On the eve of battle, an impressive array of Knights gathers in the Round Table room of the castle. The usually cavernous room seems tightly packed with this many bodies, and places at the Table are reserved for Wynn, the Section Heads, all those who have had any hand in the Talisman mission, including New York, and Christos, but who's going to argue with him, really. The air buzzes with a mixture of impending dread and on some fronts, excitement. It's hard to deny that there are those in the room who have wanted to make a move on Andres for years.

Wynn waits for the appointed hour, before nodding for the doors to be sealed and calling the meeting to order.

"Before we begin, I'd like to thank each and every one of you, many who have traveled an extensive distance at a moment's notice to join us here today. I understand that many of you have little idea what you have agreed to, but I hope that before the end of this meeting, you will come to understand what we are doing, and why it must be done.

Andres' Isle has been held under the sway of the man who calls himself their "Prime Minister" for nearly a decade. In these ten years, he has turned what was once an idyllic country steeped in tradition into a tightly controlled fascist nation disguised as representative of its people.

Andres is far from the only country to fall to such a fate over the course of history, and it has never been the prerogative of this Knighthood to enforce our own personal vision of some sort of world order onto any nation. We are protectors of justice, and our enemy has always been both that which comes from the darkest depths of Shadow, and intolerance and prejudice that stems from this world.

But Dimitris Sarandis has proven to be an exception, an embodiment of all the ideals we stand against, who has aspired to systematize the kind of violence and hatred that threatens the welfare of countless innocents under his rule. He has used his position to exploit Shadowkind on the island to the point of conducting torturous experiments on them, designed to help him accomplish his goal of forcibly enslaving non-humans, so that they may serve what he sees as the superior race of homo sapiens.

As if this were not enough, Dimitris knows of our existence, and wishes to tear down our organization, understanding that we pose a threat to all he seeks to accomplish. To this end, he has conspired against us, kidnapped members of our organization and subjected them to brutal and vile torture, and attempted to blackmail us through detaining Sir Thomas Bancroft and now Sir Samcelot, into complying with his whims - to leave his regime alone entirely, to turn over our most ancient, powerful artifact, and for me to submit to death at his hand.

Killing Dimitris alone will not stop the system he has created, and will not help free the people of Andres. Most citizens of the country remain innocent, terrified into compliance, or completely ignorant of what Sarandis does behind closed doors. These people deserve our help, and the only way to do so is to show them the evil that lurks at the heart of their government, gain their support in uprooting that evil, and assist them in stabilizing their country thereafter.

To do this, we will need to go beyond the usual parameters of our missions, with a militant, strategic push into the island designed to seize the castle, and take down Sarandis' rule." He pauses there, letting that sink in. "What I will not stand for is a callous attitude towards the innocents who we seek to protect on the Island, during this insurgency. Their safety will be paramount to our operation, and as such, speed is important to what we will be accomplishing. Dimitris expects retaliation, but he also underestimates our tactics. As such, rather than attacking the castle with an army, you will be deployed about the Island in a number of small teams, each with an objective that will help us cut off Dimitris from contact with his supporters, secure Sir Bancroft and Sir Samcelot's safety, free those who are imprisoned, and confront Sarandis, taking the castle in the process.

Details of these individual operations not withstanding, I imagine there are some questions. I open the floor to you to speak."

Yeah, yeah. [Faye is on auto pilot heading for Lissa's room, because slipping away to her room for some feel good bite time is almost normal. Plus they hang even without blood letting. Reaching for the door, she opens it because who locks their room on their way to a war council??]

I could so take you in a fight.

No, you could not. [ she's nearly laughing now, from the fleeting normalcy in the middle of everything else. ] You wouldn't dare.

[Fayes only response to that is a knowing lift of her eyebrows and a smirk as she enters Lissa's room and shuts the door behind them.]

Guess you're lucky I find you less irritating than other people. [By that she means thanks for being my friend.

Faye pulls her hair to one side, smoothing the dark strands, running her fingers through.]

You really should buy me dinner first. [She jokes, as if she's at all complaining about this.]

Such compliments, you sure know how to woo a lady. [ but she's still smiling, as she moves forward, her hand replacing faye's to brush her dark hair aside. for a moment, her composure crumbles as the reasons why she needs to feed hit her like a mack truck, but she disguises it by darting in quickly, swift and neat as ever, the sharp pinprick of fangs before bliss.

its much briefer than normal since faye doesn't need to be in a state of euphoria when she should be focused on the missions at hand, but lissa can feel the spirit coiling in her chest so when she pulls back she is just has satisfied. ]

I'll buy you dinner when we come home.

