Sidelined from the mission that has been many of their lives for years, the group who had once stood against Keijen Blade has made a dangerous gambit - they've decided to leave the Knighthood, knowing they may never be allowed to return.  With them, have gone Sam and Dean Winchester, and Faith Lehane.  Their destination?  A distant monastery overlooking the village of Krozna, in the Ural Mountains.   This hidden location was home to many Shadowkind who did not wish to deal with the prejudice that their appearance might force upon them out in the world, particularly in Russia.  Wynn had apparently established a location here for Knights that broke the rules of the Knighthood so extremely to reflect upon their crimes, or for those whose powers made it impossible for them to live out in civilized society.

This monastery of misfits is run by a man named Mikhail Kalachnik, a willing exile who volunteered for the position, a man vouched for as trustworthy by both Jack Chessing and Finnick Odair.  It is here that the former Knights will set up a base of operations from which they intend to rescue Rafael Giovanni, research a way to stop Keijen Blade, and take him down once and for all, along with the evil Mind Master.  

But first, they must get to know the exiled Knights with whom they will be sharing this hideout...

She can share with me, I'll wear her like a backpack.

[ shove the collar back on the coat a little and lu's head and just poke out the back. vi's small enough that two people could fit inside a borrowed coat, one person and a toddler will be fine. ]

Maybe make a poncho out of a small blanket. We didn't actually get a packing list before we got here, but there's gotta be a shop in the village I can raid for parkas.

[uncease]

[He will defer to Vi's expertise on that matter of keeping her own child warm. He nods and pushes himself up to standing, keeping hold of Lucia's hand.]

We'll just stop by my room first and then head out to introduce you to some of my friends.

[And on the way...]

So it seems a lot has happened since I left.

[graveflowers]

Yeah. Just... a little. [ a little. ] Remember how I told you I was gonna marry that elf, Luthir, the one from my birthday party, the one who came to hang out with me in Chicago?

[ she shrugs, looking a little smug still because no matter what happened, no one can say vi didn't fight for what she wanted. ] I married him.

[uncease]

[His jaw drops a little and his eyes light up because- well, that sounds great!!! Such a happy thing that definitely didn't end in tragedy!!!]

That's amazing. Talk about a called shot. [He grins at her, but then it kind of hits him.] Wait- is he here with you guys?

[graveflowers]

No. [ her smile only slips a little because she feels bad about bursting his bubble. ] He died, the night after the wedding. Lu was our wedding night baby.

[uncease]

[Well, there's some emotional whiplash.]

I'm... God, I'm so sorry, Vi. What happened? [He stops and shakes his head.] Sorry- you don't have to answer that.

[graveflowers]

It's okay. The god that was stalking me, we fought him. Luthir died to protect me and Lucia. A unicorn told us I was pregnant, it was a whole thing.

[uncease]

[he just stares at her because... wat]

That's literally the least insane version of events, bud. You're gonna have to trust me on that.

[uncease]

[He raises both eyebrows and nods, still leading them to his room. Which isn't terribly far so surprise we're here. He opens the door and steps in, holding it open for the both of them. It's pretty bare. There's a bed, a sword, a couple changes of clothes, and a small crate that's got a few bundles of folded paper that are wrapped with twine.]

I think I've got something under... [He gets down on the floor and reaches under his bed for a spare blanket he used more in the early days before his body acclimated to the cold.] That and my extra coat should keep you warm enough. [He grabs that as well and holds both out to her.]

[graveflowers]

[ vi takes them but her eyes are drawn to the crate. ] Writing your memoirs? Pretty sure they kicked someone out of the Knights for that.

[ she gestures lu over and starts fussing with the blanket around her, trying to figure out the best way to keep her warm. ]

[uncease]

[He looks confused for a moment, then notices where she's looking.]

Oh. No, those are just... [He trails off and lets out a quiet laugh.] Letters. They're letters. [He glances down at Lucia. If anyone would understand, it would probably be Vi.] To my daughter. Emma. Did I tell you about her? God, it's been so long...

[graveflowers]

You told me you had a family, I didn't realize they were here.

[ if she did, vi would have sought his family out once david vanished. ]

I also didn't... realize she was old enough to be a knight. [ lmao or that emma is her age??? ]

[uncease]

It was... difficult for me to process back then. I don't remember anything from before the Veil. I still don't really understand it, but being here has given me time to realize that it doesn't matter if it doesn't make any sense.

[graveflowers]

[ vi's expression twists with sadness. all this time he could have had his family... ]

I'm sorry, David.

[uncease]

[He shakes his head.]

What happened... what I did? What could have happened if I stayed? I needed to be here. Emma deserves a better father than the man I was back then.

[graveflowers]

[ chewing on her lip: ] What did happen?

[uncease]

[He takes a deep breath and sits on the edge of his bed.]

There was a woman- Amara, a powerful magic user. We met her on a mission. She was cursed and believed that she loved me. She made advances, but she didn't have real control over what she was doing. I was completely capable of saying no, but I didn't.

[graveflowers]

Oh, you--

[ vi shakily exhales, rocking back on her heels as lucia tries to squirm out of the about to be a poncho blanket. she doesn't say he did the right thing coming here or forgive him in the other woman's stead, but she nods, accepting that as something that happened and moving on. ]

Do you think she might deserve you now?

[uncease]

Honestly, I don't know. I hope so. But I don't know if anything I do can make up for what I've done. Even if there was something, as long as Amara remains cursed, I'll be here. If she knew where I was, she'd stop at nothing to find me. And while I know that I wouldn't make the same terrible choice again, I don't want to trigger that compulsion in her.

Well.

Very selfishly, I'm glad you're here. Specifically right now, here with me, in this place. And I'm glad you're okay. And maybe, when you get back, don't listen to your voicemails because there's, like, so many, I literally filled it up.

[uncease]

I'm glad I'm here too. [For lots of reasons, but right now it's mostly to be able to see her right now and meet her daughter.]

I'm sorry if I worried you. Wynn kept this place pretty hush hush. He didn't tell me where we were until we landed.

Yeah, neither did Jack, hence the only warm enough to England clothes. And they told me you were safe, when I asked.

[ brushing off his apology. she pulls the pocket knife out of her back pocket and flicks it open to stab a hole into the blanket so she can rip it and pop lucia's head through. ]

Oh, very lovely.

We can get you both some warmer clothes in the village. We buy items from them here or there as we need them. It might be good to give them a heads up that they may be in high demand in the near future.

Yeah, I think Myri wants to check out the village later so maybe she can let them know. [ vi makes a mental note to do so as unties the scarf that served as her belt and loops it around lucia's waist to hold the poncho snug to her little body. ] There we go, that will work for now.

[ "Time to go?" ]

Yep, ready for adventure. Climb up, Glowbug. [ commence piggy backing. david will need to help vi get her borrowed parka on, but she can take care of the rest, buttoning it up and reaching back to flip the hood over lucia's head as she settles comfortably in. once they're all buttoned in, vi's arm twists back to support lucia. ]
