[ It seems that Wynn was hoping for Sir Mark Sandazhard to reveal his true identity, and to lead the charge against Dimitris Sarandis' tyrannical hold over the island he was born to rule. He was not disappointed, and Prince Marcus Andres stands poised to lead the group of Knights who he's worked beside for two years, to confront Sarandis, save their friend Kat, and search the castle dungeon for the captive Dragon's Claw, Sir Thomas Bancroft.

Before they attempt to answer the castle, however, it's time to reunite the Prince with his childhood friends on the Isle, who had long held out hope that he was still alive, including his once-betrothed, Countess Lara Tamon. Their first task will be to convince Lara to make a risky attempt to draw Kat out of the castle.

The fate of their captured allies, and the future of Andres Isle, lie in their hands. ]

[and finnick crouches down next to myri's other side, and against her other shoulder in a comforting gesture. /makes a myri sandwich.]

We should tell Wynn. [good thing he'll be here like any moment now ...]

There is little need. [ as a matter of fact, wynn is standing in the doorway behind y'all, taking in the scene before him slowly, gaze tracing between thomas - his dragon's claw - and fred jr. - his own blood, awash in their own blood where they lie. ] Sir Summers is correct. We will send every Knight available to scour this Isle.

[ he looks to mark next, who trembles with a rage that has nowhere to go, now that his mortal enemy has vanished into thin air. wynn's words seem directed towards him, even as he addresses the room. ] Justice will prevail, whether today or tomorrow. We will see this done.

[Coming to a stop at Wynn's heels, Rose stands frozen as she takes in the sight before her, the broken body of Thomas, the bloodied remains of Fred, her eyes lingering on the latter as her face remains a nearly emotionless mask, only the air that feels as if it's been forced out of her lungs suggesting any response at all to the sight before her.

Death so fresh and so close pushes in on her, a pressure that makes her temples throb and she considers it, how easy it would be to lower the wall in her mind, to get one last glimpse but she says nothing, does nothing, just looks on in stoic silence as Wynn speaks.]

[ gus comes in and stops as he takes in the scene, heart seizing in his throat, stomach bottoming out as he catches the tail end of wynn's words. fucking fred, practically a baby. the expression on kat's face. he looks away from the tiny blonde. watching her grief seems... wrong. he's spent years watching her guard herself, seeing that guard shatter feels like a cruel invasion of her privacy.

it's thomas that draws his attention finally, moving across the floor to his broken body. thomas is safe, somehow, as if his age and status -- dragon's claws don't often last incredibly long, after all -- make his death easier for gus to bear. or perhaps it's the knowledge that nothing can bring him back, there is not terrifying hope to cling to. thomas' divine birthright precluded him from being resurrected.

with the ease of picking up a child (strength 20 total), he picks up the man he's admired for over a decade, looked to as a friend and confidante, and moves to carry him out of the throne room with a certain reverence. gruffly, he tells wynn as he passes, jaw tight: ] I'll bring him to the boats.

[As soon as the guards surrender, Spike stops punching them and instead just shoves his way past them, none to gently, perhaps, but not like he's actively trying to hurt them. While everyone else is debating and interrogating and mourning and whatever else, Spike's searching the balcony, hoping for any sign that it's a trick, that they're still in range, or maybe some sort of clue to where they've gone. He can't consider the possibility that they're just gone without a trace. He's been so ready to dismember Dimitris, to pay him back for all the pain he's caused Spike and Myri and Kat and so many others. He needs this. Has needed it for a long time now.

When Wynn arrives, Spike finally realizes it's futile, and kicks viciously at the balcony railing (atk 23, dmg 12). It doesn't help anything, but he has nothing else to take out his rage on. Might as well add a little to Mark's home repair bill.]

Bugger all. He bloody got away.

[Des's expression falls when Wynn and company arrive and he glances at Elena with a worried look. Unfortunately, there's nothing he can do for her to help her there- the opinion of one guy on the fringes of this entire operation doesn't really have much sway.

He gives Elena's hand a squeeze and leans over to whisper:] No one's gonna let anything happen to you, Cupcake.

[And with yet another promise he's not sure he can keep, he follows Gus out the door, shooting Rose and Dean dark looks as he passes, because Elena Protection Society Life, that's why.

He doesn't have much to contribute in there, but he can do some detective work around the damn castle.]

[as will enters the room, his eyes skim over the gory scene, not needing to be former sort-of fbi to know what just went down. not good. very bad. etc. he never knew thomas and barely knew fred, so he's not exactly drowning in feelings. instead, he beelines over to elena, not really attempting eye contact with anyone else. it's not even that he's ... taking the next shift on elena duty lmao. she still reminds him (very abstractly) of abigail and he finds a small comfort in that.]

How did Dimitris get away? [there's not exactly a dimitris-sized hole in the wall....]

[Any of the people coming into the room who care can easily tell that she's in no danger of going anywhere. She wishes she could disappear, perhaps, but she's not running.

She always intended to come home after it was over, and it was. She'd failed.

Elena looks up at Will as he comes over, briefly watching Des make his exit before meeting his gaze, face impassive but with tired eyes.]

Mind Master. She cast some kind of spell, from what I could tell.

[Rose drags her eyes away from Fred's lifeless body as Des passes her, confusion meeting that dirty look as she sets eyes on the man she'd never seen before let alone known what she'd done to earn his apparent disdain. Another time and place she would likely have demanded to know WTF it was about but this was neither of those and she swallows her question before it can be given voice. (WS 23).]

