Never a dull moment.

The night of the funeral was certainly eventful: as expected, some of Chad's goons appeared at the cemetery, apparently in search of the buried necklace, and the Knights barely managed to escape with their lives thanks to the appearance of a giant dune-winder worm at the beck and call of a necromancer. Yep. The other team had their own share of adventure at the hotel, and though they couldn't get Nadia to leave with them, they did establish contact, and swiped Decker Greenwall's mysterious hourglass artifact from his room at Dumage's prompting. They also ran afoul of a doppelganger in the employ of the other side, who prompted Elena to begin questioning exactly who or what she might be...

And of course, they finally met with Rafael's lawyer, a last minute replacement for Burt's usual guy, who had met with an unfortunate skiing accident or... something. Jeggred 'Jaka' Teken'Duis, and his brother Nym, garnered a great deal of suspicion from the team from the start, although Jaka seems entirely confident that he can get Rafael off on a temporary insanity plea. Either way, he's agreed to help them look for clues to try to illustrate Chad's role in events at the upcoming trial, and suggested, to that end, breaking into his Chicago office, one of many not-quite-legal suggestions he hinted at during their pow-wow.

All those Knights who are looking to assist him are meeting up with Jaka in a parking garage a few blocks away from the NOVA building, at his invitation. In fact, he's already there, leaning against his car, when they arrive.

[Vi just yanks Myri behind her (strength 16), putting herself between the cleric and the spider.] No, you back right the fuck off, dude. You are not helping my please don't step on spiders, set them free and in the wild spiel, bro. I like spiders, stop trying to eat us!

[Is she talking to a spider? Sure is. But apparently she had the same idea as Myri (wisdom 21, fambly) and if the spider is focused on her (and not wounded Myri) then it's not focused on everyone else.]

[ the spider's eyes twitch from side to side for a moment and its mandibles click, as if it's maybe listening to violet's words or trying to understand them...

and then abruptly, he lashes out with a hard-shelled leg and smacks vi aside with a mighty blow that sends her staggering -- directly into jaka's potential line of fire (atk 43, dmg 6). it then looks back towards myri, obviously intent on coming after her again. ]

[Myri can tell that it wants her, for whatever reason (wis 24). As Vi yanks her back and ends up hurt in the process, Myri's gift screams at her to heal the immediate hurt. She bites back on the urge (will 25) and takes a few steps back, eyes locked on the spider and hoping that she's right... hoping that it will follow her.]

Come on, then! [She shouts at it, waving her arms in the air to try to solidify that it has her attention as she backs away from the rest of the group. Her leg won't let her go to far, but if she can draw it out... maybe it would give someone else the chance to get away, or better yet, to kill it.] Simurghin pest! [Oh look- curse words from her home land. That's fun.]

[ the kick from the spider interrupts buffy while she tries to check if dawn's all right - but with the two girls out of the webbing now, she will turn to kick it back (attack 31, dmg 16). then she drops her foot and shouts to the others, because maybe it'll get them to stop doing stupid shit like ... attract its attention to hurt them MYRI WATER U DOIN. ] Any chance this thing has a weakness we know about? [ look the rest of them have been fighting it longer, though it doesn't look like it's been going very well. ]

[ Really? It's just going to hit it and just ricochet away harmlessly? Dawn knows so little about guns right now, but she knows that was a good shot and she just wants to shoot the spider again for it not having any effect. But there's a heaping pile of heavier fire power that Buffy dropped that she's... just going to look at because hell if she knows how to use any of that.

She glances back to Buffy, fighting the urge to shrug. ] I'd say a super-sized can of Raid, but I'm pretty sure we'd probably, like, kill ourselves before that stupid thing dies. [ Maybe they could distract it. If she moves in the opposite direction of Myri, maybe it won't know how to go after. She starts backing away from it (and the webbing), making extra noise. ] No, come this way, you big ugly Shelob thing!

