War of Hearts - Russell Taylor
WHO ||Dean, Rose, Sam, Alainn [closed]
WHAT || Dean & Rose spontaneously tie the knot
WHERE || The French Quarter 24/7 Wedding Chapel, New Orleans
WHEN || A couple weeks post LA, after the Rafael rescue (2017)
HOW || Actionspam (single thread)
[ No one probably ever thought this day would come, probably least of all the bride and groom.
But a surprise proposal (of sorts) from Rose has led them both here, as the clock clicks close to midnight, to one of the only 24/7 wedding chapels there is, conveniently located right here in New Orleans, where they happened to make the decision. Neither one of them seems to want a big wedding, so much as they just want to get married already, although everyone is a little concerned that Dean is going to develop cold feet as the time draws nearer. With a nat 20 will save though, he's actually eerily calm about the whole thing as Sam drives him to the place and they fill out the paperwork, while Alainn gets Rose ready in a nearby room. Dean takes a moment to slip the guy running the place some cash money under the table not to put their name up on the public registry that they keep on their website, to at least not flagrantly advertise their location. By the time anyone traces them here from the actual signing of documents, they should be long gone. Once all that's done, Dean and Sam have a few moments alone while they go to process everything, and he steps into the chapel room, walking slowly down the aisle with his hands shoved in the pockets of the suit that Alainn picked up for him and Sam talked him into actually wearing, studying the kooky decor with a pensive look on his face. ]

She doesn't say anything either, it's not her place. If anything, she felt more like a burden to be privy to such personal history. She knew enough of Dean to know he held his cards so close to the chest for a reason, and now he was bearing his most personal self with two more people. If she were asked to leave she wouldn't bat an eye, understanding that there is only so much pain you can ask others to help you bear, and sometimes that was harder than the actual pain, the sharing of it.
But she also isn't going to be the one to bring her presence into focus again, preferring to keep an eye out for anymore unwanted guests.]

...Again, apparently?
The curtain is mostly drawn closed, just leaving enough space for him to peer out without giving any view of the room behind him, just in case there's something out there trying to watch. But he, too, turns when Rose comes out, eyes on her changed appearance as she settles in - not where he'd expect, but he doesn't touch that at the moment. There's already enough emotional tension in this room as it is. He doesn't have a drink - yet - so he instead crosses his arms over his chest as the brothers talk. Sam's offer is generous - and one he would have taken the younger brother up on - but he knows Dean well enough to know that's probably not going to fly now. Not after what they'd all seen tonight.
So instead, he lifts a hand to rub over his face before coming to sit on the edge of the other bed, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees. ]
Alright. Someone start at the beginning.
[ He doesn't even know who to direct that to at this point, considering they all seemed to have pieces of this broken puzzle. ]

Sam rolls his beer bottle between his hands, volunteering himself as the one to start this conversation because, of the three of them holding most of the info, he's probably the one most willing to talk.
Sounds about par for the course.]
I should probably start off by saying that I came through the Veil almost five years ago now. Dean didn't. He's bee on this side his whole life...along with the guy we just 'ran into' back there.
[He lets that hang a second, as if that will help him process what that means before he continues.]
There are bits and pieces of what I remember that doesn't line up with what happened here, but most of it's the same.

Same start to it all, except here, it was Lucifer's blood that got fed to Sam as a baby. They marked him out right from the start. Because of me, and some prophecy about our family, and how it was all supposed to play out. [ that, in itself, is a pretty telling statement from dean, who flat-out states that he feels personally responsible for the fact that sam was ever even targeted by hell in the first place. he's gonna gloss past that real fast though ] I don't know what you even know, Bobby, or what it was even like where you come from. About our parents... what happened to Dad...
But here, eventually it all led to Sam dyin' and me making a trade to bring him back. I got a year, and he got a second chance.
Eventually, that year was up. [ he clearly hates telling this part, even more so because he's not sure what bobby might already know and he doesn't really want to discuss it any more than he has to ] That's where things got complicated.

That's the last thing I remember before I popped through the Veil. I think it was when that was...about to happen. Me, um, dying, I mean.
[He remembers Dean calling his name, telling him to look out, followed by a harsh grip on his shoulder.
And then...this.
Sometimes he wonders about his Dean, but it always bothers him way too much to dwell on it. It's something he'll probably have to deal with sooner or later, but they haven't really had time amidst everything else happening all the time.]
no subject
[ His voice sounds tired at that. He hates the direction this is going in already. ]
I think we should assume from the get-go that there are some similarities but probably more differences than any of us care for, so probably play safer to that end of things in your explaining. Where I came from, there's was no prophecy about your family, Dean - 'least not that ever got leaked to me. It was Sam that was the link in - not through Lucifer himself but that yellow-eyed bastard. Before I came through the Veil... well, that had all just gone to shit.
[ He gives Dean a pointed look, because he Strongly Suspects how the elder Winchester had resolved that particular problem - back home, at least - even though he hadn't personally had time to confirm it before falling into this world. Sam dying and then suddenly not being dead was a pretty big clue. ]
You boys sure do have a damned good talent at making things 'complicated'.
[ You know what? He's getting up to grab that beer now. He is way too sober for this conversation. ]

They dragged me to hell, and I stayed down there until an angel named Castiel hauled my ass out. [ that's the very short version and that's what you're getting and be glad you're getting that much. there is no eye contact with anyone in this room. potentially ever again. ] He told me about the prophecy, and that the archangel Michael had tasked him to save me. For this... quest of theirs. [ how many times must he revisit this lately ] It was supposed to change everything. Redeem mankind.
Save everybody.

