The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ lila lifts her eyebrows slightly. ] I'm pretty sure Lord Patten is actually a knight, so yeah, if you want to be an Oxonian, you're probably golden.

... Wait, really? Is he here?

Not to my knowledge, but I'm sure a recommendation from anyone in the Dragon's Hoard would net you a decent college. [ why was alex just telling her this and now she is telling someone else??? IS IT A SIGN?? yes, go the fuck to college, lila. ]

The Hoard. That's one of the sects, right? I'll assume they're academics; what are the rest?

Tongue, that's the diplomats, the people that know how to talk their way in and out of anything; Hide, run of the mill fighters; Fire, that's the magic users. There's a sub-sect of that, the Dragon's Mind, for psions and such. Then the Light, which is medics and healers, people like that; and freelancers, they do whatever, I guess.

They really do take all kinds here. Which sect are you with? Or are you still a squire.

[ I DONT KNOW. WHY MUST YOU ASK THESE QUESTIONS. lila waves a hand dismissively. ] Dragon's Tongue.

[ if she's not yet, here's a bluff of 46 to make up for that. bases covered. boom. ]

Hm. Not bad.

[ she considers lila for a moment before giving her nod of approval. ]

How long have you been here?

[bittersweeter]

A year in February.

[ she nods—good. that’s an indicator of how long she can expect to wait before being knighted. she looks around, considering the ballroom. can she dig it for a year? ]

And in your year here, have they been putting any resources into reversing the flow of the Veil?

[bittersweeter]

I'm not aware it's possible. It's not exactly my area of study so I don't really care. [ honesty, yo. ] Gar would probably know, though.

Excellent. Last question, then I swear the orientation session's over. What's the library like? If I want to find out more about types of Shadowkind ...

[bittersweeter]

[ jackpot! lydia found one of the things lila gives a fuck about. ] It's gorgeous. There's a separate one in the Dragon's Hoard wing, but the main one is incredible. Belle is the librarian. [ she glances around to find her, but comes up short. oh well. ] Do you want to see it?

[immuno]

Assuming this party isn't going to spontaneously manifest someone worth dancing with? [ she loops an arm through lila's without asking permission, smiling. ] Love to.

[bittersweeter]

[ ugh, no, only lila can invade another person's personal space! but w/e she's fine with it right now. in any case, lila leads her to the library (nav 17) without even thinking about where she is going. she's just very used to walking the path to the library -- as they walk she points out what all the other doors are with a lazy ease. she obviously doesn't care, but she still knows what is what. she pushes the doors to the library open and steps away from lydia to let her look around. hopefully she won't disturb lila's little nest under the window. ] This is it. There's the second floor balcony thing and specialty rooms, but it's pretty straight forward.

[ lydia releases lila as they enter the library and wanders out to begin to hunt around, getting a feel for how the sections are divided. she walks back around the bookshelves towards the open space they’d entered into and looks back at lila. ]

Specialty rooms as in study rooms? [ she’s not really the type to prefer being left alone, but it seems like a good thing to clarify. ]

[bittersweeter]

Yeah. That one -- [ she points to one in the back and she moves back there, hopping up to perch on her liberated table. ] --is full of magic texts. I've seen some of them in the Dragon's Fire wing so I figure it's just for people that don't hang out there.

Do we need to check them out, or is it fine since we all just live here anyway like some great big cult?

[bittersweeter]

I've never checked them out? But I basically live here. Belle doesn't even put my stuff away anymore. [ which is... probably because lila asks her not to. ]

Why? I'm fairly certain there are more interesting parts of the castle than the library.

[bittersweeter]

I don't sleep. Trust me, there aren't more interesting parts. When I'm not here or at the firing range, I just try not to be in the castle at all.

Everyone sleeps. Shadowkind or human, your brain still requires standby time to compartmentalize and filter impulses and information.

[bittersweeter]

Yeah and sleep deprivation is a form of torture and people can die from organ failure with severe lack of sleep because your body literally shuts down. Not to mention the insanity, [ she says it with such casual indifference. actual bored expert lila zacharov. ] I'm very aware of what happens when you don't sleep.

Then, you should be very aware that if you weren't getting some, you'd be dead. [ so with that correction made. ] Is this a Shadowkind don't need much sleep thing or are you just a very open insomniac?