[ buffy's strike surprises the spider clearly, and his attention is obviously diverted back towards her, despite dawn's best distraction efforts...

meanwhile jaka lets out an entirely exasperated sigh as violet goes stumbling into his sight line, and you can hear his eye roll as he says to her: ] Do you mind.

[ so, despite his clear moment of consideration over whether or not to just go for it... jaka will be holding his action until after violet's turn. ]

[Elena clearly isn't expecting the feat of strength that Archer pulls in the next moment, and she stumbles into him, arms catching around his neck to keep herself from falling (balance 9).]

...Thanks.

[And like an apparent badass, she's going to spot the spider over his shoulder, aim, and fire off the best shot of her life. (nat 20 atk....30 dmg)]

[Ringing noises, followed by yelling;]
JESUS FUCK, ELENA! WHY WOULD YOU EVER DO THAT?! GOD DAMMIT...

[Archer pulls her close, spins them around, and quick draws his Remington Spartan Sawed-Off shotgun mimicking Elena's shot - attempting to exact some Tinnitus-Related revenge, and murder Shelob.]
[Atk is a roll of 26... IDK if that hits or not? 23 damage if it do.]
YEAH. THAT'S YOUR TYMPANIC MEMBRANE RUPTURING ELENA! FUCK...

[He puts one hand up to an ear.]
MAWP!

[And while the otp is being sexiful, Vi is glowering at Jaka because fuck you she was just bitch slapped by a spider (again) while he is taking his sweet ass time waiting to fire so they all can observe how sexy he is with his heavy artillery like look at me with my spider killing weapon, watch me not use it, but look hot not doing it.

Fuck everything, Violet hates the world.] Bite me. [But she does turn to dart back to Myri, and out of his line of fire, while the spider is stalking Buffy.]

[ her words are half cut off, because the second she moves, jaka unleashes three separate bursts of bullets from the machine gun (17, 24, 13). the first two drill about ten bullets against the spider's side, which clatter off it without apparently leaving any damage. jaka seems unconcerned with the ineffectiveness, and continues training the gun on it as it moves. ]

[ as the spider rears around, it lunges at buffy and snaps its jaws around her leg as well (atk 28, dmg 9). when it wrenches its mandibles free, she needs to make a will save (DC 20), or suffer from being magically slowed: in which case, she may only make a single move or attack action per round, but not both, and suffers -1 to Defense, attacks, and reflex saves. ]

[As the creatures bites down on Buffy's leg, Myri flies into action. Moving for the weapons that were dropped, she grabs the first thing she can get her hands on in the pile of weapons- a shotgun and awkwardly gets her hands around it. This is probably a very bad idea. It's unfortunate that "flying into action" really isn't that fast thanks to the spider... But she probably looks pretty bad ass holding this gun.]

[ yeah buffy is wiped by that blow - it makes her mind feel muddled, and her body doesn't seem to be listening quite right to what she's telling it to do, and there's a disconnect (will 19). but she manages to push through it, and rise to her feet to punch up under the spider's belly (atk 29, dmg 12). ]

[ Okay, Dawn is tired of this mother-frigging spider on her mother-frigging sister (that she doesn't know about). What she does know is that Buffy's been nice to her and pulled her out of the web, and she's going to take another shot at that thing. ]

Why couldn't it have been a giant butterfly or something?

[ (Ranged attack nat 20, dmg 22.) ]

[ another 3 bursts of fire from the machine gun - the first of which rips into the beast, tearing through its armor and breaking chunks off (atks 28, 10, 7, first attk yields 38 dmg). the spider staggers a bit, showing its first sign of real weakness from the barrage of sudden attacks from all sides. ]

[Elena pats him on the side of the face after he fires off his rather loud shot (fort save 17).]

Come on, man up. You'll be fine.

[If hers ended up fine after they bled out everywhere, his will be too. At least this time she disengages herself and shoots from beside him instead of over his shoulder, but misses this time (ranged atk 17)]

MAWP!... WHAT!?

