The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Funny thing like that, parties. A room full of people with all their different lives, all their problems, all coming together to forget them for a bit. Or at least pretend to forget them.

Weddings are the worst for it. Usually ends up coming out by the end of the night.

Oh you'll certainly fit in around here. [She's teasing but it might be a bit sad as well. She's not find of the idea of more people finding it so easy to see the worst parts of a situation.]

Well that'd be a first. [ he laughs slightly. funny old idea that, fitting in. he's never really done that, even before he ran away so long ago ]

Aren't we all trying to forget something?

In part, perhaps. You can't blame me for being curious about our newest members, though. I'm only trying to be friendly. [Only. No, that's not quite right, but the way her smile edges on teasing gives away that she's aware that she's digging into a bit more personal territory.]

Friendly? [ his brow raises, yeah Helen whatever you say ] You have quite a thorough brand of friendly, Doctor Magnus.

What can I say? I try to be the very best at everything I do. I hope you don't consider it rude.

[She has a feeling he doesn't mind. He's still dancing with her, after all.]

Oh I bet you do. [ he smirks a little as he shifts his step. Probably shouldn't be flirting, but then it's almost difficult not to. ]

Well if it is rude you'll just have to make it up to me, won't you?

I could certainly try. But I make no promises, John. I learned my lesson there a very long time ago.

[Oh, he's fun. And her eyes can't help that little mischievous twinkle that she always gets when she teases about her age in some manner. She doesn't hide it amongst the knights but it is fun to not give it away immediately with the new squires.]

Did you really? Pity, that.

[ There's a smile of his own, and really he's supposed to be not-the-Doctor so he can hardly tease back in kind. But it's interesting, isn't it? There's more to her, he's sure of that. So much more. But then there's more to him too. Maybe they're even. ]

Hmm. [She hums in agreement.] It's not an easy lesson to learn, though. I do have a tendency to forget sometimes.

[ He smirks slowly, oh really she's far too much fun, isn't she? ]

Funny that, the things we happen to 'forget' isn't it?

Oh yes. All sorts of things are easy to forget. A lesson, an appointment, a name.

[It's like telling him without telling him. She knows he's not wing honest but she doesn't much care. He doesn't seem dangerous...yet. And she'll keep an eye on him to be certain of that. Yes, that's why she's keeping an eye on him.]

[ He probably shouldn't laugh in a way that makes it quite so obvious that she's got his number, but then he knows when the game is up. Doesn't mean he's about to agree as much, of course. ]

Could be forgotten. Might just be misplaced. Really, it's all the same. [ and an abrupt change of topic ] Quite the dancer, aren't we, Doctor?

Oh, I've learned a few steps over the years. [She's aware that he's changing the subject but not so blunt to guide it back right away. Really, he's nice to talk to. Maybe she just wants to keep doing that for now.]

You seem quite capable of keeping up. Where did you pick it up?

Oh here and there. [ but he's not even trying to play that down, not with the smirk on his face. ] I've been around a while. Surprising what you learn along the way.

Funny, I'm much the same. Tell me, though- are you some sort of elf offshoot, then? It's just... you look quite young, but you claim to have been around 'a while.'

[don't mind her trying to gently pry into your life.]

Elf?! Do I look like an Elf?! [ He's not offended but... Elf. He pauses a moment. ]

Is this a comment about my ears, because honestly they've been much worse in the past.

[Calmly, she turns to point out a few of the other knights- the ones with elven features, then some that don't seem that far off from human.]

You'll find that there are many variations of many races here. Elves are one of the most prominent races with extended life spans. Besides that? Yes, you do a bit. Not the ears, but you're thin like they have a tendency to be, a bit angular in your features. It was a fair assumption, truly.

Different races doesn't mean much to him, and he doesn't seem even slightly fazed by it. So that isn't what he picks up on. No. But rather...

Angled?

His hands come to his face, one on each cheek before pinching his chin. He isn't quite sure what to make of that. He's been called all sorts of things, but never angled.

Her hands reach up to cover his and bring them back down to continue their dance. Really, Doctor- don't be rude.

"I didn't mean anything by it, of course. Just an observation."

He's pouting, really properly pouting.

"Yes but angled?"

Really. Still, oh yes, the dancing, and that's her hands grabbing hold of his, which manages to get his attention much more completely than any comments about the shape of his face. There's soon a smile spreading across his, and his hand returns to her side.

"I tend to make those," he muses. "People don't usually like it."

"Much like you didn't like mine?" Again, just pointing it out. Maybe don't be so sensitive, John. She's just telling it like it is.

"Anyway, I never said they were bad angles, did I? Nothing wrong with sharp features. It's distinct. Memorable."

"Yes maybe," he muses. It's interesting, actually, to be on the other end of it.

A grin starts to overtake any other expression then, a twist in his smile that lights his eyes.

"Oh so you like my angles do you, Doctor?"

"I didn't say that either." But her smile gives away the truth behind it. He's not at all bad to look at. "You are easy to spot in a crowd, though. Might make it easier to steal you for a few more dances over time."

"That a promise, Doctor?" If he seems to be flirting, it's probably because he is. But then there's nothing wrong with a good old flirt, is there? Maybe it's easier too to laugh and joke, when in truth inside he feels like doing anything but.
