The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Stiles in the meantime is still trying desperately to remember and has backed up to the nearest wall and slides down it, because this is really hard to reconcile.]

I remember everything, just not who I was with. Like that part of my brain got censored. They FCC'd my best friend.

[ she steps closer as his back hits the wall, concern suddenly building in her voice. ]

Stiles, calm down; you are freaking me out. [ she holds her hands out in front of her in a sort of placating, settle down gesture, glancing between him and the rest of the party like what do. ] It wasn't a 'they.' It was the Veil. They didn't explain this to you?

No- No, they did, but... I mean it seemed like little stuff before. My name was like some kind of joke. And when I try to think about my childhood, everything gets weird and fuzzy when I try to remember who my father is... was. I don't know. But I remember my mom dying, so I guess I'm just used to that feeling that something's missing, but-

[He takes a deep breath and looks up at her.]

You remember, though. Right? Can you... I don't know. Tell me about him?

About Scott?

[ she glances around, a silent, incredulous question of here?? but she looks back down at stiles and sets her cup aside on the table, crouching down by him and settling on her knees, sitting on her heels. ]

Okay. [ she takes a breath, eyes searching like now that stiles is freaking out she's not really sure where to start. ] Um. He's ... Last year, he got bitten by a werewolf. And, after he turned into one, they made him co-captain of the lacrosse team. With Jackson. [ remembering jackson makes her shift her weight a little, wiggling before settling back down. ] He, uh. He lives with his mom. I don't know what happened to his dad.

Melissa. [Why can he remember that but not Scott?] Shes a nurse. She used to- After my mom died, she helped. Me and my- [But he can't really remember his father either bye knows he had one but the actual details of that person are gone.]

Is it not weird like this for you?

I haven't given it a lot of thought.

[ she keeps her deflection simple, though there’s really no masking it as anything but that. lydia hasn’t been overly concerned with the state of her memories because she’s spent much more time freaking out about the dead bodies she woke up to. good luck trying to bleach that from your brain.

[Stiles realizes quickly that she's hiding something, or something isn't entirely okay (wis 19 crying about it). They've both landed in a strange place and been plunked down in some crazy hero organization. Are they in over their heads? Possibly. More likely him than her.

But he knows better than to bring that up, to question if she's okay. He'll just worry silently and nod to her question.]

That's what I thought. [ she doesn't really bother not acting like a know-it-all anymore. it's refreshing. at the same time, in this case, her know-it-all behavior also involves feeling smug that she was right about someone not really wanting to pry into how she's coping, so. awkward. that probably says something about lydia's estimation of the altruism of others. ]

A few weeks ago, when school started back up, he convinced Derek to help him get this hideous tattoo. Allison broke up with him at the end of the year but they both act like they've completely forgotten that ever happened. Oh, and he works for that veterinarian. Doctor Deaton?

Deaton. Yeah. We were... The last thing I remember before was being at Deaton's place. [His eyes roam the floor for a moment, as if searching for an answer, then he finally drifts his gaze to her.] You were pushing me into a tub of ice.

Don't get me wrong: I do sometimes get the urge. [ she points a finger in his direction matter-of-factly. ] Well, not ice specifically, but—[ general shutting him up, one way or another. she arches her eyebrows, lips briefly pursing into a flat line as she shakes her head. ] That never happened.

I'm pretty sure I'd know if I made that up. Plus I think that would count as the world's most fucked up nightmare.

[ LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT LAST SEMESTER AND LYDIA'S FUCKED UP PETER HALE NIGHTMARES. let's not talk about them because her look is pretty judgmentally challenging his statement on exactly those grounds. ]

No, it happened. It was some ritual that Deaton needed us to do to find-- [He sort of drifts off because the fact that his main reason for doing that ritual has to do with a father he can no longer remember? That makes it all a little foggy.] It happened. I ended up in Argentina soaked and freezing. I'm not making it up.

The veterinarian performed a ritual with an ice bath.

[ let's just say that out loud and see if stiles holds his position on how ~this definitely happened.~ ]

Okay, when you put it like that. And Deaton's not exactly your run of the mill local vet, okay. [He sighs and rubs at his forehead.] Don't you think- I mean, I forgot my own best friend. Isn't it possible that you forgot about the ritual?

[ ugh this is ridiculous why is she caving don't humor it lydia don't—]

Okay. Let's pretend, for a moment, that Veil-induced amnesia is an explanation: what was this ritual for, exactly?

There was a druid. A bad druid. Sacrifices were happening all over town and we were trying to get back-- [The problem here is that his main motivation for that ritual was his father and he can't remember that guy, so it's all foggy.]

You really don't remember any of this?

Does it sound like I'm joking? [ seriously stiles, what? she grabs a napkin off the refreshments table and dabs it in punch. ] Allow me to answer your question with an update. [ she uses the punch to rub concealer off her forearm, exposing a bruise. ] The last weird thing I remember happening was the day before I got here. Allison thinks that girl at the school was trying to give us a message about some bank. [ she holds the bruise out. ] So, when Scott gets here, you can tell him—[ well. stiles won't remember him. she huffs. ] Forget it. I'll tell him myself. We were right, and Derek can just shove that bank right up his—[ please end this rant. ]

You were right. [He jumps in, partly to agree and partly to try to stop her ranting so she doesn't work herself up as end up pissed at him by proxy.] You're always right about those things. Derek should have listened. He was an idiot not to.

[Rubbing a hand through his hair, Stiles sighs.]

What about this place? Any weird feelings? Are we in over our heads here?

[ o-oh. that snaps her jaw shut quickly, staggered by the lack of hesitation and how glowing that confidence is. she stares at him for a moment longer with slightly widened eyes before straightening and squaring her shoulders. she’s got this. don’t act like it matters. conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know. ]

I’m feeling a little weird that you’re asking me that. Do I look psychic to you?

Whoa- okay. Deja vu. We've had this conversation. As in... almost this exact conversation, but we already figured that out. I think. Maybe. [Don't sound so confident there, bub. Stiles waves a hand to push those less than sure sounding words away.]

...You're a banshee. That's what Jennifer told you and we're still trying to figure out what that really means, but... You're saying you don't remember any of that? [He realizes that she mentioned the bank. This was after that. So maybe everything after that was taken by the Veil? That was... incredibly inconvenient.] God, this is such a mess.

Ignoring the obvious insult, since when are you on a first-name basis with our English teacher? [ seriously what. (how else is she supposed to take 'you're a banshee'?) ]

Since she started perform sacrificial rituals with our friends and family as the aforementioned sacrifices. I figure it's nicer to use her name than 'that crazy bitch.'

... Sacrifices? [ YOU CAN'T JUST DROP THAT BOMB. ] Stiles, sacrifices mean people are dead. Who's dead? [ her family and friends ??? omg she just finally started caring about you people; you're all fired. ]

Virgins. [IT WAS A SCARY TIME FOR HIM OKAY.] But later it was all kinds of people. Melissa. [which he knows but not as Scott's mom. And that's weird.] Allison's dad. We were trying to find them, to stop her, but I ended up here instead.

[The ramifications of this are a bit terrifying.]
