The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ alanna approaches with a glass of wine in hand, a disguise of 18 putting her in a soft periwinkle dress, wearing a pleasant smile on her face to mask her amusement. ]

It's the oddest thing. You look just like Sir Lannister, but I know he'd not be caught dead in any attire born of this century.

That is odd indeed. [He smiles pleasantly back at her.] Since you look a great deal like Ser Alanna, but you appear to be smiling.

Ah, yes, you'll have to forgive me for shattering the illusion, but it takes a great deal of effort to be so dour and disapproving all the time. [ it's been a bad week and this party is like all that's going for her bc she feels super shitty about telling mirrorlandel about the round table room ok. she's milking it. ] Besides. [ she looks around. ] Someone's got to be smiling around here.

Yes, the dour look is certainly covered. [He glances around, sipping wine from his goblet.] Is this still all about that business at that girl's knighting ceremony?

Not entirely the impostor, no. [ she looks back at jaime, tilting her head. ] Sarandis got his hands on Thomas.

[Knowledge: current events says Jaime already knew, and his expression darkens at the mention.]

I'm well aware. I suppose we're lucky he's such a valuable hostage. Sarandis would be a fool to sacrifice him.

He was a fool to take him at all—one dragon’s claw was a wound, a second may just start a war. [ she can’t imagine wynn will do any less than throw everything he’s got at the isle with this particular slight in mind. his knights are his family, and they’re meant to protect each other. ]

You assume he intends any less than that. If he's prepared for all Wynn's forces, for what a war could mean for both sides... [Then it wouldn't necessarily have been a bad move. Not that he's particularly pleased that Thomas has been taken. He's just well aware that not all politicians wish to avoid bloodshed.]

Truthfully, I'd rather you were right. A war would at least air it in the open. We could take the isle, show him for what he is. Stop this bloody stand-off.

[ she scowls. ]

Wars are ugly things, but they're more honest than this.

Honest. Not a word I see applied to war very often. [He shakes his head.] Suppose it would end it. One way or the other.

And put an end to all this walking on eggshells we're doing with attempted diplomacy with a madman.

I wouldn't mind being in a straight-forward battle myself. I'm sure the horses could use the exercise.

[It's possible he hasn't updated his idea of war to the 21st century, even if he does know about guns.]

[ alanna got a 12 knowledge check so i'm giving her this one. she stares at him, flummoxed. ]

You don't see a great deal of those in the battle fields of this realm anymore.

[He grimaces as his wis check of 18 catches up to him and he realizes that guns and cars and the like have probably replaced horses there too.]

You would perhaps have an easier time adjusting to this age if you made an attempt.

[ brb imagining jaime with a noose around his neck wow what a stress reliever. ]

It would, perhaps, better suit you.

[Rude.] I simply don’t understand why the men of this world adorn themselves with something better suited to execute criminals.

Perhaps they've finally learned their place.

[ ahaha. alanna needs some drow friends. ]

Mm. Too advanced, perhaps. [ She finishes her wine and sets it aside. ] I can't help but notice that you question your motives and yet remain in my company all the same. Some might call that a sign of insanity.

I question your motives in remaining in my company as well. You don't think you can change me, do you?

Oh, I wouldn’t dream of it.

[ Her nose crinkles in a half-scowl. ]

You won’t be changed. Perhaps I just want to watch you implode in your own stubbornness.
