[ The two groups tasked to deal with the denizens of the Shadow Village arrive on the bank of the river that bisects the capitol city of Andres in half. The river slopes down from the woods and city around it, meaning that they're afforded a bit of concealment here, unless anyone stood at the top and looked down. At this hour of the night, however, there's no one around. Dovan grumbles a bit about 'blasted magic' as they shake off the disorienting sense of vertigo, while Koraith waits for Belle to confirm they've arrived in the right place. She pats Gold on the arm as she pulls out her phone, and moments later, she nods to the others in confirmation.

The water laps gently nearby against the rocks, and in the distance, a bridge is visible that links the segregated Shadow village with its thatched roof houses, to the city proper, which seems lined with wealthy manor homes. ]

[ derek's bullet strikes purple, who looks surprised at his sudden appearance but fires off her readied shot (atk 20; dmg 11 if it hits).

meanwhile, dovan charges at red, swinging his great-axe with a roar (atk 36, dmg 26). ow. lavender shoots after miles, striking him despite the partial cover, for 6 dmg. mint hops down and moves between the back two tanks, so that he can shoot out from behind cover at davin (atk 19, nope).]

[ davin keeps ripping at blue's throat for 12 damage, most of the color draining from the soldier's face as he nears unconsciousness. he also crushes him with his grip for 6 more dmg... which finally pushes blue over the brink. davin releases him, and he slumps to the ground, passed out, and bleeding out his neck. green keeps firing at the freaking vampire because he's probably next and not happy about it (atk 24... still nope). riddick attacks black again for 9 damage. ]

[ penelope has to attack gray on her way through, just... because she does, ok. she's hoping riddick is keeping black busy enough that he won't start shooting at her, too, but ouch, that looked like it hurt.

anyway, she runs forward, her sword slashing gray across his front, from shoulder to hip (atk 27, which is a critical, if it hits; dmg 22), blood spraying from the large gash that travels through his armor and into his flesh.

seriously, praise the everlight for that impressive sword-work. ]

[ orange moves closer to the tank again and fires at derek (atk 19, dmg 4 if it hits). yellow fires at davin and misses too, jfc. ]

[Miles grunts and winces painfully as another bullet strikes him, but he manages to keep both himself and Jaina hobbling down and hopefully underneath the bridge for better cover (str 12).]

[ purple pops off another one at derek too quickly to aim well (atk 11, which i'm sure misses). jaina stumbles down around the bridge with miles, leaning across a tree and pressing a hand against her injuries with a wince. ] Not lookin' too hot yourself there, Slick. [ cerulean glances back at the dwarf that is chopping his friend almost in half over there, and hesitates, wondering whether he or the vampire are the bigger threat here. he decides he has a better chance to hit dovan apparently and fires - landing a nat 20!! 14 dmg. black smacks at riddick again (atk 23; dmg 4), while blue finally stabilizes.

pink swings the tank cannon around at dovan and releases a deafening BOOM from it... missing and striking the edge of the bridge, knocking part of it out. red steps back from dovan, firing frantically (atk 18) but he's too close and it fires past him. ]

[ purple's first attack hits derek in the shoulder, but the second misses (defense 20 incl armor for the record!) and he decides he'd rather do this up close and personal. he's fast, and he jumps down off the side of the bridge (j13) and comes towards them with a grim determination, his eyes flashing an electric blue. ]

[ but before he even strikes, he immediately attempts to disarm her by grabbing her wrist and forcing her to drop the gun (atk 24). ]

[ purple tries to take a shot but his hand is already on her wrist, twisting it away as the bullet discharges (atk 12). he easily wrests the gun out of her hands and it drops to the ground.

meanwhile, dovan steps in and smashes into red again (atk 33; dmg 23) which knocks her onto the ground, bleeding and out for the count. he has cleave but he'd have to take another step and can't :( sob.

lavender moves forward to the middle of the 3rd tank, and readies an action to shoot if penelope emerges from behind it. mint tries to shoot at davin again, and finally seems to realize this shit is fruitless. ]

[ as expected, davin leaps for green next, yanking him down off the tank by easily winning that grapple check (6 dmg). with another successful melee touch attack, he bites that sucker too (12 dmg). om nom nom.

green tries to use escape artist to break away but nope, not going anywhere. riddick keeps wailing on black (dmg 7). ]

[ penelope, seeing gray fall over unconcious, grips her silver holy symbol in her hand, pressing it against her chest, and murmuring a short word or two to cast sanctuary on herself. a light spreads from her palm and quickly expands to cover her whole body for a moment before disappearing entirely. she's in healing mode now, and need not attack (hopefully) for the next minute or so; at least not until some of her allies are back on their feet.

spell cast, she takes off in the direction of miles and jaina, losing the cover of the tank, but holding faith that her spell will help deflect any attacks aimed in her direction. (sanctuary: any opponent attempting to strike or otherwise directly attack the warded creature, even with a targeted spell, must attempt a will save, DC 14. if the save succeeds, the opponent can attack normally and is unaffected by that casting of the spell. if the save fails, the opponent can’t follow through with the attack, that part of its action is lost, and it can’t directly attack the warded creature for the duration of the spell.) she can, unfortunately, only move 20 ft in their direction this round. ]

[ orange fires at derek again... dead on, with a nat 20. 20 dmg total. yellow keeps firing on davin (atk 25) but with a -4 to not shoot his buddy... so nope. ]

[He does the same as her nearby, leaning his head back for a moment, breathing hard.

