[Lila's turn to bitchface, they can match.] So did I. I was just applying the previous topic to the current one, but whatever. [The "Stupid" she wants to tack on to the end of that is grossly implied.

She turns back to set the gun down because, yeah, she's been holding it this entire time, and if this is going to take a while she wants to be comfortable.]

Could we do this some place more comfortable, like any place with chairs or some place I can lay down?

So were you looking for some history of the Knights, first?

Yes. Like, who started it. And who was the first leader, with the sword.

Some ancestor of Wynn's, I guess. It's always been 'in the family', so to speak. It began in Ireland, the brainchild of some monks, of all things, but they were most likely much more than that. People didn't used to understand Shadowkind - what they were, where they came from, so it's more likely they were using the monastery to protect themselves from the world.

That was over a thousand years ago. If you believe some of the rumors, those Knights actually knew King Arthur, and Camelot was a real place. Some of them were apparently ex-members of the court there.

You can probably guess what the rumors say about the sword, thanks to that.

Wynn's the Lady in the Lake, yep, got that. You know, change a few key phrases around and set it in the 1920s and you've pretty much got the history of my family.

Your family were monks?

[bittersweeter]

[Snort.] They were non-violent. That was one of the key phrases to be changed.

[sirstickuphisass]

So they banded together because of their... dream powers?

[bittersweeter]

No. Besides that I already said not everyone is a dream worker, thanks for listening, they banded together because liqueur wasn't the only thing Prohibition outlawed. Workers were shoved into labor camps and that is when the families started. Workers had to look out for each other, protect each other, fuck everyone else. My great-grandfather worked in the kitchens, he made sure everyone got enough food to eat, no matter what he had to do to get it. When alcohol was legalized, work wasn't, but at least the camps got broken down. The families just stuck around.

[ he does, to his credit, actually look a little chagrined when she chastises him ] Sorry. Understanding magic... was never really my strong suit.

But it sounds like a tough time. Not that different from what I've seen out there in some parts of the world.

Don't think of it like magic. I'm left-handed, that doesn't mean my parents are both left-handed. Some are more dominant than others, like people with brown eyes as opposed to blue. Is that easier?

Anyway, it's not that bad anymore. [Says the girl who probably has her own wanted poster.] Workers have protection if they want it, the registration act bombed.

And here, as far as I know, we don't have workers at all. So you shouldn't wind up specifically persecuted.

Only non-specifically? [Successfully made her laugh, ten points for Eric.] Super.

I guess. [She nudges her chin against the pillow she's holding, kneading it down until she's comfy.] The idea of knights seems a little antiquated now, what exactly do they do?

[sirstickuphisass]

Well, considering that the Shadow World itself is pretty antiquated, I think the idea is to bridge the gap between the two and figure out what both worlds hold in common. The idea of what's honorable, what's worth fighting for, couched in terms people from that world will understand, and one people of this world will too, albeit nostalgically.

[bittersweeter]

Okay, it makes sense. It just seems kind of old-fashioned. Although, gender neutral, which is nice.
