The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Yeah. [ she looks up and manages a tiny smile, but it's not quite there. ] I'm not sure I will.

[Kate nods a bit.]

It's not for everyone. At least with squiring parties that aren't your own, there's a little less pressure to be there.

I don't have to come next month? [ what this is the best news. ]

[She shakes her head.]

Not unless you want to. It's good for morale, but these things are entirely optional.

Oh. [ it sounds very similar to THATS GREAT. and that's the last anyone saw of abigail hobbs at a squiring party. :) ] Thanks.

[Whoops. But hey, squiring parties aren't for everyone. The introvert in Kate doesn't blame her for wanting to skip them.]

No problem. I'm Kate, by the way.

[And she'll extend a hand to her.]

Abigail. [ she shakes, but let's go quickly. she's the epitome of a startled fawn, tense and nervous. people. too many people. she hates meeting people. ]

[Kate notices this, before gesturing to one of the doors near them.]

Want to take a walk? It's actually a rather nice night for London.

[And she has a feeling a break from all the people might be in order.]

Um, sure, yeah. [ she nods and stands up. ]

[And Kate will lead the way out the door to the grounds themselves, taking a deep breath once they hit the fresh air. Out here it's a little less overwhelming, and a whole lot quieter.]

There. That's better.

[theminotaur]

Yeah. [ it does calm abigail down a little, as well, shoulders relaxing as the walk. ] I'm not really social.

Not everyone is. Thankfully, it's not a requirement to be a knight.

[Kate is social, when the moment calls for it, but she values her alone time as well. It's a hard balance to strike, but she works hard at it.]

I'm not really sure what is.

[Kate gives a bit of shrug.]

I think it takes all types. We all have different skill sets, we all have to work together to get the job done - that's why no one does missions alone.

I suppose so. [ she just hasn't figured out her skill set. defenestration is not a skill set she ever wants to repeat. ]

[Kate wouldn't blame her for that one.]

If nothing else, at least we all have a place.

I wonder if that is why some people join. [ it sure was a selling feature for abigail. ]

Probably. A lot of us are Shadowkind - having a place that welcomes us is ... not something you find all that often.

[theminotaur]

No, it doesn't seem like it is. [ ponder ponder. she doesn't know. everything is still new to her. ]

[Kate's been living in this world for a year at least. She's gotten used to being not at all welcome.]

Having a place like this is good. Especially a place that can make us feel useful.

[theminotaur]

Yeah, and I guess it's not as easy of you're from... Faerûn or something. [ things there seem to be incredibly archaic and the knights seem to be good at introducing people to... modern amenities. ]

[killmypatience]

[She nods a bit.]

Or even not from a world that has these kinds of ... people. I don't exactly remember, but I'm pretty sure I'm not from somewhere with magic.

Neither am I. [ magic still weirds her out, but she can see the benefit of it, unconsciously tucking her hair behind her ear. ]

It's been a lot to adjust to. I at least was in the world a while before I came here. It gave me some time to get used to it.

I was only here a couple months. There didn't seem to be much... [ she shrugs. stuff. ] In Minnesota.