Somehow, he cracks a smile at that.]

Good to know I look as good as I feel.

[Just casually joking about being near death while they wait for rescue nbd.]

[ disarmed, purple moves to strike derek in the face with her elbow (atk 23, dmg 3). jaina strains to look up at the bridge, where the gunfire is non-stop and the giant boom of the tank's cannon is more than a little unnerving. ] Should we call for back-up? [ cerulean sees dovan coming with his death dealing ax, and is like nope.jpeg, moving back between the tanks, firing one shot out without much control, clearly shaken by the sight of red going down (atk 10). black continues wrestling with riddick, whiffing as he tries to smack in the head. pink takes aim with the cannon again, but once more, it proves difficult to aim at such close range, blowing up one end of the tree in the road, instead. ]

[ penelope's still booking it across the bridge, sheathing her sword as she moves, but keeping her shield high to provide cover for her face. she makes it to miles and jaina after about ten seconds of running, diving behind the bridge next to them, her eyes quickly scanning the two of them (heal 20). she crouches down next to jaina, the more injured of the two, and lays her hands firmly against her bleeding wounds without hesitation. ] Forgive me for causing you further pain, but it will be but a memory in a moment.

[ the rigid crease in her brow grows more defined as she murmurs a soft, soothing word, and her hands begin to glow a pale, white light. beads of sweat fall from her face as the light moves from her hands to jaina's lacerations, the torn and bloody tissue instantly knitting itself back together, from the inside out (cure serious wounds for 24 hp).

the light fades as suddenly as it had arrived, and penelope lifts her hands from her now-healed ally, turning to next address jaina's hemorrhaging boyfriend beside her. ]

[ orange fires at derek again, but the bullet sails far to his left as they overcompensate to not strike their ally. yellow's bullet whizzes right by davin's ear as the vampire shifts the slightest bit to avoid the projectile. ]

The others seem to be keeping it together alright. We might want to see if any of the guys we sent into the village can make it back.

[He gives Penelope a pained smile.]

You're a lifesaver.

[Literally.]

[ despite the fact that he has been badly shot by orange, derek doesn't waver. his focus stays on the struggling purple even as he can feel blood trickling down his side. he pulls in a deep, painful breath, and punches her in the face (atk 24, dmg 7). ]

[ dovan lets out a roar and bends at the knees, before leaping up onto the tank (jump 21) to bring his axe down at pink's head (atk 45, dmg 32). the soldier fails their fort save and slumps off from the tank, bleeding massively.

lavender, having failed her will save vs penelope's sanctuary spell earlier, readies another shot at whoever might emerge from around the corner of the bridge. mint decides to run the fuck away from davin and make for the cannon on three, clambering up the tank. ]

[ davin tightens a crushing grip around green (12 dmg), while ripping furiously at his neck (10 dmg). the soldier goes pale as shit as well, horror welling up in his eyes as he senses his final moments likely approaching. he struggles even more weakly against the vampire (grapple 10 vs. 29), beating back helplessly against him. ]

[Riddick growls at black, pissed that he just won't seem to die. With a Nat 20 attack (dmg 16 total for penetration) he brings his ulak blade up and around towards the guy's shoulder in an arc.]

[ riddick's blade takes down black finally, and orange shifts his fire from derek to the terrifying dwarf on top of the tank, but his shot clangs off dovan's armor easily. yellow decides living sounds better than getting his throat ripped out by a vampire, and starts to crawl out of the tank on the other side. ]

[NEVER FEAR, THE SORCERER IS HERE... and oh that's a lot of carnage.

Gold and Belle arrive to the sounds of the battle still going strong. Instinctively, Gold raises a hand to use a spell, but the guilt he associates with using magic hits him and he becomes crippled with indecision on how to proceed.

Maybe if he doesn't hurt anyone...

He casts Ventriloquism on the other side of the bridge where the tanks came from (assuming that's within fifty feet), his accent softened into a flatter, but panicked version of his own:] Fall back! [(bluff 29 for the... bullshit, even if it's not necessary for the spell)]

[ good work bb. belle stays a step behind him, with her gun drawn but lowered, keeping an eye on the soldier fighting derek. if he doesn't retreat when it comes time for him to act, she'll try to stop him with a readied action to shoot -- but if they can scare the soldiers off with gold's trick, that sounds better to her than a bloodbath. ]

[Miles is just going to hold/skip his action because he's still...injured as fuck. He sure hears all that going on above them, though (listen 18).]

Sounds like maybe back-up is already here.

[ jaina's eyes darken as she hears the call for a retreat ] If they run now, they'll only come back in force. [ jaina hisses as she pulls herself away from the tree, testing her limbs to make sure she's feeling good enough to do this - and then turning all business, steeling herself against the urge to stay and hover, as she glances at penelope. ] I'm leaving him in good hands. [ with that, she turns and dashes back out to the bridge. she stops dead in her tracks, staring at lavender with her gun down at her side, feet planted firmly apart, anger burning in her eyes. as lavender turns towards her, fully ready to run for it, jaina raises one hand, palm up (force strike 25), and lavender fails their save hilariously (ref 3 vs... 20), and goes slamming back into the tank (7 dmg).

"What the--?!"

cerulean goes running through the space between tanks, taking the order to heart to retreat, making it to yellow's side. ]
