The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ she looks back over her shoulder, still smacking her pockets in annoyance. ] I think I dropped my lighter in the woods.

I'll take that as a sign you're not with the Dragon's Fire. [ she gestures inside. ] I'd offer, but I don't smoke. There are some candles inside, though; tell me why you were in the woods, and I'll go grab you one.

Because I am in the Dragon's Fire and they've run a little low on some basic spell components in the storeroom since the last time I was here? I mean how hard is it to keep mushrooms on hand?

[ sighhh ] And I'd light it up magic-style but pretty sure a fireball might be a little bit overkill and that's all I got warmed up today.

[ emma's only ever been a sorcerer and met other sorcerers, she doesn't understand this wizardry. ]

Prepped this morning, when I ran through my spells. You know, doing all the ooga-booga fancy nonsense so they're all ready to trigger at any moment when someone looks like they could use their face singed off.

Is it normal to have to do that? [ she holds up a hand. ] Candle first. [ nicotine addiction's a bitch. she slips inside to grab one without waiting for an answer. ]

[ kat is happy to light up when emma comes back with lumiere there, although she does add: ] Man, this feels like some straight up Macguyver shit.

I think Macguyver would probably have used earrings as flint. [ she sets the candle aside on, idk, lawn furniture. surprise wynn has lawn furniture. ]

Probably. Too bad I don't wear 'em.

So ... You said something about preparing your spells ...

Pretty standard mage stuff. No one wants to have to do ten minutes of complicated ritual shit when you're in the middle of a battle, so we do all of that prep work in the morning and just leave the spell waiting on a trigger to set it off.

And does ... everyone who uses magic have to do these rituals? [ well, obviously emma doesn't, but she's mostly asking because she's never heard of that shit and wants to know if she's just fucking weird. ]

Mages, witches, warlocks, and the like, yeah. Not sorcerers or whatever, I guess, but their whole thing's... a little different. People who learned magic, like me.

I - Nobody ever told me there was a difference. [ and emma never looked into her magic herself bc she's a peasant lol. ]

I guess it doesn't matter to most people.

I guess. As long as everyone's learning to use what they've got. But don't ... sorcerers -- [ she makes no secret of how weird that is to say. ] -- have to learn magic, too?

Well, yeah, but they spend all their time memorizing how to do that shit on the fly. It's different for them, because they like, have magic in their blood.

So, they come by it naturally. [ she nods her understanding. she picks at her nails briefly, shifting her weight. ] Thanks. I don't think I caught your name.

Kat Samcelot. Didn't get yours either. Sort of been out of the castle loop for awhile.

Emma Swan. I'm ... pretty new, all things considered. [ she ... thinks. a year seems new here. ] Which I guess you probably realized.
