In less than twenty-four hours, everything has turned on its head.

A Knight and her allies were kidnapped by Iscariot agents for execution in Rome, barely escaping with their lives.

A mission meant to free one Knight from the influence of a dark god succeeded - at the price of another's life.

A simple recon mission at a Keijen Blade concert nearly led to two Knights committing mind-controlled suicide in front of an eager crowd.

Several Knights went to see Draken Crombe, leader of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, speak in person, and learned just how sinister his religion's dogma is.

A call from Sir Hathaway alerted Wynn to the escape of the doppelganger from the Knight's dungeons, an escape perhaps aided by Elena Gilbert.

A demigod interrupted what might have been a simple smash and grab retrieval of an artifact.

And most horrific of all, in the middle of the night, hundreds of Shadowkind in New York City awoke, and walked in a mindless trance down to the Hudson River to drown themselves. Only the quick thinking and combined efforts of the Knights present and their allies prevented all of them from succeeding.

Beset on all sides, a dark time awaits for the Knighthood - who were already suffering from the capture of Dragon's Claw Sir Thomas Bancroft at the hands of their long time enemy Dimitris Sarandis of Andres Isle.

In times such as these, the light can be difficult to find. Hope itself seems somewhere just out of reach.

Nope. I've never met her. You're squired to her friend though, aren't you? Has she ever talked about her?

[Knowledge check nat 20 so apparently he knows...that for some reason.]

Squired, past tense. And to do that, she would have had to talk to me, ever. Until recently, we didn't communicate much.

[And then I only just saw her knighting ceremony going through collecting threads for xp oops I guess he...momentarily forgot it happened?]

Since she was with that group that's always gone? Still, that's lame. [Frowny face.] You clearly did fine without her, though.

She was pretty quick to pass me through, once she made it back here. Didn't seem to need to hear much.

Hey, I've seen you in action. She didn't need to.

[Besides, they eventually promoted him, too, and he's mostly just a terrible meat shield on these missions lbr.]

Totally her loss.

It's been better, now that we're sectmates. We actually... communicate.

[cuivre]

That's good at least. I mean, it sounds like those guys have had a hell of a time, not that that's an excuse.

I haven't heard a lot about it, other than this... doppelganger mess.

[cuivre]

The never ending doppelganger mess. Should have ended when they locked it up in the first place.

I don't know details either, only that it's been a long ass mission by the sounds of it. Anything that takes that long has to be messy.

[flyingsolo]

It must feel weird for them to even be back here.

[cuivre]

I can see that. It must kind of suck being away more than here. Could end up happening to any one of us though, I guess.

I'd miss my ride.

[cuivre]

Yeah, me too. Gotta go where the boss says though, yeah?

[flyingsolo]

Maybe I could sweet talk him into letting me bring it along.

[cuivre]

[Miles chuckles at the image of anyone sweet-talking Wynn into anything.]

You'll have to give me a head's up. I'd love to see that.

I didn't say it would be a successful attempt. Tell me - is the stubbornness a dragon blood thing?

[cuivre]

Naw, I don't think so. Maybe it depends on the dragon. I'm kinda new to the whole thing myself.

[flyingsolo]

You mean you didn't know what you were?

[cuivre]

Nope. Got it from my mother's side, and she died a long time ago. Not even sure how far away I am, generation's wise. Pretty far, I'm guessing.

[flyingsolo]

Was it the lack of scales that gave it away?

[cuivre]

Naw, I've a few of those. I just keep 'em covered up out of habit.

[He gestures vaguely at his back, where they'd be covered by his shirt.]

My Dad always used to tell me it was some weird skin condition, and you know how kids are. They'll believe anything. After that, well, denial's a pretty powerful thing.

So when did you find out the truth?

[cuivre]

When I first heard about it and when I actually bothered to care or believe it are two totally different things. I was a couple years out of high school when my Grams decided she had to talk to me. I thought she was nuts.

It took another half a decade before I finally figured out that she was right.