...but he'll turn back around to that some other time instead of derailing what they've got going on already. It's pretty clear that Dean hates everything about having to hash this out again, considering he just did it what...earlier today with him? Yikes.]
It basically turned into Hell screwing with- [He almost says 'us' but he...wasn't technically there. It's weird, okay.] -Dean and everyone else at every opportunity, setting us up for misery while Heaven just sort of watched it all happen.
The Sam you just saw ended up signing up with Hell along the way. A lot of people died...including this side's version of you. And Dean decided he'd had enough of the bullshit and told the angels to screw it, basically.

She’d never regretted that decision. Not once in the years she’d been with him and that wasn’t about to change just because his Fiend Brother and her Fiend ex-best friend had ruined their wedding. She might not have a whole lot left in her to give tonight, but she could at least give him this.
She doesn’t say anything, just slips from the bed as Sam picks up the story and crosses to where Dean sits. She doesn’t try and make him look at her, doesn’t try to compromise him any more than he already is. She just lingers there for a moment; standing beside his chair as they face opposite directions. The back of her hand ever so lightly brushing against him before she allows it to come to rest on his shoulder, squeezing gently. A reminder that no matter how shit this all is, he isn’t alone in it.
It’s not much. Not enough and she’s not sure anything she can say or do or be ever will be but that’s not entirely the point. ]

[ He holds up a finger at Dean, his expression one of perplexed disbelief.
He opens his mouth to ask a question. Closes it. Takes a large swallow of beer that empties half of the bottle in one go. Tries again. ]
You're telling me angels are real.
[ ....Yeah, that's the part he's stumbling over here. ]
no subject
hoo boy. ]
Angels. Heaven. The guy upstairs.
Yeah. It's all real. [ he doesn't sound very uplifted by the fact tbh ]
no subject
[ He actually sounds a little pissed about this. ]
What the hell've they been doin' all this time?!
no subject
[He looks over at Dean, giving him a quick nod, here to back him up in any way he can, before he looks back at Bobby.]
There's also not just one devil. There's nine, with Lucifer himself all the way down at the bottom.

[ Rose breaking her silence with that bitter remark and it's like a mask slips into place at that. Her hatred and resentment helping her to keep it together and her hand turns beneath Dean's to grasp his as she twists around to take her place at his side. Still wanting that contact, as much for him as for herself... especially with what she has to say now. ]
The woman with the other Sam tonight is Lucifer's consort. The Queen of Hell. [ Though Bobby could have probably guessed by the things that were said this evening, that there was a time when Dean's new wife used to just call her, her Best Friend. ]

Her arms tighten across her abdomen, chin sinking to her chest as she breathes deeply, unwilling to stop listening to their story. She had wanted to know, after all, had been so curious about all of this.]
no subject
[ Yeah, he still sounds pretty pissed about that, but it's not directed at anyone in the room. Huffing out another exasperated breath, he lets them spill the rest of it and turns somber again when Rose speaks up. Turning to study her for a moment, this makes the other half of the puzzle click into place about tonight. ]
So. Someone you've also got a lot of history with, then? Queen of Hell is.... a hell of a job.
no subject
She glances at Bobby at that question, tension radiating through her body as just the thought of having to talk about Elena is enough to make her want to fly into a rage. ]
You could say that. [ Her words full of steel, though none of it aimed at the relative stranger. ] She was my best friend... before -
[ In the end she just shakes her head because there is just too much history there for Rose to begin to unravel it and she can't. She can't after whats happened tonight. ]
Her and another - [ Friend? Was he ever that in the first place? He was with Azrael before they ever met and he had to know who Dean was when he'd wormed his way into her life. ]
Des. He was a member of our team. [ Rose nodding to Alainn as she keeps watch through the eyes of her familiar. ] Another Fiend shacked up with the Lord of the Eighth, Azrael.

[ the 'yeah right' is there, in his flat as a pancake tone ]

[He seems reluctant to mention something else, before deciding he should just come out with it because it's going to have to come up sooner or later.]
I mentioned Glasya back there, too. She tracked me down in Chicago when I went there looking for the same answers you were probably trying to find while you were looking for us. Turned out she was Lucifer's daughter and she played me like a fiddle for years.
no subject
So we've got Lucifer and his daughter Glasya. We've got another Sam who's now his minion and this Elena, who's now Queen of Hell and his consort. He's been a busy Devil, looks like. And then there's the Devil above him, Azrael, and his Fiend, Des.
Does that about cover the major players here or did I forget someone?
no subject
There've been others, but not that have come around in years. [ also dean glances over at sam pointedly on his description of glasya but is ... not going to say anything else for now ]
no subject
There's the Mind Master. She's more, Hell adjacent. A Demon wrapped up with Blade and all his crap. That's supposedly why they're still hanging around. Claiming they need to do some ritual to take her out but... I call bullshit.
[ Her eyes darken once more, her hold on Dean's hand tightening as the barely there control she's been keeping on her emotions slips. (Will Save Crit Fail)]
The only thing any of them ever do is lie.
[ And while it's not quite as intense as it had been before? There's that same surge of light that goes through her body but Rose is too busy glaring at a fixed point on the opposite wall to even register what she's doing. ]
no subject
Rose...you do realize you're glowing right now, right? [He looks over at Dean, confused.] Is that new? I feel like that's new.
[Or is this one of those things they haven't gotten around to tell him yet.]
no subject
Oh, goo. I'm not the only one confused about that, then. I take it you don't always do that? I mean, it's pretty and all... But you make a hell of a nightlight.
