The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Probably depends on how much you have to find out about. Some people come here without a past at all.

You could have just said "some people don't remember much" but you said not at all. [ she shrugs and points to will. ] That's my... That's Will, he's like my dad. Except he doesn't remember everything I remember. I understand complicated dad memory stuff.

Does he... remember you?

Not everything, but... most of the important stuff. Not much of the bad things. [ she touches her throat briefly, eyes falling to the table and she folds her hands in front of her. ] It's probably better that way. I don't want to remember.

[ she notices the throat touch but... has fucking tact, ok ] I won't ask, then.

But I do. Even if I don't want to, I still remember. That's not very fair. [ her eyebrows furrow a little in confusion and annoyance. ]

I guess no matter our lot was, it's gonna sound better to be on the other side.

Do you want him to be your dad? Even if you don't remember growing up with him.

Him specifically, or--?

Both. [ her shoulders lift in a brief shrug. she's probably the worst person to give advice about parents, fathers in particular. ]

I don't... not want him to be.

Maybe. [ she pauses, choosing her words carefully, a little line appearing between her eyebrows as she thinks. ] Maybe if you get to know him outside of that context, just one knight to another. [ she pauses again briefly, just wondering if jaina is a knight or still a squire. ] Maybe it would help you make a decision later. They say you can't pick your family, but you actually can.

And what am I supposed to do with him if I decide not to pick him?

Well, if you like him, he could be a friend, at least, And if you don't, you get to ask him to leave you alone. Maybe talk to Wynn so you don't have to be assigned to missions together.

[ she glances over at will quickly. she doesn't even know what they are, there's probably not a name for it, but she doesn't know he is the closest she's going to get to a dad and the one she would choose if she had the chance. that's enough for her and she knows it's important. her gaze turns back to jaina with a sad kind of smile. ] If he's really your dad he'll support you no matter what, even if he doesn't like it. And if he doesn't support you, you probably made the right choice.

I spent a lot of time with psychiatrists.

Psychiatrists? [ she catches on quickly that it might be lost in translation thing so she elaborates in the simplest terms. ] Brain doctor?

[ sure. that works. ]

Like a therapist, or a neurosurgeon?

Don't think we have many of those around here.

No, I wouldn't think so. But maybe there should be. Cognitive therapy would probably be good for some people.
