The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Her first encounter has left her smile a bit dimmer, and her stomach a bit more nervous than it had been when she’d originally arrived – but she’s hopeful that the uncomfortable portion of the evening has gone by. Or well, it’s gone to the other side of the ballroom, at least.]

Really? [Beatific smile time; the man standing next to her looks like he belongs in some sort of romance novel -- something involving swashbuckling or medieval knights. That makes her laugh, considering where she’s standing. And honestly, she’s just relieved that someone seems happy to see her.] I mean, yes. Thank you very much.

[Spot check of 11 means he’ll be able to see the way she’s blushing when she puts her hand over his – she isn’t very good at hiding it.]

[Thoster can spot a blush on a lady's cheek from a mile away (spot 22), but all it does it make her more endearing to him, old man that he is. He bows his head to her and starts their walk through the ballroom.]

Introductions are in order, I think. Sir Thoster Chatwyn, at your service. And you, dear lass, are the picture of loveliness.

[The ease with which Thoster carries himself is – unsurprisingly – contagious, and though he’s laying it on a bit thick, Diana finds herself amused by his show of chivalry. Soon, her leftover nerves and embarrassment have all but melted away into soft laughter.] Well I’m sorry you’ve been surrounded by such ugly people.

I’m Diana – I guess it’s ‘Sir’ Diana now, isn't it?

[He leans towards her, that playful smile never leaving his face.]

I think 'Lady' would suit you better, but they frown upon that here for some reason.

[... and she's blushing again, and trying to keep her smile from growing larger. No one can say Thoster isn't utterly charming - though Faye's sweater catches her eye from across the room and her hand tightens in his for half of a second.]

Maybe Wynn doesn't want to leave the gentlemen out?

Ah, and she has a heart of gold for the sorry gents like myself? You, my dear, are a gem.

[He's just going to keep complimenting her as they walk around because she's young and new and needs to know how wonderful she is so that she doesn't get lost in the crowd of Knights. It's important, in Thoster's opinion, to foster that confidence as early as possible.]

[And she is entirely content to be shuffled around the room, although she should probably work on taking compliments more gracefully than she is ... even if she doesn't think she's deserving of them, which she doesn't.]

And you're incredibly flattering, Sir Chatwyn. Thank you, even if I'm not sure what I did to earn all of this praise.

[Strange and unprompted or no, it's a nice 180 from her encounter with Faye.]

Consider it my welcome present. But truly I never give praise unless its deserved. You seem a kind soul and I think such a thing should be encouraged.

[Now she looks thoughtful.] Do you think being here is going to stamp it out of me, otherwise?

[Mostly she's teasing, but she's curious too. It's not like the Knights' job is an easy one.]

Not necessarily. Innocence like yours doesn't last, though. [He's assuming a lot about her, but has a feeling that he's right.] You'll see things that will leave you with nightmares, but that's just a matter of life. I simply want to make sure you have plenty to smile about as well.

[astrae]

[If she could remember more about life in Massachusetts,she might actually be able to answer him. As it is, she shrugs. A smile still plays at the corner of her mouth, like she's trying to keep from grinning at him when she steps away.] We'll be friends, then.

[More of a statement than an actual request, but there's still that vaguely amused lilt in her voice.]
