[ Today's the fourth of July, and the city is bustling with happy, smiling citizens on their way to watch fireworks tonight with their loved ones. And then there's the Corvette of people sailing through traffic with almost desperate abandon, as Des steers his way through the city with a basically heartwrenching nat 20 drive check towards the hospital. Rafael lets Violet sit on his lap in the passenger bucket seat, but he doesn't say a word as he stares forward grimly, lost inside his thoughts entirely the whole way there.

They make startling time. There's another car of Knights on the way, but lagging quite a bit behind by the time Des pulls into a spot right up front. ]

[finnick didn't feel extraordinarily doubtful either (sense motive 14), so.] Do you think there's a way to make them come to us? We could probably get Keijen, anyway. Dumage has been spending all her time with him.

There might be. And we've gotta draw Chad out sometime. Trying to lure one of the lackeys out might bring the big fish right to us. [He shovels more food into his mouth.

A beat, since he's missed the important part of the conversation.] Wait. She who?

[Keeping track of who knows what just makes Myri's head hurt. THIS IS WHY EVERYONE SHOULD JUST TELL EVERYONE ELSE THEIR SHIT.]

Violet. She's like Jade. A daughter of... [She glances around, suddenly uncertain if she should be talking about this out in the open.] They're after her now.

I'm sorry I walked away from the conversation. I'm just making sure we're on the same page. [SHUT UP, FINNICK. HE HAS A LOT OF INNER TURMOIL. And macaroni. He forgets things.]

Anyway, if Violet wants to do this, then I say we let her.

[Myri just sort of stares with mouth agape for a moment, because R U SRS, DESCANT???]

Let her?! [She jumps slightly, as if she's going to stand or... lunge across the tale, but she keeps herself seated. Her voice, however raises.] She wants to go after them on her own. [And where once Myri might have gone mama bear and tried to be intimidating, she is just shaking and trying not to fall apart at the idea of letting those monsters have Violet.]

[he fixes des with his dead-eyed stare of disapproval that's been seeing exponentially more usage over the last day-ish.]

It's not about letting her, it's about letting her go on her own.

[i like to imagine finnick and myri scolded him at the same time so they could emphasize "on her own" at the same time...]

[Des looks between the two of them. He looks like a chipmunk with his mouth full of food like that. Also y'all are becoming one of Those Couples. After a second, he swallows.] Look, the girl wants to go and she wants to do it alone. If you insist on being her entourage, she'll sneak out and do it herself, anyway, and it'll probably blow Dumage's cover and screw us all over. If you give her the okay and then follow her, then she'll have back-up and maybe someone can nab Blade before he nabs her.

[witchwoman]

[She settles down slightly, because... well, that makes some sense, but she hates the idea of more secrets.]

[annnnd finnick is swayed back to the side of team pragmatism. he shrugs.]

Point taken.

[nothingsodivine]

[He shrugs] It's ugly, but you can't stop someone from doing whatever the hell they want. [He points at himself.] Case in point.

[witchwoman]

[She shakes her head, but she's not fighting them hard.]

I don't like it. But... if we did this, we'd need to talk to the others.

Don't you think she would catch on to what was happening if enough of them knew?

It's simple. Get everyone to rally their support behind Vi, tell her you're sending word to Dumage so she can look after her, let her think she's getting what she wants and then just... follow her. She won't suspect a thing, because she'll think it's her own personal mission to lure Blade right to us. It's dishonest and sneaky, but she'll thank you when she's not dead.

[witchwoman]

No. [Her voice is quiet, as if she's still not certain of how firm she is only the subject.] We can't just... lie to her. There has to be another way.

It's for her own good. I'd love to entertain a better idea, but I think this is the best one we have right now.

[nothingsodivine]

[Des goes back to his food.] Don't look at me. I don't even go here. I'm just the advice guy.

[witchwoman]

[She frowns because Des is just as involved as any of them, as far as she's concerned. But if he's going to go back to his food, then she's just going to turn towards Finnick.]

You can't possibly know what's for her own good... none of us can. We have no idea what these people are capable of. If they have even one second alone with her, we may lose her for all we know.

[I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NOW THAT YOU'RE THE IMPETUS FOR A LOVER'S SPAT, DES.]

Think about it. She's not afraid to lie to us. She'd probably find a way to go behind everyone's back and do it on her own, anyway. If we at least act like we're not breathing down her neck while she does this, it's less likely she'll go out of her way to do something that could cause more harm than good. And she wouldn't have a second alone, because we'd still be there. Just standing back.

[IF HE CAN'T HAVE TRUE LOVE.

NO ONE CAN.

And also this macaroni is delicious. Damn. You two kids have fun.]

And what if we lose her? You can't know for certain that we'd be able to follow her without losing the trail. What if the need to be secretive costs us so much more dearly?

And you can't know for certain that we'd be more of a help than a hindrance. Both sides have advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I think it's easier to come out of hiding once needed than go into it after your presence is already known.

[ oh hey, your teammates finally found you guys :3 kat leads the charge, with buffy and spike all but dragging rafael along with them. he looks... well. i don't think any amount of macaroni is going to help matters in his case atm. ]

Hey guys. Violet's upstairs dealing with the whole... Burt thing, but we can go without her. Not really much reason to hang around here all night. [ /significant looks, as in please-help-us-get-this-italian-out-of-here ]

[ since ... jade just died in it. i'm glad buffy could repeat her bad hospital experience and have an aversion to them ... again. ]

[She opens her mouth to respond to Finnick, frustration growing within her, but- oh hey there's Kat and the others.]

...Violet's staying? By herself?

[Her face pales in fear of leaving her alone, of giving her the chance to run without any of them around to stop her.]
