoka presses her lips together, giving the other woman a wary look.]

Did you kill them?

[It's certainly not unheard of. And even if this woman doesn't give her a bad feeling, well, she's been wrong before. And other Jedi have been wrong about her before.]
