Which galaxy are we talking about? [And yes, so far as you can tell, he is being completely serious rn.]

I've escaped from nearly a hundred Slams, from places like Butchers Bay to
Crematoria, all of which were worse than any prison here on Earth, and none of which even exist yet in this time.

[He looks at her expectantly, letting all of that sink in.]

...there are multiple ones? [Her eyes widen. She has only a sort of vague idea of what space is like, and astronomy is one of the many things she just blatantly failed to learn anything about due to her extreme ADHD. Even so, it's less the fact that there are multiple galaxies that surprise her as that there are multiple ones that people can go to and get jailed in.

And the rest of it sinks in and she grins.] Oh! Are you Shadow world?

Multiple galaxies? Yeah, more than you can count. I'm not from the Shadow World though. I'm from Earth, originally. I dunno how it really happened, but Jack explained it to me that though I came through the Veil too, I just came from the future.


[He again shrugs a massive shoulder very nonchalantly, like he talks about this every day.]

Same place, different time.

I wonder if I'll still be alive when they do multi-galaxy space travel.

[It's so far from impossible. Andie could live thousands of years. It's an Aasimar thing.]

[Lol Riddick may be talking all casual about time-travel, but he sure has no idea that people can have extended life expectancy. He just ends up giving her a weird look, cocking his head slightly to the side.]

You expect to be alive five hundred years from now. [He says this in a monotone voice as if testing whether she is really hearing his words. He'd already observed that she has a hard time paying attention to any one thing that was being said. Maybe this was one of those times.

Either that or maybe she was crazier than he was.]

Huh? [Her eyes snap to him again because she'd gotten a little lost in her head and was now... miles away.] Um. Maybe. Dunno. Is that when space starts?

[Riddick just throws his head back, laughing at her. He cannot even... make words right now. Never has he laughed this hard that he can remember, and he's definitely never been this entertained.

So far this flight wasn't too bad.]

When space starts. Hoo, that was good.

[She stares at him, kind of pleased she made him laugh because he seems like the sort of guy who's usually grumpy, but also a little disgruntled because he seems to be laughing at her.]

I don't get the joke.

That much is obvious. [This is said extremely dryly while he stretches his arms up behind himself, his legs crossing at the ankles. He'll try to explain without being too mean. Sorry, he's a mean jerk-head.]

Did you know that in this time space exploration has already existed for roughly fifty-five years? So no, space doesn't exactly start over five hundred years from now.

Well, duh. I'm not stupid. But it's not like people live there.

See? [She whacks his arm.] I will so be alive in fifty years. I'm gonna go to space!

[The whack on his arm actually gets a friendly chuckle out of him. Apparently physical violence = friend times to Riddick.]

Yeah, maybe you will. What did you mean by "maybe" being alive in another five hundred years? Last I checked immortality was still just a psycho's wet-dream.

Well, duh, but living to 500 isn't the same as living forever. [Obviously.]

...living to 500 is pretty much impossible too, you know. May not be immortality but it's close enough. [Obviously.]

Impossible for humans, sure. But so's running at the speed of sound.

[Riddick looks at her quietly a moment at that statement, truly curious now. Something inhuman he was used to dealing with. But she didn't have weird spikes coming from her head, no extra limbs that he had seen, nothing telling to say she was alien.]

What race are you, then? What System are you from? [He leans forward, keenly interested suddenly, his deep voice rumbling quickly.]

Y'know, yanking my chain about space-travel was good, you really had me thinking you'd never heard of other Systems before.

[Wow, Riddick, she's not an alien. And just looks... so blank at what he's saying because what?]

Uh. My great great something was from Shadow World?

[He actually looks a bit crest-fallen at her answer. Look he has never heard about Shadow-kind, or the Shadow World before like this past month, and he definitely has never heard of long-lived descendants of anyone before. He's still in the baby-steps stage of learning all this stuff.

Plus he was kinda hoping for someone else who knew what he was talking about, too. /sadforever.]

Oh. Right. [A pause.]

People from the Shadow World can live that long?

[Poor Riddick. Andie feels kinda bad but there's... not really anything she can do about it besides look momentarily sympathetic.]

Aasimars can.

Aasimars? [He hates having gaps in his knowledge so so much, but in this case there is really too freaking much to learn in the short amount of time that he's been here to know it all.

He figures out of everyone here she seemed to be the type not to hold it against him, or to mind being questioned.]

[She grimaces a little. Not because she holds the questioning against him, but because, well, it's kind of embarrassing. Like, she doesn't really want to brag about her heritage. She'll brag about her speed, of course, but that's because it's so very hard to hide and easy to show off. But the why? She likes it better when people don't ask. She doesn't even know what deity she's descended from, and she couldn't really prove it even if she did. Not really.]

Um. My even more great great great great great grandsomething is a god?

[He just... looks at her a moment, waiting with a deadpan expression on his face for the other boot to drop. When it becomes clear that she does in fact believe that her greatwhatever was a god, he leans back in his seat, his head rearing back and slightly to the side.

She hadn't seemed crazy. Sure, she talked like she was hopped up on sugar most of the time, but that didn't mean her sanity was in question.

He also got the impression off of her that she wasn't lying. Maybe her parents had lied to her when she was little to make her feel special? His horrible Arcane Lore check makes it so that this is completely plausible to him, don't blame him :\

He looks at her another moment, then decides that asking another question is the best way to deal with this.]

Are there many Aasimars around?

[She shrugs, looking a little blasé. He doesn't look like he believes her. She didn't totally expect him to. But it is what it is.]

My dad's extended family. Dunno about outside of us. There aren't, like, Aasimar conventions. Like I know there are others, from Shadow World, but I couldn't, like, give you an exact count.

[She still looks not crazy to him, and given her casual reaction had him thinking that maybe it was possible.

Either she was truly deluded, or she was telling the truth. He was just gonna have to do something he never thought he would, but was beginning to realize that with these people sometimes his usual approach wouldn't do him any good. He was just going to have to trust her word.]

"So, how does that work exactly?" [Instead of sounding incredulous still, he actually sounds placated and interested in what she has to say. He may never have been a student by conventional means, but he sure as hell likes to learn new things.]

"I've never heard of it before, and so far as I know there's only one God and he doesn't normally give many fucks what people do, much less co-mingle with them enough to have a kid more than once.

And that didn't turn out all that good for the kid, in the end."
