[Earlier in the week all DRAKENET devices received a message announcing Francesca's birthday party, courtesy of Sir Bancroft, to be held the evening of July 11. No RSVP needed. It's especially good timing now that many mission groups have returned to the castle, at least for the time being.

As the guests make their way in, it's clear the party's been well stocked with food and drink. There's plenty of room for mingling and some music in the background. Gifts are completely optional, but welcome. Come in and get comfortable.]

[O-oh... Myri glances down at his hand holding hers, and her fingers flex, laced between his. It feels strange, but nice. She won't admit it, but she's never held hands with a boy before. She's never stayed in one place long enough for anyone to think of her that way.]

Grow you a new arm? [She says with a burst of laughter.] I'm afraid even magic has its limits. Let's just continue keeping your limbs firmly attached. It's worked out quite well so far.

[she should probably get used to it, because he's a handholder. it's kind of his thing. he squeezes her hand gently.]

It was worth asking. Anyway, my arm was in no danger from Wynn to begin with. The meeting went much smoother than anticipated.

[She'll get used to it eventually. For now, she's just trying to get used to the warmth in her cheeks that is constant whenever he's around.]

Oh? I'm so happy to hear that. Buffy and I were worried. Though... since we weren't able to bring Jade back, he may be further displeased with us.

What happened?[not that he knows much about the whole jade situation but he ... might as well get filled in now. as an excuse to listen to myri talk.]

She didn't remember him at all. Rafael. It was heartbreaking to watch. [Her gaze moves to the floor for a minute, because she really did hate that part the most.] We offered to bring her here, to try to help her remember, but she... [She looks up at him again] She declined. We couldn't force her. So we left.

[he sombers up a little, because that is some depressing stuff. he'd actually did some google searching on memory recovery spells after breaching the subject with buffy, but he still doesn't have any information that would be particularly useful at this moment.] And Rafael just ... returned home?

[witchwoman]

He said he would try to help her remember. I... I'm not sure if that means he plans to stay nearby. After everything, I felt it wasn't my place to ask what he planned to do. I only wished that we hadn't put him through that at all.

[This is totally party friendly conversation.]

Before we left Italy, Sir Kat mentioned promoting me to Knighthood. I'm not so certain I deserve it after the way Chicago went.

[And this is the first time she's admitted that out loud.]

What makes you say that? I think you've done more than enough to be deserving.

[She just shakes her head, looking down and away.]

We could not convince her to come. And more than that, the pain we put Rafael through... [Her voice cracks.] He loves her. The look on his face when she-

[he uses the hand he was holding to pull her in close and hold her against him. he's a romantic, so the story strikes a bit of a chord with him. but myri's feelings are what break him, really.]

That's out of your control. What they do is out of your control.

[Myri steps into his embrace, taking a few deep breaths and trying to calm herself. This isn't the time or place to have a meltdown, after all. Being near Finnick helps, as do his words of encouragement.]

I wanted to help him. All I wanted to do was help. [She says in a hushed voice. After a moment, she pulls away enough to look up at him.] I'm sorry. I shouldn't- This wasn't what I planned on talking about at all.

It's all right. [he looks back down at her, his voice is calm and quiet.] Sometimes getting it all out helps. Maybe it's not too late, hm?

[witchwoman]

Perhaps. [She says before the rest comes out in a tumble of hushed words.] I think everything's just happened all at once. Wynn calling us back, telling us we weren't doing enough. Then failing in Chicago and letting a good man down. It's hard not to wonder if...

[She stops herself before she can finish, because what she wants to say is 'if I belong here at all' but she can't. Because this is the only place she's ever felt she truly does belong, so to admit out loud that she might doubt that? It's too difficult.]

No. [She shakes her head and brings a hand up to wipe the tears from her face.] I won't ruin everything with this foolishness. Tonight is no place for reminiscing or regrets. There will be all the time in the world for it tomorrow. [She takes a shaky breath to calm herself, pushing a weak smile to the surface of her expression. This is who she has been for years- always tucking the bad things away. There was good to be celebrated, and she'd rather live in that moment.]

Dance with me. Help me forget the troubles.

Couldn't have said it better myself. [and he means it. he would do the same, really. and has. does. act like it's all okay around other people, save the crying and moping for when no one else is looking. finnick odair can't be anything less than perfect. a living legend. it's shaping up to not be much different here.]

Gladly. [he rearranges his arm to be around her waist, and tries to dance. and with an abysmal dexterity check of 8, i really do mean tries. there's a lot on his mind, okay. and myri makes him feel jittery inside like a high schooler boy. as he accidentally steps on her foot (again), he chuckles a little and tries to stay good-natured about it.]

I don't know what's wrong with me tonight.

[witchwoman]

[This two are kinda moronic for each other, because Myri's dex check of 6 total means she is doing Finnick no favors by trying to help him. She trips, stumbling against his chest and probably causing them both to fall back a few steps.]

Whatever it is... [She says, blushing deeply] It seems I've caught it. [She stops and stands perfectly still, looking up at him and trying not to laugh.] Do we dare to try again?

Do you think it's safe?

[after asking, he does try again ... and gets a natural 20 seriously what the fuck. oh well. i guess he was just warming up before and now he can properly ~dazzle~ her. just like edward cullen.]

With you? I can never be sure. [But oh... those moves. She follows his lead, and things go much smoother this time!]

Hmm... so far, so good.

All that practicing is finally paying off. Now my voice just needs to follow suit. [so humble, this one.]

Careful, or I'll demand a song next. And from what I remember, your voice was perfectly fine.

I think I can wait to serenade you another time. Wouldn't want the rest of the party getting jealous.

Oh, no... We can't have that.

[She laughs for a few moments more.]

You're still pretending to be a musician, aren't you? How's that been?

It's been going well. I might just be a little bit famous, actually.

Are you really? Well I've only been to one concert, but I hope I do get to see yours.

I'll make sure you get a front row seat.

You may want to rethink that. [She chuckles.] The last concert I went to, I climbed up on stage and nearly ruined everything.
