after-party ♔ may

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (brazil & nevada groups will be returned! if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || May 1st, 2013, 6:00PM
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

That's as good a reason as any.

[If a little counterproductive, but since when had Alaric ever needed a reason to drink before now? Helpful hint: The answer is never. Which is why his glass is empty again about a second later.]

I figure free booze is the least they can do after we more or less signed our lives away.

True enough, but the way I reckon it - I wasn't much living before all this nonsense anyway.

Now I'm here, surrounded by good friends [He nudges Alaric], gorgeous women [He gestures about the room], and all the ale I can drink [He drains his glass in one gulp, with a refreshed 'Aaah'].

What more can a man ask for? We've even got access to the library and that drakenet search engine... I've still so much research to do about this world - but I've got to make time for these parties, you know?
[He says with a grin, as he grabs another drink]

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-12 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[It wasn't the snark that came with his usual drinking company, that was for sure. It still beat sitting there drinking alone though.

Alaric just watches this guy--Phineas (and he thought his own name was bad), with mild amusement. Far be it from him to tell anyone to "slow down," but--]

You'll have plenty of opportunities. From what I've heard, they do this whole song and dance every month.

Oh, and don't I know it! Second one for me - and the only thing I've cared enough about to make note of in my calendar.

So what's your story? You here for the drink? The women? The adventure? ...Or, just adrift, waiting for life to happen, eh?

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-13 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
A man with priorities. [Not that he's judging. Much.]

If you mean here as in this side of the veil, I didn't really have much of a choice. If you mean here as in at this bar, then I'm gonna go with the drinks.

[Which wasn't ... technically a lie. He was here for one woman in particular, but at the moment his priority seemed to be the liquor.]

What about you? It sounds like your life before all this wasn't exactly going the way you'd hoped.

[And he might be probing, because so far he hasn't met anyone else who could remember details of their life prior to winding up here.]
thesleeper: (intent)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-13 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well... I've met very few people who could claim their life was going exactly as they'd hoped...

[He takes another drink, swirling his icecubes about, then continues in a more serious tone]

My... father... that man wanted me to be a priest. I took more after my grandfather's craft - magics and the like. After a while I left, to study in my family's ancient holdings. When next we met, it was from opposite ends of crossed blades...

[He pauses and takes another drink, then breaks back into smiles]

So, I suppose you can say it wasn't going exactly per anyone's intentions, eh? But, now the pawn has been placed on a clean board.

[He says glibly, seeming to have little care in the notion of considering himself a 'pawn']

Best not to dwell on any of that. New beginnings and all, eh? I intend to thoroughly enjoy this stab at life. What about yourself?

[Alaric doesn't have a lot to say in response to Phineas' story. He listens, and is sort of surprised by the fact that it's being unloaded onto a stranger.]

It's ... sort of complicated. I guess we'll find out one way or another. [Which was probably a lot more polite than mind your own goddamn business, at least.]

I think you're the first person I've met here that's able to remember anything more than vague details of their lives from before. [Which was sort of comforting in a way. It meant Ric wasn't the only one who got stuck remembering parts of their life before passing through the veil.]
thesleeper: (Default)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-14 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, there's plenty of bits missing. I'd wager if my family life weren't so intertwined in my craft, I'd have forgotten all that as well... Rather I had, honestly... but I can't be bothered to give a damn about any of that now. It's all behind me, irrevocably...

[He pauses, sips from his drink, then muses:] That's why I don't much mind telling the story, you know? I intend to make good use of this new beginning. It's a bit more like I'm... recounting the story of some old acquaintance, rather than my own... And I intend to keep it that way.

[His grin seems to mask some sadness for a moment, before he lifts his glass to his face again]

So, what's a man like you do for fun? Apart from overdress for parties?

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-14 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[It made sense. Alaric had to give the guy credit for being able to make the best of a situation, even if that smile was a little more telling than Phineas had probably intended. He'll do him the favor of not dwelling on the subject, or attempting to pry any further than he already had.]

This is pretty much the extent of it.

[He lifts his newest glass of booze to indicate he means the alcohol and not the hideous train wreck of an outfit that he's wearing.]

I'm not sure most people would categorize a marathon of history channel documentaries as "fun." [Unless they were him. Sadly, he's actually being serious.

There's a brief pause while he appears to consider something.]

They have that here, right?
thesleeper: (laugh)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-14 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Do they EVER!

[Phineas' eyes widen!]

I've spent the better part of the week following a series about ancient megalith structures here - and the whole time I couldn't help but wonder how many were actually made here, and how many may have been pulled through the veil!

It's fascinating, really. I can't wait to take a detour after a mission to visit some! Who knows what otherworldly magics might lay inside, hidden in plain sight? Waiting for me to uncover them!

[Wow. It's either the liquor (Fort save of 7... maybe you should slow down there buddy...) or genuine interest - but history talk got Phineas extremely excited - so he decides to plop down in the nearest seat... Reflex of 4. My dice have an extreme aversion to online RP. Phineas completely misses the chair - which is fortunate really, because it already had an occupant, and crashes through a table onto the floor... AFter a moment, he springs up and attempts to play if off with a bluff of 26 (Good at one thing, and one thing only.)]