[Archer fires off another blast from the shotgun... And misses pretty catastrophically because I rolled a 4. (So, 11 total. bleh.) Then he reloads the shotgun.]

...MAWP!

[Violet follows Myri's lead and scoops up a gun -- the AK-47 -- and holds it almost as awkwardly as Myri holds hers. But at least Vi has seen one fired so she knows the basics of what to do.]

[ you know what, buffy, spider has had about enough of your shit. so much, in fact, that it rears back and uses a full attack to slam her with all eight of its legs. atks 38, 30, nat 20, 33, 42, 39, 31, and 37.

cumulative damage dealt... seventy two. which, after her damage reduction equals: sixty-four. o__o putting failboat's tank at a whopping -5 hit points of unconsciousness. luckily, her 19 fortitude save prevented her from being straight up murdered by the massive damage. buffy is currently bleeding out - every round when her turn comes up, she must make a fortitude save (DC 20). if she succeeds, she stabilizes. if she does not stabilize, she loses 1 hp that round and must try to make the save again next round.

[The idea of Myri being offensive was nice while it lasted.

The moment that the spider begins to attack Buffy, the gun falls from Myri's hands, clattering to the ground. She runs (or... moves as quickly as she can with her slowed movement) by the spider to get to her friend, not thinking at all about what the creature might do. She get's a quick reminder, as one of the back legs lash out at her as she moves, cutting into her back deeply and causing her to rock off balance, falling on her knees to Buffy's fallen form. She cries out in pain- both hers and Buffy's through her empathic abilities. (loss of 14 hp from spider attack)

Sadly, the stupid spider slowed her so she can't heal now. So she will just be crying over her unconscious friend for now.]

[ the first attack, she expected. in fact, she was ready for it, but it doesn't give a fuck that she was ready for it because it still hurts like a bitch and then there are seven to follow up after it. she staggers with each hit, and then finally collapses to the ground, sinking first to her knees, and then slumping over unconscious without even the chance to make a sound, leaving a very attractive puddle of blood forming beneath her.

fort save 21. buffy has stabilized, but remains unconscious. and really can you blame her. ]

[ This is... unacceptable. Highly unacceptable. Could people please not die or try to die here in front of Dawn? Or just ever. Yes, good. Never die. This is not a request.

So much for her plan to try to distract the damn thing. She moves closer, standing over Myri and Buffy, her gun raised. She pulls the trigger without even thinking about it. (ranged atk 16) This thing needs to die, and it needs to die now. ]

[ another round of bullets explodes out of the machine gun (24, 25, and nat 20, dmg ... 78.) it seems that jaka has hit his stride with the giant gun now - just took a little bit of getting used to. the spider makes its massive damage save against the bullets ripping holes in his shell and piercing its organs (fort 22), however, it starts swerving on its feet, one of its knees collapsing out as it lets out a horrible shriek, eyes circling madly. ]

[Elena watches in horror as the spider rears back and does absolutely horrible, terrible things to her friend, and she can't hold back the scream in her throat as she yells Buffy's name (will save 9).

She breaks away from her spot next to Archer, running over to join the other two women by her friend, ready to step in the way of any attack that might come from the spider to finish off Buffy or interrupt Myri's attempts to heal her.

She also fires off two shots at the spider's face once she's in position, because she is pissed (Heroic Surge, ranged atk 7 and...nat 20, dmg 20)]

[Still hilariously deafened and shouting like a jackass;]
SHIT! IS SHE OK?!
[Archer tags along, while mocking the spider for not having Combat Reflexes.]

[As he gets in front of the spider, he lifts his shotgun, and crams it into the monster's mouth (Touch atk 18)...]
EAT... DAMMIT, I HAD SOMETHING FOR THIS... FUCK YOU, SHELOB!

[...And Double Taps, firing two bullets into it's big stupid spider face. It deals 3D8-1 damage for Double Tap - so 17 total.]
JESUS, IS THIS THING LIKE... THREE-QUARTER DRAGON?! WHY WON'T IT DIE?!