We'll... start searching. [Weight shifting, the brunette unable to handle standing around when there's still a chance, slim as it might be, that they can still find Dimitris and she needs to be away from this scene, her head throbbing like somebody is hammering an ice pick into her temple.]

[When Wynn arrives, Myri pales noticeably. But Rose's assertion pulls her back to the present, recognizing that they still have a job to do. She can worry about Wynn kicking her out for letting Fred die later.

Or now. She can worry about it now, silently.

Slowly, she stands, gripping Finnick's hand like a lifeline, keeping her from spiraling into everyone's emotions. Once the floodgates of her mind opened, it was harder to shut out all of the emotions flying around- and they're currently filling this room to the brim.]

Is anyone else hurt? I don't know just what I can manage but I can try...

[She's never been this close to out of spells before. But get some heals while you can!!]

[ gar has moved away from kat to make the call to solace, loathe to brief him on the situation aloud in front of her. ] As soon as possible, yes.

[ kat seems to have lost the ability to respond, casting a dulled look around the room as thomas as carried out. she hovers protectively over fred's body, as if not about to let anyone cart him off, as if it's too much of an act of finality. ]

[ mark moves to wynn's side, glancing back across the room, his frustration still palpable, the sword excalibur still in hand. ] It wasn't supposed to be like this.

[ there's an apology in the words, and it's clear that on some level, he feels like he's failed wynn, slowly dragging his eyes up to meet the leader of the knights'. ] I'll find him. [ the words are hard, a stern promise. ] He's done enough damage. [ with that, he stalks out, heading to go check out the roof. ]

[ he passes jack, who stops up short in front of gus as he enters, mouth falling open as he sees the body in his arms. ] Thomas...

[ he takes a step closer, eyes tracing back and forth across the corpse, taking in the extent of his injuries. ] No. [ the word, however, is not a real denial, simply a soft exhalation of regret. ]

[ dean steps in behind rose, barely paying any heed to the look des casts him as he walks by. he's a little preoccupied by the dead - and by the announcement. ] Any idea what kinda spell we're dealing with?

[ lan walks in slowly at the back, looking pretty damn worse for the wear, he, too, sees thomas and pales, then notices fred, and lowers his head, closing his eyes and shaking his head slightly. he walks up behind jack and puts a hand on his shoulder in consolation. ]

[ A hand drops on Myri's shoulder—silent appreciation for her priorities. But she doesn't take her up on the offer, instead following Mark out onto the roof after a quick, anxious glance around that never truly engages with any of them. ]

[Elena answers Dean's question, if only because she answered Will's too.]

Some kind of portal? It opened up behind her and swallowed both of them. Myri said they could have only traveled about half a mile at most.

[There's a lack of emotion to her words, but she manages to meet his gaze.]

We'll be lucky if we even know who we're looking for. Psions can screw with your senses. For all we know, they'll double dutch off the island looking like two of us.

Just an illusion, at least, which means if people are really tryin, they might be able to see through em. Beats looking for doppelgangers. And I doubt Dimitris' got his Wynn impression down.

[ gar hangs up, upon watching Jack's entrance and subsequent reaction, and moves towards him with an arm that intends an embrace, but he arrests her approach with a gently lofted palm before she can touch him. Her already fretful expression becomes riddled with insecurity, eyes skating to Wynn, as if in sudden fear of some tacit agreement between the men, that had allowed jack to participate in this battle, at the cost of forsaking the relationship he had promised her. His expression shifts when he takes note of her doubt, and he offers her a sad smile, acknowledging his still acid soaked armor, that he was merely shielding her from. Embarrassed relief floods her features, which melts into sympathy quickly for his loss, ]

[ meanwhile, wynn has shifted his attention to Kat and Fred, approaching her slowly, and then squatting down to place one hand on her shoulder. She looks up at him, and he scans her face, seeming to register the affection at the root of her loss, and it prompts a subtle shift behind his eyes. his tone carries an all too rare intimacy when he speaks to her, and there's a quiet privacy to the words, though they're said for all to hear. ]

The castle is ours. He will be borne to one of the rooms here, where our clerics may tend to him.

[ the optimistic turn of phrase, which makes it sound as though his condition were so much more simple to remedy than it is in truth, seems to afford her the comfort she needs to nod slightly and stop looking ready to fight anyone who dares come near him. ]

[Elena's eyes flick over to Dean, brows knitting together, wondering if there's something more to that doppelganger statement beyond the last hour-ish(?) they've spent together (wis 23).

She hopes not, considering his current company.

Elena looks toward Kat then toward the door, because she sure doesn't want to be in this room anymore. Embracing Kat isn't an option for a myriad of reasons, and intruding on this moment otherwise just leaves a sick feeling in her stomach.

Too bad she'd have to...walk past Wynn, nope.]

[In the midst of that swirl of emotions, Myri might at least feel a little surge of warmth and relief when she speaks, Rose finally able to take her in properly rather than the fleeting glimpse she'd been granted before and though it feels selfish to be grateful when they are surrounded by loss, there's at least a twitch of a smile that touches her lips as she nods to the others who had just entered.]

Them first.

[Dean's words seem to spark something however, her expression grim as she turns something over in her mind. Being still like this, doing nothing makes her feel useless and if there's a chance? After a moment of hesitation, she turns her head towards Dean to speak in a low voice.]

These illusions... would they work on Spirits too or just us?

What, like ghosts? [ give him a sec. ] Not sure. As far as I know, they're not immune. You can trick a ghost in other ways, so it might not be impossible.

[ as jack goes to pick up fred, lan moves to take up myri's offer with a slightly developing limp. it's been a long day for the paladin, and he's out of spells to heal himself, ok. ]
