The briefing was simple and direct: a string of disappearing Shadowkind centered around a small farming town in Wales. The Karthur Institute wasn't called in until the local authorities got reports of incessant, blood-curdling screams coming from a barn just past the edge of town. They found a girl curled in the corner there, screaming her lungs out, shaking, and looking like she'd been running around the forest alone for days.

They also found the five bodies of their missing townspeople in the barn.

They tell the knights (and thus, Wynn tells them) that the girl is in police custody, but they don't tell them that she's pinned in a cell. They've fed her and given her a coat by now, but the deputy is quick to alert Helen, Rose, Sydney, and Alaric as they arrive of the bad news.

"She hasn't shut up since we put her in there." He glances back over his shoulder, toward the lock-up. "Not screamin', just wanting to know who they were." He looks back at the knights, grim. "Don't think she's got any idea how she got out there. I don't have it in me to tell her I don't either; wherever she's rom, it inn't Pembrokeshire."

[ hoLY SHIT. lydia wastes her full action on searching for something better than gardening shears to attack with. she comes up empty, and lets out a yelp as grandma fucking duke up here fires off another shotgun shell into the wall that rose is ducking behind.

apparently, she does not care about your diplomacy, rose. ]

[ well... fine, then. taking her action now. she shoots out from around the corner, keeping her cover (atk 15, atk 18, 8 dmg and 9 dmg respectively) ]

Lydia looks pretty unsettled by that fact, but she's hanging out of this because shears are not adequate ranged weapons. This time her search check was a nat 20 so she dips back into the kitchen to grab a knife. With 100% plans to throw it. We'll see how that goes ~next time.~

Meanwhile, Grandma Duke is mad. ]

Earl told me you were all animals. [ She says it like this just confirms it. ] Goin' around people's houses shooting at 'em. What's wrong with you?

By taking a -2 on her attack roll, she can ignore Syd's cover. Her attacks of 25 goes straight through the wall to hit her, but the other gets stopped up (atk 20). The 13 damage Syd takes from that first shotgun blast probably keeps her from feeling too grateful about the second one burying itself in the wall too far to Grandma's left.

And now it's back to poor Rose and her crit fail btw. ]

You kidnapped us you crazy old bitch! [Yes Rose, antagonize the lady with the gun.

Speaking of guns... Rose doesn't have hers cause she's smart like that so she's going to dart out from around the corner and attempt to grapple Grandma Duke, provoking an Attack of Opportunity.]

[ Grandma Duke fires a shot off as Rose approaches, but she's old and flustered so it goes pretty wild (atk 14). Grappling her only takes beating a 12 str check. ]

[And with a Strength Check of 23 Rose might be going a little overboard but she's sick of old people shooting at them.]

Calm your ass down Grandma and start talking. Who are you working with and why are you doing this?

[ syd follows rose and wrenches the weapon out of granny's hands, silently glaring as back-up, while also... looking around for more trouble. 8| ]

[ Disarmed and grappled, Granny is having a bad time. ]

The hell makes you think we're working for anybody?! We're doin this town a service getting rid of your kind.

[ Lydia stops at the bottom of the stairs, rolling her eyes and dropping the shears to her sides. ]

[ Granny looks very offended!! ]

[ The lady struggles a moment longer, but eventually gives up and glowers at them. She might be intimidated into cooperating, but she's also a hateful bitch. So. There's that. ]

We got kids like anybody.

[ She makes no mention of whether they're involved, addressing Sydney instead of Rose. ]

[ At that moment, the front door bursts open and Eddie and Amy both arrive through it. Eddie looks in pretty bad shape all around, and immediately spills to the floor of the living room. Amy notices that no one's hanging out in the living room or the kitchen, though, and pulls her gun, thump thump thumping towards the stairs. ]

Mom? Dad?

[Rose somehow manages to look more irritated than concerned, the here we go again written all over her face as she shoots a warning look at granny (intimidate 37... apparently her looks can damn near kill) and moves to conceal herself around the corner in the hopes of surprising who she figures is one of the kids in question as she comes up the stairs. (hide 19)]

[ syd casts a look to lydia, obviously concerned about her being in the middle of this, speaking in a hushed voice. ] We're going to need to disable them. Can you watch her? [ she nods to granny shotgun, as she pushes open the nearest door for which to direct them into ]

Oh, yeah, sure.

[ She doesn't look pleased about it, but Rose is already retreating, so Lydia just throws up her hands. ]

Leave me with the gun-toting psychopath.

[ Still, she follows into the door that Sydney indicates, forcing Granny Duke to walk ahead of her (move silently 21). ]

If she boils me into stew while you're gone? I'm suing.

[ On the bright side, Rose's intimidate has totally spooked Granny into silent obedience. ]

[The moment Rose sees the woman's shadow draw near (spot 29) she steps out in front of her in attempt to disarm her, provoking an attack of opportunity that sees Rose try to dodge the attack (AC 27). Should the attack fail she'll attempt to disarm with her stake in hand (Atck 34).]

[ Amy's attack of opportunity misses, but only barely (atk 25). Startled by Rose's sudden appearance, she does a poor job resisting the attack (atk 12), and Rose successfully disarms her of her weapon.

From across the floor, Eddie pulls his gun and tries to fire at Rose to no avail (atk 15). Amy, unfazed by the disarm, simply tries to deck her. :') Her fist sails wide, straight past Rose's face (atk 13). ]

[ syd darts out, running across the floor to deliver an axe kick disarm attempt as well. opposed attack roll 22 to knock the gun from his hand. ]

[ definitely beats his 16. the gun goes skidding across the floor, and eddie slumps over, useless and exhausted by his injuries. ]

[Oh, look. What a perfect time for Helen to come busting in, gun in hand. All the enemy weapons on the floor and her two bad ass teammates ready to kick ass? Yes, good.]

On the floor. Both of you. Now!

[She keeps her gun trained on Amy, but she's talking to both of them, clearly (intimidate 32)]

[ Lydia is already hidden in a room with granny psychopath, so she's not doing anything as Helen bursts in. Mostly she just hopes that Sydney and Rose don't die rn. Similarly, Granny's failure vs. intimidate is still going.

Officer Incompetent comes in behind Helen, panting and wheezing like he ran up the stairs behind her with much less skill from the car. ]

Jesus, lady, just— [ He looks around like da fuck ??? ] ... Amy? Eddie?

[And Rose has absolutely no idea who Officer Incompetent is so like a good Knight who has been kidnapped, shot at repeatedly and generally given the worst welcome to Wales ever... she's going to pull her gun and turn it on him as she looks past Helen - Hi Helen.]

Who the hell are you and why shouldn't I shoot you?! [Rose Hathaway. Making friends wherever she goes.]

[ Amy puts her hands up, steadily crouching to her knees on the floor. It's not hard to see that she's outnumbered. Eddie is useless on the ground, and neither has anything to say for themselves.

But the officer will take a free action to answer Rose. ]

Local police. Your friend here had the idea Officer Casey might be involved in this. I didn't want to believe it, but ...
