[After a pep talk from his best gal, Charming has decided to man up and stop avoiding Amara. In fact, he's seeking her out! Seeking her out in her room... alone...

In hindsight, someone probably should have helped him come up with this plan.

But here he is, knocking on her door, and not sure if he hopes she's in there or not...]

[besmitten]

[ there's a quiet "One moment" from within, and when amara opens the door, she's in the process of removing one earring, and stops mid-motion to stare. ] ... Oh. [ it's a very breathless little exclamation, and she looks at a loss for a moment ] David.

[uncease]

[When the door opens, he takes a half step back. Ever since he figured out exactly what was going on, he was so much more aware of how she talked with him as opposed to everyone else.]

Hey... [This was already awkward.] I hope I'm not interrupting anything.

[besmitten]

No, no, I was just-- [ she lowers her hand, enclosing the earring in her palm, and offers him a small smile ] Not at all.

I almost thought you'd forgotten about me here.

[uncease]

Forgot? [Girl, he hasn't stopped thinking about this shit since you got cursed.] Not, it's just... I've been busy. [Oh my god. Bluff 4. I can't.]

Uh, so... I was wondering if you had time to talk?

[besmitten]

[ the shrewd way she's looking at him makes her NAT TWENTY SENSE MOTIVE REALLY CLEAR. still, she nods and steps aside, gesturing for him to come inside. ] I'd like that. Come in.

[uncease]

Oh... I meant- [To go out. In public. Or at least not this private.] But if she cries, he doesn't really want that to be out in the dining hall, so he'll just slip inside her room and make himself at home.]

So, are you, ah... comfortable here? [He slides his hands into his jean pockets because holy shit this is uncomfortable.]

[besmitten]

[ her bedroom is very, erm, gold, and doesn't afford too much in the way of chairs. she gestures to the singular available one, and sits on the long chaise across from it, draping her skirts just so ] More than you appear to be. [ there's a bit of a teasing light in her eyes as she regards him. ] ... But yes. Wynnefalshond has been very gracious.

[uncease]

[He walks stiffly to the chair and sits, trying to relax and failing.]

That's good... great. We really owe you for how you helped us before.

[besmitten]

I did not have much of a choice. They would have killed you, once they saw your spellcaster could break our enchantments.

You weren't really so concerned about that at first. [He sighs and leans forward.]

That's part of what I wanted to talk to you about. You know what happened right? Back there?

[besmitten]

I remember it all perfectly. [ /WEIGHTED STATEMENT from how much she is... staring at your chiseled jaw ]

[uncease]

I'm not sure that you do. [When you look at him like that, it makes him uncomfortable Amara. I AM NOT A PIECE OF MEAT.]

Zatara said something when we got there, told his daughter about a curse your people have placed on them. [He's trying so hard to be gentle here.] Do you know what I'm talking about?

[besmitten]

Of course - that's the very nonsense that prompted our kind to go into hiding in the first place.

[uncease]

I'm not so sure that it's nonsense. I... think it's real. I think it happened.

[besmitten]

[ she stares at him, her smile freezing and melting slowly ] You ... you think that's why...

[uncease]

I don't know... [The way her smile fades makes him want to back pedal, to pretend like it never happened, but he knows he can't.] It's the only thing that makes sense, isn't it? I mean, you were ready to kill us. All of us. And then...

[besmitten]

And then I realized you didn't deserve death. [ her voice is firm, as if daring him to challenge her on the subject of her sudden surge of compassion. ]

[uncease]

[He opens his mouth, then closes it and lets out a hard exhale through his nose. He hasn't expected this. He had assumed she would understand once he brought it up.]

Just like that? All at once, you were ready to betray your people? [He tries to plead with her, asking her to see reason without actually asking.]

I think you know that doesn't really sound reasonable.

[besmitten]

It had never come to anything like that before. And my father and I had come to a head on many things about the Old Ways.

[uncease]

[He doesn't have a response to that right away, and he may even be starting to doubt his own arguments.]

So it was the final straw for you?

[besmitten]

It felt like a turning point. [ for her ovaries ]

[uncease]

[God damn it, Amara. Why are you so logical about this??

Charming rubs a hand hard over his face. He doesn't even have words right now, he's just trying to think about where he got the information about Amara being cursed and how that and her own story match up to what he remembers from the mission.]

[besmitten]

[ when he doesn't respond, she gets up and slowly crosses over to sit next to him, placing one hand on his shoulder. ] I don't regret my decision.

[uncease]

[He doesn't seem to notice her movements, too caught up in his own confusion about the whole situation. As her hand touches his shoulder, he glances up quickly, turning to look at her.]

That's good. [The words are flat on his tongue, eyes drifting from her face to her hand and back again.] Pretty sure we all prefer being alive.
