The Knights fly into the port city of Cape Town in the height of summer, which luckily for them is actually a comfortable Mediterranean climate. They have come in search of Le Chien de l’Onyx to return it to it's former (and rightful) owner, the elf mage Nieulor -- it had been stolen from him in eighteenth century France and once Nieulor was freed from the Bastille, he had tracked its whereabouts across the globe trying to retrieve it. Finally, he has found it in Cape Town and the Knights have been asked to meet him for further information at the Blanched Escargot, a hole in the wall French restaurant on the waterfront.

I'm Shawn Spencer, I'm here to rescue you.

[Wait, why does that sound familiar?]

[ shawn finds: a man dressed in a filthy business suit and with long blond hair. he looks something like a young middle age, but maybe older, we just don't know. while he’s not injured beyond minor cuts and visible bruises, he is in terrible condition -- dehydrated, weak, and disoriented and currently tied up. he blink up at shawn in confusion.

the smuggler however is busy fighting off the girls and... kind of not succeeding either as he aims at thea and misses entirely even being so close. what an irritating stalemate. (atk 10) ]

[ indra stumbles back from the blow, and moves around to try and flank him with thea, trying again :| if he fails his attack of opportunity... that might make things worse, because she crit failed... ]

[ the smuggler succeeds (atk 17) #blessed, but his distraction gives thea the break away to successfully jab in with her katana (atk 29, crit on 19, dmg 22) and the smuggler crumples, unconscious, almost immediately, leaving thea standing there startled for a moment before she wipes her sword on her jeans. /init ]

Shawn! You okay?

[ at shawn's words the captive murmurs something in french before sliding back into english, heavily accented and raspy: "Thank you." ]

I'm good!

[And he'll move to untie their friend quickly (dexterity(?) 18).]

It's okay. We'll get you out of here.

[ indra bends to check the guy's pocket, kicking away his weapon while she's at it (search 7) ]

[ indra finds an m9 pistol (2d6) and extra ammo, while shawn manages to untie the captive's bonds.

"Do you have water?" ]

I don't, [ thea says with a frown as she approaches. ] But we do have a cleric with us. Taradiddle!

Seriously? No one else packed a water bottle?

[But okay, she guesses she can share. She holds out a sticker-covered Nalgene.] Go wild. I'm a cleric, so any spit in there makes you healthier.

I did, but it doesn't have water in it.

[Because why I have water when you can have a soda loaded with caffeine and sugar. But that being said, he crouches down next to the man he just freed.]

What's your name? Are you from around here?

[He'll get into why he was being held hostage in a bit.]

[ indra begrudgingly pockets the weapon, if only not to leave it behind for someone else, and stands to join the others, hovering behind shawn's shoulder as she looks between them, waiting for an answer.

"Please," the man says weakly. "I need water." ]

[Shawn will take the water bottle Taradiddle is holding out and pass it over to him with a nod.]

[ he chugs it down, as they notice some bruising on his cheek. he speaks in english, but with a french accent, and sounds disoriented.

"I've lost track of how many days I have been here." ]

Well, hopefully we'll be able to get you out of here ASAP.

[He probably remembers the way out. Probably.]

Do you think you can walk? We probably should get out of here before any friends of his show up.

[bloodrager]

[ the man nods, and indra goes to prop him up with her strong arms yo, looking to shawn ] Let's get him out of here.

[And Shawn will nod before using his photographic memory to try and navigate them out of the tunnels and into the world above (navigate 21).]

[ they are partway up when he stops them.

"Wait... wait, my briefcase! It is very important that we recover my briefcase. Please." ]

[A briefcase. Cool. Got it.]

Where did you see it last?

[bloodrager]

[ "They took it from me... It can't have been too far. I thought I heard them locking it up in the next room."

indra looks to shawn with a questioning expression. ] Maybe we should send him with the cleric and go back.

[pwnspatrickjane]

[He nods in agreement before turning back to Taradiddle and relaying the way back up to the surface as much as he can (wisdom 13). Then he'll glance to Thea.]

Team Briefcase or Team Great Escape?

Team Briefcase, duh.

[ as if there was any other choice. ]

Awesome. Then let's do this.

[And off they go to go looking for a briefcase (search 14).]

[ heading back through, they find a room where there is a chain-locked cage with a pile of things inside, a shiny metal briefcase on top of the pile ]

That must be it. How do we get it out?

Pick the lock?

[He knows how to do it but he might not necessarily be good at it, so he'll glance to Thea to see if that's in her wheelhouse before he gives it a shot.]

[ thea shrugs. not her wheelhouse. ]

If that fails we could just take the whole thing.

[He gives a small shrug, before stepping forward and giving picking the lock a shot, in all his untrained glory (disable device 6). He's not very good at it.]
