In less than twenty-four hours, everything has turned on its head.

A Knight and her allies were kidnapped by Iscariot agents for execution in Rome, barely escaping with their lives.

A mission meant to free one Knight from the influence of a dark god succeeded - at the price of another's life.

A simple recon mission at a Keijen Blade concert nearly led to two Knights committing mind-controlled suicide in front of an eager crowd.

Several Knights went to see Draken Crombe, leader of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, speak in person, and learned just how sinister his religion's dogma is.

A call from Sir Hathaway alerted Wynn to the escape of the doppelganger from the Knight's dungeons, an escape perhaps aided by Elena Gilbert.

A demigod interrupted what might have been a simple smash and grab retrieval of an artifact.

And most horrific of all, in the middle of the night, hundreds of Shadowkind in New York City awoke, and walked in a mindless trance down to the Hudson River to drown themselves. Only the quick thinking and combined efforts of the Knights present and their allies prevented all of them from succeeding.

Beset on all sides, a dark time awaits for the Knighthood - who were already suffering from the capture of Dragon's Claw Sir Thomas Bancroft at the hands of their long time enemy Dimitris Sarandis of Andres Isle.

In times such as these, the light can be difficult to find. Hope itself seems somewhere just out of reach.

My magic's changing. It's not only healing spells. Something came out of your dream world while you were all still in there. [A creature born of suicidal thoughts. Sob.] And I... This beam of light shot from my hand. I think I hurt it somehow.

If I had known, I could have fought with you. You needed us, Vi. I just wish I could have done something.

[graveflowers]

Myri. [ she turns a little to face her, brushing her pale hair back and looking at her sadly. she doesn't want myri to feel any guilt over this, she knows how crippling it is. ] Luthir was gone. A shadow. We're light, we couldn't have helped him.

[witchwoman]

[Vi isn't supposed to be comforting her. That's not how this works. Myri takes a breath and shakes her head.]

I know. It just doesn't seem fair.

[graveflowers]

It's not. It never is. [ it's almost fitting, though, that vi is comforting her. life and death are so intertwined in her life. ]

But death is inevitable, it's just part of life. Everything that he was is still in the world. His smile is in the little dust motes you can see in the sunshine. The way he held my hand is the grass in the shade on a hot day. Luthir is gone, but everything he was part of is still here. And people that die never really leave, 'cause death ends life, not love.

[witchwoman]

You're the strongest person I know. [It's been... a day? Maybe two since everything happened? And Vi could say something like that? Myri isn't sure that she would ever be able to say something so profound, and even less certain that she could ever believe it.] I love you. [Because it seems important to say now.]

[graveflowers]

I love you, too. [ she leans over to kiss myri's cheek. ] Nothing can change that.

[witchwoman]

I hope that's true. [Part of her will always be worried that one day they'll blame her for someone dying. But she's trying her best not to think about that. She wants to be there for Vi, not wallow in her own feelings.] Have you decided when you're going to tell the others about... [She trails off and touches her own stomach. So discrete.]

[graveflowers]

I'm not. [ well, that was kind of blunt but she doesn't want to talk about it on the plane where eavesdropping is incredible easy of dean and new girl's sexcapades are any indication. ] No one else needs to know. [ she recognizes she's being kind of short so she explains her brain to myri a little. ] Especially not now with everything else going on. [ she leans closer to lower her voice. ] And not on the plane where everyone can hear us. [ or at least spike. she doesn't need spike knowing the state of her fucking uterus. ]

[witchwoman]

Oh. [She looks around at the rest of the plane.] Right. [She shifts in her seat, a little uncomfortable with how she's done the wrong thing. Again.] I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-. [Why is comforting so much harder now? She wants to go back to when she had a better handle on how to be... well, herself.]

[graveflowers]

It's okay. [ and it is, vi doesn't mind. she just really doesn't want anyone to know that doesn't have to. she doesn't even know how she feels about it yet. she doesn't want to field condolences and congratulations at the same time. she heard one congrats and them luthir died, she doesn't want to hear anymore when she's not happy about it. ] I just... people are already going to look at me with pity. I can't bear more of it.

[witchwoman]

[She nods, understanding because there was some of that when she first got back. Pity and guilt- and she had wanted that to stop very quickly once it began.] If I ever look at you like that too much, tell me? I'm going to try not to.

[graveflowers]

Everyone will. At least I can control how much pity I get. And... [ she shrugs, eyes filling with tears. ] It might not last. It doesn't always. People lose them all the time, there's no point counting chickens before they hatch or whatever that phrase is.

[ it's really hard to explain waiting until later in pregnancy to say anything when she's trying not to say pregnancy. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri isn't really sure if that's what Vi wants, or if she's preparing herself for the worst. But instead of guessing, Myri just reaches out and laces her fingers with Vi's and gives her hand a gentle squeeze.]

Whatever happens. I'm here.

[graveflowers]

I know. [ she squeezes myri's hand back, leaning against her. ] I couldn't ever have asked for a better sister. The Stargods didn't just bring you to the Knights, they brought you to me. And I'm always going to be grateful for that.

[witchwoman]

Of course they did. They knew you needed me. And that I needed you.

[graveflowers]

They're really good. [ vi is a fan of them. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri hums her agreement and stays leaned against Vi. Focusing on the good things, having each other is easier than trying to fix the bad things.]

[ and a few minutes later... zzzzzzzz. nini, sis. it's good though, the only decent sleep she gets is with myri or finnick. or luthir. :( ]
