The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

About once a month or so, for squiring ceremonies if we have new people coming in. And sometimes, if you're out on a mission or something, you'll miss them.

[A dry chuckle passing her lips, eyes scanning the crowd.]

So are you one of the ones who came through that veil they talk about or did you grow up here?

[She grins in understanding. Elena likes parties just fine, but she finds the other girl's reaction to them funny.]

I came through the veil almost five months ago, I think, but I'm not the shadowkind they're used to around here. My world is actually a lot like this one. From what I can remember anyway.

Veilnesia. [Yep she was proud of that term.] I can relate. My world's not much different either.

[Much being a relative term anyway.]

Same places as far as I can tell. No Knights though. I thought you only ever saw them in movies or whatever.

[She chuckles.]

Veilnesia. I like it.

[Because that's exactly it.]

Yeah, no knights in mine either. Vampires, werewolves, witches, sure. But no knights. We probably could have used some.

Vampires? [Not the surprise some might expect.] Yeah we got those too. We call them Strigoi though. At least the undead ones. The living ones are Moroi.

[Yeah the idea that living Vampires seems weird to some people just doesn't occur to Rose.]

I didn't realize there could be...living ones.

[Insert confused face here.]

Yep. Well where I'm from anyway. They age and die but still need blood to survive and the sun weakens them rather than turns them into a walking fireball. Among other things.

[All very casual, like these are just the things that are okay to talk about with a human. Apparently the need for secrecy went with the veil.]

Wait so... what are they like where you're from?

They need blood to survive, animal or human, though the latter is what let's them use their abilities effectively. Burn in the sun unless they have special jewelry. Hurt by...vervain, I think it's called. [She looks like she's thinking really hard.] But I don't think they're evil unless they want to be. But it's hard, when everyone is basically a walking snack.

A lot of them shut their humanity off to deal with things. They can just turn it off, like flipping a light switch.

But no, they don't age. Or die. Under normal circumstances anyway.

[Rose's upper lip pulled into a sneer, her brow furrowed.]

Sound a hell of a lot like Strigoi... If Strigoi would ever cuddle bunnies rather than use them for snackboxes I mean.

[More complicated of course, more differences but it was closer at least.]

Your Vampires don't do magic I assume?

They're still who they used to be, just...their emotions are amplified. They choose how they live, whether they want to be a monster or not.

[She looks a little confused and shakes her head.]

No, I don't think so.

Weird. [She shook her head.] Lines aren't so blurry where I'm from. If they have red eyes and drink blood? Then I kill them. [Brow furrowed.] Or I used to.

Not sure how all that's going to work now I'm part of all - [She waves her hand around.] - This.

I know that I was...on good terms with at least a few of them, but I don't really remember.

[Veilnesia.]

Maybe it's better that way though.

[She smiles.]

I'm sure they'll find a way to use your talents. Maybe you'll go after all kinds of nasties instead of just the blood-drinking kind. You should have seen the things I ran into during my last mission.

Oh no, there's plenty of the blood drinking kind.

[Maybe she should she not mention she's been doing that here... The killing of the Vampires thing.]

There just seems to be a whole lot of other crap too. Shadowkind or whatever.

[But now Elena you have her attention because you're talking about the good stuff she's been dying to get to.]

Wait... you've been on a Mission? What was that like?

Most of the bad things that we've been fighting here? They're from here, not elsewhere.

[Or so she thinks, based on her relatively short list of experiences.]

More like I fell through the Veil during one, and Finnick had to save me from drowning. [...in two feet of water. In her defense, she'd been out of oxygen even before the veil part of that equation.] So I stuck with them. It was weeks before we ever got back here.

[She tries to think of a way to explain.]

It's a lot of adapting to the situation. There was a lot we had to do there. Diversions, computer hacking, sneaking. And fighting, though that's not exactly my...strong suit.

[Elena has managed to capture Rose's complete attention, the Dhampir's face registering a myriad of reactions as she kept up, before finally settling on something akin to mild amusement.]

Heh... Actually that sounds a lot like my strong suit... [She frowns.] Except for the computers... I'm more of an action kind of person. You know like, hitting, things. [She shrugs.] My computer expertise maxes out with email.

I only know the basics too. They group together people will plenty of different skills. On mine, Kat handled the computers. [She laughs, though.] If you want to practice hitting things, you should talk to Sir Buffy. She's...a lot like you in that respect. And I mean that in the best way.

[She saw her grapple a giant zombie tentacle creature. Yep.]