Woo! Did you feel that aftershock? Lost my balance there for a tick.

[Smooth, guy.]

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-16 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Really, bro? Because Alaric's sense motive check (nat 20) says you're full of shit. He ain't drunk enough to buy any of what you're selling, sorry. Instead, he will just look at you like you are on straight up crack for a few seconds, before finishing off his drink and gesturing for two more.]

Don't worry. I don't think anyone noticed.

[Except for that girl you tried to sit on. And everyone in the immediate vicinity who heard the crash as you practically nosedived through a table somehow. And probably Wynn because that guy looked like he made it his business to know everything that happened under his roof. So, good job.

But luckily Ric isn't the type of friend to cut anyone off. Which is why he holds out the second of the two drinks he just snagged so Phineas can begin the process of forgetting that whole scenario ever even happened.]
thesleeper: (YEAH!)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-18 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Noticed what? [He says with a grin, as he lifts the drink]

Where were we... oh, right - History Channel! This world has some interesting history... but I would much rather be at the site searching for artifacts, than here watching it on one of these strange 'televisions' they've got.

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ric can't help but assume based on the obvious archeology boner, and talk of magic earlier.]

You're into magical artifacts? [Said as he fingers the gaudy as fuck ring he's wearing. You probably don't even need a spot check to notice that thing tbh.]

Are you a witch? Er--magic user. [Because apparently that was a lot more commonplace here.]
thesleeper: (think)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
...I prefer magic-user, but yes. I've always found ancient ruins to be amazing sources for lost lore, at the very least - but if you're lucky enough to pluck out an artifact or two, then the expeditions are extremely worthwhile.

Fortunately, I usually find some useful bit of information that helps fortify my magical capabilities - so even if all that's left is some scribblings on a wall and a book or two, it can be a wealth of treasure to me.

What about you, Alaric? Any magical aptitude about you?

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-21 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
None whatsoever.

[Not counting the ring--but even then, that was something that had been spelled long before it came into his posession.]

No, my interest in ancient knowledge is based solely on the fact that I'm a huge history nerd at heart.

[Cheers.]
thesleeper: (smile)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-21 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'll drink to that any day!

My magic is almost entirely based on knowledge of history - old secrets and symbols and the like.

My family had a vault in their ancient land that was overflowing with historic texts and old tomes, spent the better part of my life locked up in there researching, learning... [He takes a drink]

I daresay that's the one thing I'm going to miss from that place.

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-23 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Luckily for me, the history here and the history where I'm from aren't all that different.

[Which makes it infinitely easier to catch up on.]

What about you? It sounds like magic was a pretty common thing where you came from.
thesleeper: (think)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-23 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Magic on Faerun is as abundant as drinks are here. [He raises his glass at this statement, and drinks deeply]

And just as varied. There are many unique and strange magics, lost magic, ancient 'high magic.'

It's going to take a bit to get used to how mundane most things are in this place, honestly.

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-24 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[That would probably fall under what he know as white people problems, Phineas.]

Sounds like the exact opposite of what I'm experiencing. The only real differences from this world and mine are the non-human races, some of the deities, and the magic.

[Wow, Ric. Might want to knock on some wood there.]

As far as I can tell, anyway.
thesleeper: (surprise)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-24 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That must be nice... I'm sure as a scholar, of sorts, you must understand how unnerving it is to suddenly know nothing of the history of the world.

I'm no... philosopher or historian... but it bothers me to feel so... alien in this place.
I fear I'll spend much of my free time in the coming months just studying...

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-25 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it.

[Not that it ... bothered him quite as much. Alaric kind of had a boner for that sort of thing, and the idea of learning about all of the differences this world had to offer did have its appeal.

At the same time he'd much rather be back where the world was only semi-crazy and he could at least pretend to manage his sad life. Plus, you know, Elena actually remembered him back home.]

You've been here, what, a few months now?
thesleeper: (laugh)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-25 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Phineas laughs a little.]

I wish... Hopefully I'll be more settled after a few months; but no, I've only just been here since last month.

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-26 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
You seem pretty comfortable with things already. [If the happy-go-lucky, nosediving through a table personality was any indication.]

You had me fooled, at least. [Which isn't saying much lbr. You're drunk, Ric, go home.]
thesleeper: (YEAH!)

[personal profile] thesleeper 2013-05-27 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Drunkenness abounds! Phineas grabs another drink off a passing tray while finishing his. He isn't sure, but he could swear the waitress shakes her head and mutters something about avoiding this part of the room...]

Well, way I figure it, not much sense in worrying about things beyond my control.

At least I've got access to the library and computers for study, and more importantly all the liquor I can drink. I'll work this place out at my own pace, it's been enjoyable enough so far.

[personal profile] ex_ric243 2013-05-27 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Even Ric is having a hard time keeping up at this point. He's not sure whether that makes him impressed or concerned by Phineas' superhuman liver.]

Just the same, I think we're both going to end up regretting this in the morning. [All the liquor you can drink didn't necessarily mean that they should try to drink it all in one sitting.]
