It's been over a hundred years since mankind first came to a global realization that magic and monsters were real and walked among us. Yet in all that time, much about the process of how or why remains a mystery, and a subject of great speculation among scholars the world over.

This is why London hosts an annual convention to discuss these complicated matters, both from a scientific and social perspective. There's something for everyone with even a passing interest in understanding the Veil, magic, or the various races that share this world. Sir Jeanne Gar, a young member of the Dragon's Hoard, has been asked to present some of her research at said convention, and has invited many of the Knights to come fill the seats, and explore the other lectures.

The hall is large and brimming with scholars both young and ancient, as well as those of a variety of unusual Shadowkind species.  It makes for great people watching from the food court, at least.

[ you always roll twos when my ladies are dropping eaves. abigail is only half paying attention, as she do, but her attention is caught when he says "results". it's one of those catch words you pick up when you live in a psychiatric hospital. ...what test? ...what operations? okay, now she is genuinely interested in this one sides conversation, but she doesn't move closer, just rubs the back of her neck and strains her ears. ]

I expect I'll hear about it, if all goes according to plan. You're staying in New York until it's done? [ at that moment, a tall statuesque blonde with unusual features steps out and he pauses to look up at her. she signals to him with a nod that it's time to go in, glancing down the hall, but not really paying any heed to abigail either. ] Very well. I've got to go.

Don't disappoint me, Greenwall. I've had enough of that lately. [ with that, he hangs up ]

[ what's happening in new york????? abigail replays it all in her head, trying to retain the pertinent information before she stands and hurries back to her seat next to will. and idk probably other people. ] Will, what do you know about the Church of the Lord's Humanity? I might have just spied on that guy speaking. [ a beat. ] Habit.

[ mark is on her other side i guess. hi. ]

You mean the Church that preaches about how Shadowkind are inferior to humans by God's word? [ :/ ] What was he talking about?

[mydesigns]

[ EXCUSE U MARK SHE ASKED WILL. he looks over at her with a furrowed brow —he's a little surprised, but it's not completely unexpected, considering who is giving this lecture.] Nothing good. They preach Shadowkind inferiority. Like what we were talking about earlier. Anti-Shadowkind movements born out of Christian bitterness. [(knowledge: current events (??) 18) or 17 for general wis idk.] What did you hear?

[ SHE DOESNT KNOW YOU MARK!!! but idk she must have seen him around because she recognizes him enough to not be like please go away so she answers mark too even though she's basically a daddy's girl. ]

That they were doing a test tonight, in New York, and if it was successful they could easily rally support for their... operations. He was talking to someone called Decker or Greenwall. And there was a woman with him, sort of. She told him to come back inside. [ even if blondie was in the room, abigail wouldn't be able to find her. (spot 4) she sounds appropriately concerned/confused. ]

What did she look like?

[rationalizes]

Decker Greenwall? [ gar leans around mark to join this convo too ] What kind of test? [ / BARRAGE OF QUESTIONS ]

[ she looks at will helplessly before struggling to answer both questions, fingers tensing into loose fists. ] I guess so? He didn't say what, presumably because Decker was already aware. He said something about some guy being the best they had and that Decker was staying in New York until it was done. And the woman was blonde. And tall... [ yep a++ description there, abidoodle. ] She looked... different. [ super specific, isn't she? ]

[ will nods, urging her on when she looks at him. it's ok bb gurl. and then he does a quick scan of the room — if uma thurman is anywhere to be seen, there's a good chance will spots her. (spot 24) ]

Oh! He said he'd had plenty of disappointments lately. Like if Decker's guy messed up it would just be another to add to the list. [ her shoulders sag a little. that's it, that's all she knows. ]

[mindmaster]

[ the mind master is actually just walking in, glancing around the room, her eyes raking across the front row, specifically at kat, gar, and mark 8|

she stands aside while draken crombe marches in behind her, heading up to the podium. folding her arms, she positions herself against the side wall, watching. ]

[shootfirst]

[ kat is sitting next to gar and notices the mind master over there, exchanging a Look with the other failboaters, and also violently elbowing gar to nod in that direction ] No fucking way. [ and then, processing what abigail is saying she leans over and hisses: ] New York, tonight? Isn't that where everybody else is at?

[theminotaur]

[ abigail is not dumb, she knows she stumbled into a big fucking deal. ] ...who's everyone else? [ she assumes knights, duh, but that's such a strange way to phrase it because there are just so many knights. ]

[ oh hey, francesca's been here all along too, and she'd be sitting near people she knows, especially in this kind of crowd :|

she's glancing between the knights beside her and crombe up in the front, concern etching her brow. ] Yes. Who precisely is everyone else?

Myri and Finnick were accompanying Violet, Luthir, and the O'Keefes... and Tia, Spike, Archer, Rose, and Klaus were attending the Keijen Blade concert there.

What a foreboding coincidence. [ she's being facetious b/c it doesn't sound like coincidence at all :| however, she's good at keeping the panic from her voice (will 27). ]

New York's a big city. [there. he did his best to comfort all y'all random strangers. it was mostly for francesca tho. but since he keeps facing forward and his voice stays pretty monotone, who even knows that's what he was trying to do??]

And these guys are big-time assholes. Not really putting much past them.

[ draken crombe moves to the podium, removing his gloves and setting them on top of a book there as he rakes one hand through his long dark hair. he glances over the assembled for a moment without looking at anyone in particular, before pulling the mic front and center, and planting one hand on either side of the podium. ] Good evening, and thank you for your enthusiastic turn out today. I'm glad to see so many in the academic community taking seriously the dangers that we face in this age of incursion.

[ as skilled as francesca is at hiding her concern, she makes no attempt to conceal her revulsion at crombe's very existence, his words leaving a foul expression on her face ]

[ abigail recognizes a sole one of those names and she glances at will with a confused expression. ] Myri was the one who was kidnapped by the doppelgänger. [ she looks up at the guy speaking. ] Shouldn't... we tell someone?

With [ backwards b/c arden is stupid ] time zones, they'll already be in the middle of their missions.

[ luckily, this is all happening within arden's reality, so screw time zones x( ] We don't even know what to warn them about.

[ crombe's still talking up there too ] -- hardly a need to point out what is common fare for the daily papers, but traffic through the Veil has brought to our shores monsters and species who arrive in our world disoriented, angry, and often hostile and resistant to any attempts at diplomacy. The sporadic nature of Veil travel makes it impossible to police this traffic, and so we find our world full to bursting with dangers that we are often unequipped to face.
