In less than twenty-four hours, everything has turned on its head.

A Knight and her allies were kidnapped by Iscariot agents for execution in Rome, barely escaping with their lives.

A mission meant to free one Knight from the influence of a dark god succeeded - at the price of another's life.

A simple recon mission at a Keijen Blade concert nearly led to two Knights committing mind-controlled suicide in front of an eager crowd.

Several Knights went to see Draken Crombe, leader of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, speak in person, and learned just how sinister his religion's dogma is.

A call from Sir Hathaway alerted Wynn to the escape of the doppelganger from the Knight's dungeons, an escape perhaps aided by Elena Gilbert.

A demigod interrupted what might have been a simple smash and grab retrieval of an artifact.

And most horrific of all, in the middle of the night, hundreds of Shadowkind in New York City awoke, and walked in a mindless trance down to the Hudson River to drown themselves. Only the quick thinking and combined efforts of the Knights present and their allies prevented all of them from succeeding.

Beset on all sides, a dark time awaits for the Knighthood - who were already suffering from the capture of Dragon's Claw Sir Thomas Bancroft at the hands of their long time enemy Dimitris Sarandis of Andres Isle.

In times such as these, the light can be difficult to find. Hope itself seems somewhere just out of reach.

[Tension radiates through her body, Rose's jaw locking in place and she shifts in her seat, looking very pointedly out the window.]

She's still Elena. [Though there is a little doubt in her voice.]

[bigbad]

Yeah. But I'm starting to think we might not know her as well as we thought we did.

[littledhampir]

[All the tension rushes out of Rose, leaving her features fallen and a pained expression ripples her face before she can force the mask back into place.]

'guess we'll work it out when we find her. [A little more quiet now.] Assuming she even wants to be found.

[She was pretty sure that all the tracking in the world wasn't going to mean a thing if two Doppelgangers really did want to disappear for good.]

[bigbad]

Somehow, I doubt she'd've run if she wanted to be found. Might have to accept that she's gone for good.

[littledhampir]

Maybe she doesn't... But I don't much care what she wants anymore and she can't run forever.

[bigbad]

Maybe. [But she can look like anyone in the world. There's no reason she ever has to look or act like the Elena they know. He's far from convinced they'll ever see her again.] But if she tries, we'll have a hell of a time chasing her.

[littledhampir]

Probably. [She's not doubting it'll be hard, she just honestly thinks in a game of outlast, she can win. Whether she can or not? Who knows. For Rose this is more about Kyp than Elena.]

But I made a promise and I plan to keep it.

[bigbad]

[Welp. That was a nat 20 wis check. It almost sounds like she's talking about a promise to Elena, her friend, but Spike can see a little too much tension there for it to be that.]

You want to kill Kyp.

[littledhampir]

[Her gaze turned troubled, brow furrowed, like she was taking the time to really think about that question before answering.]

I want him to pay. I want him to rot in some cell and never see the light of day again. I want him to suffer but if I can't have that? Then you bet I want to kill him.

[bigbad]

And what do you want for Elena?

[littledhampir]

[She's silent for a long time before answering and even then, hesitant to speak.]

I don't know... Right now I just want to know why.

[bigbad]

They were friends, you know. Or something close to it. Before everything.

[littledhampir]

Friends don't do what he did. He's not capable of being anyone's friend.

[bigbad]

She thought he was.

[littledhampir]

What, you think that's why she did it? [Clearly not buying it as a good enough reason.]

[bigbad]

I think it made her more likely to make foolish bloody decisions. Despite everything.

[littledhampir]

[Lines crease her brow, expression tight.]

Yeah but this wasn't just foolish. Foolish would have been trying to get Wynn to let him go but she didn't even do that. She skipped straight to betraying her family.

[bigbad]

Wynn would never have let him go. Not when he knows so many of our secrets. Elena would know that.

[littledhampir]

Which is exactly why she shouldn't have done what she did but apparently the lives of the Knights don't matter as much as the freedom of one psychopath.
