[ It seems that Wynn was hoping for Sir Mark Sandazhard to reveal his true identity, and to lead the charge against Dimitris Sarandis' tyrannical hold over the island he was born to rule.   He was not disappointed, and Prince Marcus Andres stands poised to lead the group of Knights who he's worked beside for two years, to confront Sarandis, save their friend Kat, and search the castle dungeon for the captive Dragon's Claw, Sir Thomas Bancroft.    

Before they attempt to answer the castle, however, it's time to reunite the Prince with his childhood friends on the Isle, who had long held out hope that he was still alive, including his once-betrothed, Countess Lara Tamon.  Their first task will be to convince Lara to make a risky attempt to draw Kat out of the castle.  

The fate of their captured allies, and the future of Andres Isle, lie in their hands.  ]

[ some time has passed since the comm tower fell under their control, in which a few texts or calls have come through here or there, most recently the one indicating someone had tried to shoot dimitris inside the castle. wynn's mouth is set in a hard line, therefore, when he goes to answer sam's call. ] What manner of problem?

[familybusiness]

One of the computers in the prison was- [A brief pause as he looks aside. l o l.] -destroyed. It's dying act, so to speak, was to initiate an attack on the castle.

[wynn]

What kind of attack?

[familybusiness]

The weapons are originating from the prison itself. Whatever it is, they were holding it here, and now it's free and targeting the castle.

The console died before I could get more information. It could be one weapon, or it could be a swarm.

[A beat.]

We have one of the guards here with us. Maybe I can get him to tell us more.

[wynn]

Do that. I'll send all available resources to stop the attack from reaching the palace. It's imperative that our teams there are not interrupted.

[familybusiness]

I'll call back as soon as I know anything.

[And then he hangs up.]

[wynn]

[ wynn slides the phone away, turning to look at the others. ] We have a situation.

[Alcide sort of figured as much from the one side of Wynn's conversation he was able to overhear, but it isn't until Wynn openly addresses the rest of the group post-phone call that he actually speaks up, despite the severe lack of details they are presented with.]

How do we fix it? [Let's cut right to the chase, shall we?]

[wynn]

We hold the line.

Position ourselves between the jail and the palace, and fend off whatever forces have been released, to prevent them from interfering with our operations.

Finally! Some action. [ faith leaps to her feet, reaching down a hand for fiona as wynn records a message to broadcast to the others. ]

[wynn]

A lot of it, I'm certain. [ wynn doesn't sound nearly enthused, as he hangs up and nods to them all to follow him. ] We'll take this a bit to the east. That should put us right in the path of whatever everyone else lets through.

[missindependent]

[ fiona accepts faith's hand up, her eyes sparkling at the prospect of something exciting finally happening, as well. ] Let's do this!

[wynn]

[ their new position puts them in sight of the castle gates through the forest. it seems almost misleadingly peaceful for the moment, but wynn is clearly on high alert, his eyes scanning the woods in the direction of the prison, body poised for action. ]

[nepotism]

[ fred paces, sword in hand, restless and spending more time glancing back at the castle than in the direction the monsters are meant to be coming from.

finally, one hand yanks out his phone, when wynn's gaze is affixed in the other direction. jack raises an eyebrow at him, but says nothing, as fred pops off a text to buffy.

[ i should be in there.

we'll try to keep these monsters off. he's ready to add more, but there's a crashing sound that echoes through the forest abruptly, something coming directly their way, something larger than life.

the towering beetle-like horror that breaks through the trees has thick carapace segments and massive mandibles that leak sizzling acid. ]

[wynn]

[ wynn's sword slides from its sheath, and he lifts it high in the air. ] Spread out and fell the beast!

[ jack draws his longsword, breaking to the left, and moving to flank the creature from behind. his nat 20 init gives him an extra turn to move all the way around, careful to skirt the thing's massive reach, and he positions himself behind it, unleashing a furious hail of blows, all of which land except for the last (atk 35/36/30/30/17, total dmg 58). the beast lets out a high pitched whine, but makes its fort save against the massive bloodloss. ]

[wynn]

[ wynn charges from the front, and hell if that ain't a nat 20 attack that he brings to bear, brilliant longsword slicing right up into the monster's chest, spurting blood and ichor everywhere (atk 51, dmg... 54). its mandibles clack together in protest, but it still stands, drooling acid that hits the ground on either side of wynn, sizzling where it strikes. ]

[Holy shit, are y'all serious rn? Alcide didn't actually bring a weapon with him, and he isn't about to run up and punch the thing in its oozy coozie mouth so he just starts stripping kicks off his shoes and unbuttons his shirt so that he can shift right into wolf form. That takes up his move action though so he won't be attacking this round but enjoy the show.]

[ arthur has seen a hell of a lot of Oversized Bugs in his time but this is like a giant beetle on crack, and he's not into it. with a passing glance at alcide (and by glance we mean side-eye) he follows wynn to strike alongside him at one of the monsters hairy legs. (atk 24, dmg 6, whatever he's a tiny mosquito it's cool.) ]

[ fiona holds her ground, allowing those with swords (and claws???) to get close. she's perfectly happy staying back and slinging some spells. speaking of which...

fiona raises a hand in front of her and, with one word, four empowered magic missiles spring forth from her finger tips, the magical beams of force striking the creature unerringly (for 25 dmg total).

if the vermin has spell resistance, she also rolled a 31 to overcome it, and deal damage as normal. ]

[ no spell resistance, which means arthur's blade and fiona's spells both deal damage to it! woooo. faith also keeps back, moving opposite fiona and putting two fingers to her temple as she attempts to psychically crush the monster... which makes its will save by only 2 lmao. it still does 6 damage tho... ] What is that thing?!

[ fred jr breaks to the left side of the giant bug, so that it's surrounded on three sides, power attacking into its side... a little too hard. the slow swing means that it can move away just in time (atk 22), at which point the thing opens its hideous jaws, and a humongous spray of green acidic chemicals spray out of its mouth in a cone shape that catches wynn, arthur, fiona, faith, and alcide. the scalding liquid burns away at those it coats, causing 23 damage. it's possible to make a reflex save of 20+ to take 11 damage instead - and also avoid the other unpleasant side effect of being blinded from acid in the eyes. the chemicals vaporize as they hit the ground, forming a thick, noxious cloud forty feet in front of the thing, with a twenty foot radius. anyone fighting in that section must make a dc 20 fortitude save or be nauseated for 4 rounds after leaving the cloud.

wynn makes his reflex save easily (ref 34) and his fort save (fort 32), taking minimal damage. faith doesn't do as well (ref 11), but is at least outside of the cloud with fiona, and doesn't need to save vs nausea. ]
