It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Tuesday- which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Sir Carpenter waits over by the firing range door, arms folded. Red-headed Sir Ironsides hefts an axe over his shoulder and offers a boisterous greeting to those approaching, and Fred helps round people up to the middle of the room.

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

[Shit sounds treacherous. He's just happy to hear that she's decided to yield, considering she could have opted to heal herself and continue if she chose. His sword is lowered immediately when she does, blade pointed toward the floor while his free hand moves back to cover the deep wound still bleeding at his side.]

Ferelden. [Said with a heavy breath as he looks over one of the deeper cuts sliced into his arm, then back toward Alanna as she begins working her curative magic. The name probably meant nothing to her. He'd yet to come across anyone who had ever heard of the country, let alone his world.]

For what it's worth, I was impressed by you as well.

[ yeah it doesn't mean shit to her, but she nods along anyway. she lowers her blade as well, letting it drop. for a moment, she watches him from a distance. ] Thank you. [ after a beat, however, she approaches him. ]

Let me help you. I was responsible for your injuries, you can at least grant me permission to do what I can in easing them.

You won't hear any argument from me. [He's not trying to bleed out over here, for real. It was either her, or trekking his ass across the hall to get one of the other clerics to do it. At least with her he'd have something nice to look at in the meantime.]

You might see Sir Fred about providing assistance in training the new squires. I believe the duty falls to the Dragon's Hide, where combat is concerned. [ she approaches him, surefooted and smiling, and rests her hands on him - one on his shoulder, the other on his upper abdomen. warmth spreads from her hands, and the purple aura glows around her, channeling into him. cure moderate wounds = +16 hp for you, aedan. go aedan. it's rly nothing in the grand scheme of his hp but it's what she's got left spell-wise. ] You'll need rest as well, but that should keep you on your feet.

Once Alanna has finished her spell, Aedan finds himself experiencing a second wind. It was enough to keep him from bleeding out or collapsing from exhaustion, which was enough.]

Quite powerful for a squire. [ the knowing smile on her lips is account of the fact that she can remember receiving similar comments in her diplomatic duels. ] Were you a knight, as well, before you came to us?

You might say that. I was a member of the Grey Wardens. It's probably as similar an organization as you could find to Wynn's knighthood where I come from. Although "Sir" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "Warden Commander," I admit.

[Have a smile and forget all about the fact that he just tried slicing you open, gurl (charisma 17).]

But enough about me. I've yet to learn anything of you apart from your ability to handle a blade as well as any fighter, while still being adept in the art of spirit healing. That's not a combination you see very often in either world.

[ her will save is predictably low (8) and she is charmed. which for alanna really just means flustered yammering because how do you what no. ] No. No, I suppose it doesn't. [ she clears her throat, moving on to answer his question. ]

The old woman who cared for me warned me at a young age to cultivate my Gift, to make up for the lives I'd take as a knight. [ she lowers her hands, a fond look crossing her face at the thought of maude. it's a happy distraction from dat ass. i mean smile. jk i definitely meant dat ass. ] I was a knight of my land, of Tortall, before the Veil tore me from my adventures there.

It would seem we've more in common than I thought. Of course, the old woman who cared for me didn't warn me to cultivate my gift of healing so much as she did to keep out my dog out of her kitchen. [Plus, you know, the whole being knights, or at least the equivalent. You know.]

How long has it been for you?

Two years since I've come through the Veil. Most of it with the knights. [ she pulls her shirt closed in front of her, moving off to the side of the practice area to pull off her tattered armor and find a new shirt to pull over her ruined one. ] And you?

Nearly a year now--most of it spent here.

[Oh was he supposed to turn away or something? Whoops he must have forgotten his post-training etiquette.]

I've been told most don't recall much of their lives before arriving here. I'm the opposite. I like to think that's why I've found it so difficult to adjust.

The amount that's lost in the journey varies. Some remember nothing, others can't even figure out what it is they've lost. For their sake, I hope it at least took the painful bits. [ she shrugs. she's got no idea, because no one from her shadow world is here that she knows of. ] It takes time, as anything does. You'll do fine if you keep at it.

There's at least one benefit, I've found, to this entire situation. I couldn't ask for better company. [He's laying it on pretty thick. Must be Tuesday.]

... You mean me? Oh, I'm not - [ she holds up a hand, laughing it off. ] You're kind. And barking up the wrong tree, as they might say in this land. I'm happy to guide you in what you need, but believe me, that's all.

I'd like to take you up on that offer at some point. Or, if you're ever in the mood for another sparring session, I think I'd like that as well.

[ his curt reply makes her work her jaw, tilting her head a little. she blurts out; ] It's not that you're any sort of unpleasant. But I've grander things to do with my life than be some man's wife. [ and alanna is not from the 21st century where you can have it all ok. she has to pioneer that herself. ] Which is to say: yes. On the count of sparring, my answer is yes. I'd like it very much. You offer quite the workout: who is it you're squired to? I'll pass on a good word.

He didn't recall ever proposing to her, but for whatever reason he is currently under the impression that bringing as much to her attention would only further thwart any future efforts to win her over. Instead, he chooses the safe route, and focuses on her follow-up.]

That would be Sir La Krail. Though somehow I doubt your good word will count for much where I'm concerned. Still, I appreciate the sentiment all the same.

[ oh. christos and squires. alanna's expression scrunches up. ] I'm sorry to hear it. As mentors go, it seems they've scraped the bottom of the barrel for you. Sir La Krail is knowledgeable, but you'd think the man has a burr in his ass for all the personality he has. [ she scowls. ] Have they had you out on a mission yet?

[Well that gets a little chuckle out of him, even if he has no idea what a burr is. He's just glad he isn't the only one who's noticed ok.]

Not yet. I assume they wanted me to familiarize myself first, considering this world is so different from my own.

What they wanted, hm? And what do you want, Squire Aedan? [ she smirks a little, considering him as she buttons up the blouse she wrangled up from god know where. the training room just stocks spare men's shirts ok. and alanna is more used to men's clothing than women's, so it works out. ]

I'd like to be useful. Though if my lack of knowledge might somehow compromise a mission, then I can understand why it's better that I remain here for the time being. That doesn't mean I have to like it, of course.

Quite the diplomatic response. [ she tilts her head, considering him. ] You really believe that, or are you dying to get your hands dirty?

A little of both, honestly. Though it helps to have a sparring partner who doesn't glower at me whenever I try and pay her a compliment. [Sorry, boo. Force of habit.] Or even when I don't. [But yeah that was him basically throwing Christos under the bus.]

Who'd guess a good glower was worse than being run through.

That all depends. I wouldn't say the same had it been just anybody running me through. [Why does it sound like this is entering pegging territory tho.]

And besides, the truth of the matter is he only glowers at me when he's in one of his better moods. [By her own admission, she had met the man.]