[ohhhhhhh yeah... Faye lets out her standard gasp as the good feelings wash over her. She could almost forget all the bad stuff. The war. The conversation with Alex. Mostly the second one because she's still pretty self involved. When Lissa pulls back, Faye just nods.]

Yeah, definitely. You owe me.

[ she laughs softly, wiping her lips delicately to brush away any remainders of blood. ]

I really do.

[ and she doesn't seem to mind. faye has never been a bad person to owe, at least not to lissa. she leans forward and takes faye's hand to squeeze it gently. ]

[Faye still isn't completely used to this, being friends with someone like Lissa. It was easier with people like Lila and Astrid. Hell, even Emma could toss back sarcasm, give as good as she got. Lissa wasn't like that. She had her own brand of sass, definitely, but she was gentle, kind. She was good in a way that Faye had trouble fully comprehending. It was confusing to the point of frustration sometimes, why someone like Lissa would want to be anywhere around here, let alone actually consider her a friend.]

Be careful out there, okay?

[They won't be able to keep in contact. And Faye doubts that Lissa would think to call her first if there was trouble. She'd call Max, so Faye would have to trust that some guy she's never met would get the job done and keep the girl safe.]

Of course. You too. I need my best friend to come back safe and sound. [ she smiles briefly, fondly, and releases faye's hands only to lean forward to hug her tightly. it's quick and tight and when she lets go, she kisses faye's cheek and bounds off with that otherworldly grace.

she's only escaping quickly so faye can't say no to being lissa's best friend.

too bad, you lose, it's happening. ]

[ AND THEN TO RUIN THE MOMENT...

gus comes in like the kool-aid man.

jk, he finds faye as she's leaving and turning down the hallway and he just moves forward to loop his arm around her shoulders like it's nothing. she's an amazon, but gus is still taller so it's easy, she fits right under his arm. ]

Faye doesn't really know how to handle this information. Being Lila's best friend made sense. They were both terrible people. Lissa was good. Really good. Lawful Good, actually.

She barely makes it out of her room before Gus shows up and is basically the last person she wants to see because guess who he reminds her of???

That guy they both have fooled around with that she just figured out was no good for her even though she still has intense feelings for... yay...]

[ still acting casual as fuck. nbd. not impending doom or anything. nope. nothing doing. ]

Never better. [She quips, not even trying to hide how much of a lie that is. Like are you serious? Do you do drugs? Oh wait...

And then without warning because she's been squinting at him ever since Vi's wedding and has irrational teenage feelings.]

[ teenagers. ]

[ he looks hella confused. ]

Alex? [Said in a tone like duh, asshole. It doesn't cross her mind that he would approach her for anything else. She's a bit too wound up in her own broken hearted emotions. Even if it had been her call to save herself from later pain, it still hurts now. It still sucks.]

Alex? [ he snorts. ] Faye, I don't want your boyfriend. I've had your boyfriend and stealing him from you is not my aim.

[ he's also just 100% sure that faye never had him to begin with. ]

He's not my... [She lets out a frustrated huff.] He never was.

[oh look. a 9 on a will save. her voice cracks and she shakes her head to try to shake off her emotions. too bad it all literally just fucking happened.]

It doesn't matter.

Hey. [ she's a sad panda now. big brother instincts activate. ] Kid, what's up?

[That crap will save carries through, causing her to have a little word vomit.]

I fucking fell for him. Like an idiot. And he doesn't feel the same. And it's not... I knew that's not what he was interested in. But it still sucks. So I told him we can't fool around, because it hurts. I just feel... This never was supposed to happen.

[ that is a lot of words, holy shit. it takes him a second to sort through wtf she is even saying. ]

[She glances away, feeling hella vulnerable and not liking it at fucking all.]

[ gently, gus puts his hands on her shoulders, squeezing a little to remind her that someone is there. she isn't alone. ]

It sucks, I know. And it's probably going to suck for a while and then you're going to get pissed and then you'll be okay. But look, even if it wasn't "supposed to happen", you should be proud of yourself for... looking out for yourself.

[She tenses when his hands touch her shoulders.]

Proud? There's nothing to be proud of. I let myself be weak enough to let this happen.

Don't be dramatic. You stood up for what you needed, be proud of that.

[Glancing at him over her shoulder, Faye looks legit confused.]

Why do you care anyway? Just frees up more of his time for you to go after him.

I don't need to go after him. [ he has had him ok. and gus is the only known gay dude in the castle. if alex wants dick... ] And I care, because I care about you, dumbass.
