The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

It's a stake, made entirely of silver. If my fragmented memory is correct, then it has been enchanted with several different elements, magic from my world. It gave the weapon the ability to kill the undead creatures my kind fought there.

[He pauses, as if trying to recall that was harder than it should have been.]

My kind are not magically inclined, so I can't be sure if the enchantments carried over, or if magic from my world is even compatible here.

Are undead particularly sensitive to elemental magicks, in your world? What about holy power?

A Strigoi can only be killed in one of two ways; complete immolation, or a silver stake enchanted with the four elements. Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. There is also a fifth element, Spirit, with special properties. A stake enchanted with all five has the ability to bring the Strigoi back to life.

[Strange, that he has the facts, but none of the memories associated with them.]

I take it that means you don't have any clerics in your world. Those who channel the divine.

The divine? [He shakes his head.] No, I cannot say that we do. Not that I'm aware of, anyway.

They'd probably throw a fit if they heard there were those who could heal or resurrect anything without it. It's the most important distinction between arcane magic and what they do. "Only the gods have the power to heal" - that's sort of their credo.

Ah, I see.

This kind of magic is incredibly rare in my world, from what I remember, and thus not very documented. It's a hard element to teach when almost no one uses it, or falls victim to insanity because of it.

Insanity? So it's proven to be detrimental to the mind?

Yes. Its use causes depression and varying thoughts of violence, self-harm and even suicide.

I'd be curious whether to know if it's an actual chemical imbalance or a magical side effect.

[This is where the knowledge of his guardian training starts to blur with memories and people he no longer remembers, and he seems to falter.]

I think it might be a bit of both. I think I recall...medication being an available treatment. Like a anti-depressant, though it blocked the magic as well as the depression.

[He shook his head as if a bit confused.]

Don't try to force it. That's the quickest way to lose what memories you might have.

[He nods slowly, focusing on something else. Like forming a response.]

It does feel like that sometimes.

I've heard plenty of reports that it's like that. I wouldn't know, firsthand.

How many are there like myself?

Displaced from your home world? Thousands. It's been happening for thousands of years, after all.

Displaced from your specific world? That's a more interesting question. This phenomena of arrivals from somewhere other than Faerun only started in the last year or so, from what we've been able to document. It's hard to estimate how widespread it is.

There must be a reason for it, though I can't begin to imagine what it could be.

Well, the long held theory has been that the walls between Faerun's dimension and ours were particularly weak. Maybe it's a chain effect, increasing exponentially. Which means theoretically, some day those walls could crumble altogether.

So you think that it's affecting other dimensions too, spreading as it goes?

[Crumbling sounds bad.]

As in there would be nothing to stop even more from crossing back and forth? Or would the two places become one?

[The idea of other dimensions is still rather new for him.]

Some people believe the latter is possible.

And what do you believe?

[lissatrinall]

Personally, I think the impact would destroy both worlds. But I also find it highly unlikely. The tides come and go, but they don't seem to increase in length of time or expulsion of beings from beyond the Veil.

Unlikely but not impossible. Still a thing to keep an eye on, I'm sure.
