[ Meanwhile, a group of ten lands on... the roof of a building in the upscale sector of town. The half-moon lights the sky around them enough for any of them to get a good glance at what surrounds them. In the distance, moonlight plays across the river dividing the city, and the roofs of the Shadow village homes can be barely made out. But here, there are opulent old-money homes scattered here and there, and a number of commercial buildings coursing up and down the main thoroughfare. Colin doublechecks the location on the phone, which lights up his face eerily as he checks the screen, and then he slides it into his pocket, turning to nod the others. ]

We find ourselves on scenic Andres Isle, atop the historic Grand Hotel.  The very heart of the Island, ladies and gentlemen.  Advising caution seems unnecessary.

[Zoe isn't sure that anyone is going to be working at the country club if the streets are this dead. Either everyone is paranoid about what sort of neighbors they really have or they are all scared of what will happen if they overstep.]

I'm not really certain that scouring their Twitter accounts is going to pay off for us much. I might be able to glean some things when they're talking to us, however. [ they head for the gates, which are, at this moment, closed. ]

[ he hesitates, obviously thrown off by the breach in protocol.

"What kind of emergency?" ]

[ um bc we're stuck out here on purge night obviously. ]

Could we perhaps talk inside? Best not to loiter in the open. What with the... fugitive on the loose.

pretty soon, it slides open electronically, and cordelia casts a judgmental look at it as they waltz inside. ] Wow. This is the security members are shelling out their big paychecks for?

[ as they make their way towards the doors, a young man comes out who sports a very... unfortunate face. red hair, freckles, glasses, acne, buck teeth - it's a mess. cordelia's smile at seeing the doors open vanishes, lip curling back in disgust as she fails to restrain a grossed out noise, mumbling: ] Shouldn't they only hire attractive people? No one wants to see that.

[ he stares at her for a long moment, clearly utterly captivated, his mouth hanging open slightly, before he clears his throat and scratches his neck saying, "Uh, yeah no problem. You said... you said there was an emergency?" ]

Yes. [ her grateful smile falls into an expression of something like worry. which is easy because she's not sure she can carry this charade ok. using what she's got available tbh. ] Unfortunately there's been a gas leak in town. [ her nose wrinkles. (bluff 25) ] Possibly the... [ she trails off with a heavy look. the convict. clearly her delicate sensibilities don't want to dwell on it. ] We're not entirely sure. Regardless, some people need to be evacuated while it's investigated and we were wondering if it would be possible for you to open your doors to the rest of us? [ SO HOPEFUL. (diplomacy 28) ] It would only be for a few hours and we would be forever grateful. Best to keep off the streets.

[ he stares at lissa for a moment before really seeming to process what she's saying, and while he seems to believe her about the gas leak, he does look a little nervous about the unusual situation - or about getting himself in trouble.

"A gas leak? How come I haven't heard anything about it on TV?"

cordelia speaks up with her usual haughty tone: ] Uh, hello? You really think they want people to start panicking and running around when there's a crazy ex-con on the loose? [ nat 20 for the assist. between the two of them, he can't keep arguing, and he looks back and forth, mouth gaping open a bit, before he slams it shut and nods.

"Uh, right... right. Obviously. Uh, I guess - I should probably call my manager though..." ]

[alex's contribution to this is staring at the lil dude and going] Well? Chop chop.

Your manager will need to be evacuated just like anyone else. You should let me speak to him. But we should all get inside first. [ he gapes again but can't seem to figure out how to argue with that??? and so he gestures for them to follow. "Uh, right, I'll - we'll let's get inside and then we'll figure it out." ]
