Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Spike's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Hide members - the largest sect in the castle, with the most representatives here, and Lan, Wynn, and Dovan wait up at the front of the room for Spike to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides. 

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Spike."

[She deflates a little, but shrugs.]

I think I'm going to go see how the others are doing.

[And if they want badges, maybe]

[slay]

[ buffy gives her hand a squeeze but lets her go, then turns her attention to spike. ]

See? You bullied her off. Way to go. [ she reaches out to punch him in the arm. ]

[bigbad]

I didn't mean to! [He looks after her, frowning, then down to Buffy.] ...I'll need a badge to make this up to her, won't I?

[slay]

[ she smiles at that, reaching up to straighten his jacket's lapels, considering. ]

We'll find you something.

[bigbad]

[He smiles back at her for a moment, then looks after Myri again.] Should I go after her? To apologise or something?

[slay]

Nah. Give her time. [ she drops her hands. ] But maybe ask her to make you a merit badge before we leave. [ beat. ] I mean. Before everyone leaves, not that we're -- leaving. Together. Because we're not. Obviously.

[bigbad]

[...yeah, Buffy didn't need to clear that up. Spike gives her a slightly bewildered look, but lets it pass.]

...right. Not that we couldn't leave together. We are friends. Nothing wrong with... leaving places.

[slay]

Right. Obviously. I mean, leaving doesn't always have to necessarily mean leaving together. Friends do lots of leaving. Which we are. Friends. [ beat. she shoves the popcorn out to offer it to him. ] Popcorn?

[bigbad]

[Thank god, something else to talk about. He grabs another handful of the popcorn and starts munching away.]

Maybe next knighting ceremony you should bring a quieter snack. I could hear you crunching the entire time.

[slay]

Only because you're superhearing guy. No one else even noticed, I bet.

[bigbad]

I'll bet everyone noticed. Wynn looked extra disapproving, too.

[slay]

You're such a liar. [ she's smiling despite her scornful dismissal. ]

[bigbad]

Least you saved me some. [He snags another handful and grins as he eats it.] Just wait. For your ceremony, I'm bringing nachos.

[slay]

You're gonna be waiting a long time for nachos. And for revenge. You're really gonna stew that long?

[bigbad]

Absolutely. [He ducks his head a little, offering her a smile.] And I don't think it'll be as long as you think. Bet you anything Sir Whatshisface knights you on the spot next time you see him.

[slay]

Sir Chessing. And, he'll knight me when I'm ready. It's for him to decide, not us.

[bigbad]

He'll decide you're ready as soon as he sees you. I'm certain of it. [His lips quirk into a smile.] We both know you're better than me, Sir Buffy.

[slay]

Spike, I don't really want to -- [ talk about this. at all. ever. it's uncomfortable, bordering on upsetting, and more importantly neither of those things belong as his knighting ceremony. ] Let's just talk about something else.

[bigbad]

[He hesitates, then nods, glancing away.] Yeah, all right. Sorry.

[slay]

So, what's the big promotion mean for you, anyway? Is it like ... more responsibility? Having to ... give guidance, and file taxes? Or bigger bedroom, or what?

[bigbad]

Mostly that I don't have to deal with Lan anymore.

[slay]

And here I was hoping it'd mean you had to wear the plate armor around on all our missions.

[bigbad]

[He scoffs.] Yeah, that'd turn out well.

[slay]

It's not like you stand a chance of blending in to begin with, with that hair.

[bigbad]

Least the hair doesn't make it impossible for me to move.
