The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

The place I lived before the Veil sucked me up? We were sort of a magnet for all things lycan. It was interesting but it was also necessary for... yknow, survival.

And how does a town become a "magnet" for that sort of thing? Was it some kind of curse? Or just a large population of lycan to begin with?

Little of both. A family of heredity werewolves and then a few bitten ones. It's sort of like having mice, I guess. If you've seen one, it means there are a hundred more that you don't know about. And then there's the whole alpha dominance thing. It's basically a supernatural pissing match and our town just happened to be center stage.

And then you happened to fall right into another lycan incursion upon arriving in this world. Sounds a lot like fate. [ but she smiles, as she clearly doesn't view that as a bad thing. ] Those whose lives you saved, they were lucky you were there.

I was just happy to help. That's what I told your buddies when they found me. I guess something about that made them think I was knightly material.

I think everything about that makes your knightly material.

You really think so?

Of course. Your only reward for putting yourself in danger, because it was the right thing to do, was knowing you were able to make a difference in even just one or two people's lives. That's very noble of you, and quite brave.

Would you mind repeating that to... Well, everyone I've ever known since third grade. But especially her? [he points out Lydia across the room. it's like the most not subtle way to subtly point someone out too. exaggerated head gesturing is happening.]

[ she laughs, following his gaze briefly ] Perhaps it'd go over better if you had a chance to prove it to them yourself.

I don't know if you missed the ceremony, but I have this stellar habit of making an ass out of myself. [But he does it with style]

Well, every hero faces hiccups along the way. It's a lot of pressure to be put on parade like that. [ she leans in a bit as if divulging some terrible secret ] I wasn't so graceful either at my squiring ceremony.

Oh yeah? [The corners of his mouth turn up slightly into a smile.] Was it bad?

I doubt anyone remembers it now, so it couldn't have been that bad, right? [ this too shall pass son ]

Depends on how long ago it was. [There were squires of all ages in this batch, after all.] But I see where you're going with this.

It's true most who were there are no longer alive. [ she gives him the 'you got me' grin, but it softens quickly ] However, you've been given a chance to reinvent yourself, to focus on what you want to be and how you desire others to perceive you. Of course, no one wants to change everything about themselves, but you can bring forth the parts of yourself you like the most.

Like the ala cart version of a personality. [But he's thoughtful about it for a few moments.] You know if I wasn't already sold on the whole Knight thing, you'd have the perfect pitch for it.

That's sort of my niche: diplomacy, negotiation, persuasion. Skills I carried over with me from the other world that I've honed and, dare say, close to perfected while in this one.

Dare to say it. Because I'm seconding it. Perfected pretty much covers it. [he's sort of jealous okay.]

[ she smiles genuinely b/c compliments are always nice ] You're too sweet.

Nah, just honest. And maybe sucking up a little in hopes that I don't end up getting hazed. Do they haze here? Seems potentially dangerous, considering all the medieval themes. Of all the racks a teenage guy hopes to see? That's one I could do without becoming intimately familiar with.

[ she chuckles, clearly amused with the analogy, and there's a mischievous twinkle in her eye as she says: ] I suppose that depends on who you're squired to.

Koraith! [And he grins at that.] Pretty sure a half dragon is about the coolest thing I've ever seen.
