[ The two groups responsible for evacuation of Shadowkind travel to the island via stealth boat, which puts their arrival a little behind everyone else's.  They run aground not far from both the woods, and the harbor.   Edain grins out at the sleepy island, dressed in full armor, hand on the hilt of his sword.  Anastacia frowns as she watches the woods, however, clearly more on edge about what they have to do. ]

From here, everything looks so peaceful...

Anybody doesn't want in on this fight, they'd better fall back. [ max raises his gun as three figures burst from the trees:

a large leopard has six colorful snakes, hissing and ready to strike, sprouting from its shoulders

followed by the sound of powerful black wings beating, as two large winged apes fly down from the branches above.

the lighter colored of the two apes swoops in towards ... bambi, oh lordy, charging her with his falchion blade (atk 21, dmg 11). max curses and shoots at it (atk 24; and a miss: dmg 11). ]

[ alice should run away. she should. she is weak and delicate and full of breakable squishy bits and unskilled and disappearing is literally her niche. but she sees the ape attack bambi and no. fairy tale names stick together. she rushes forward and

tases the ape.

woo! (atk 20 total for a whole 2 electricity dmg + a fort save of 15+ or the ape will be paralyzed for a whole 1 round.) much helpful. a+ squire. and also, fuck your ginger judgment, bambi. fuck. it. ]

[SAVED BY A GINGER. OH, THE IRONY.

Bambi screams as the ape bears down on her and she definitely doesn't look too good with her... whole 2 HP, but she manages to stagger to her feet and try to RUN LIKE FUCK... not exceptionally deer-like with her total dex of 12, but, you know, it's average running.]

[ successfully tazed! with a failed fort save, the ape is too busy being jolted by electricity to act next round wooooo.

too bad his friend is still up and at 'em. and alice has made herself a fitting target for its attack, as it swoops down to stab her (atk 25, dmg 14). this is what helping people gets you. being run through with a sword by a giant flying monkey. blood blossoms from the wound, which is... probably enough to send her unconscious. ]

No! [Helen shouts as two of the young squires are struck by the creatures. Drawing her weapon quickly, she shoots for the ape that's attacked Alice, seeing as the other one appears to be stunned by the taser attack, attack 20 total, and thanks to penetration twice, she does 21 damage. What's up.]

[ helen gets a hella good shot in on the ape, which is heavily bleeding, but the snake-covered panther lets out a growl, and then a strange cone of gas comes out on its exhale, and everyone but bambi, who booked it, must make a dc 15 fort save, or feel very very sleepy... max falls victim to this almost instantly, collapsing to the ground and dropping his gun. edain shrugs off the effect with ease, but scowls when he sees anastacia going down. ] Someone wake the damn cleric, or we'll all be in for it! [ he charges at the panther for a critical hit (atk 26; dmg 32), but it makes a nat 20 fort save vs massive damage. still, he jabbed his sword so deeply in its side that it looks like it's not going to need much more to take it down. ]

[With his fort save of 17, Hook's fine. He follows closely on Edain's heels and slams his hook down at the panther (atk 18, dmg 4 if it hits).]

[ Hello Adi has totally also been here the whole time side-eyeing the bickering and then reacting accordingly (but not very quickly, apparently) to the sight of a trio of monsters. Fort save of 19 means he's unaffected, and while he could theoretically help with the healing, having Anastacia conscious still seems like a good idea.

He sheathes his sword, then steps over the unconscious Max and crouches down next to Anastacia. ]

[ Then he slaps her across the face. ?? No time to waste on half-assing this ok nice to meet you please wake up. ]

[Frankie uses those action points like a boss; 7, 8, makes a fort save of 17 to keep standing and teams up with Helen to try and make quick work of the not-stunned ape; Atk 19. 13 Penetration Dmg of it hits.]

[ that's all it takes to wake her tbh, while frankie makes a successful attack. huzzah! anastacia blinks and shakes her head against the heavy drowse, before realizing where she is, and shooting adi a grateful look. she casts a mass cure serious wounds spell on all knights who've been injured, restoring 30hp to them all. ]

[Brantley manages to resist the effect. There's no way he would fall asleep when someone or something in this case is cutting open his friends (fort 16).

Deciding that it is better to end the battle quickly than staying on defensive and prolonging the battle, Brantley joins in the attack team and delivers a punch to the panther (Atk 23, dmg 2). So helpful....]

[Alaric is also unaffected by the gas (fortitude 22), and joins Helen by firing on the ape that isn't seizing up after being tazed (attack 21 & 15, damage 6 & 5 how the fuck do you people do so much damage with guns jfc).]

[ the last thing alice remembers is being stabbed and pain and then she... is waking up on the dock with a yelp like what is even happening, did she just ride through the jellyfish forest, did she just die? she looks around but it's a little chaotic and all she really notices is max slumped nearby so she scoots over to him and maybe it's an a name thing, but her first thought to wake him up is to slap him roughly. ]

[Bambi doesn't get very far, because as soon as Alice is struck, she stops, suddenly taken back to another time and place where things played out very similarly to this. It doesn't matter that the spell kicked in and that she can hear Alice speaking just fine. All she knows is someone nearly died and here she is running away again.]

Constance! [She shouts the name involuntarily, barely aware that she said it, and then yanks her gun out. She can't do much more than that, but she's coming back.

She has to do the right thing this time.]

[ max is roused by alice's slap, raising one hand to the red welt on his cheek as he shakes off the slumber, while the dark ape decides helen seems the biggest threat here, since she FUCKING SHOT A BIG HOLE IN IT. so it launches itself at her with a mighty flap of dark wings and comes in swinging with a 27 attack... for minimal damage of 9 :| ]

[Helen breathes a sigh of relief as she sees the others get back up, assuming that Ana has something to do with it and trusting that she doesn't need to pull herself from combat to see to anyone's injuries. That brief distraction is all it takes to give one of the creatures the chance to attack her. She lets out a shout, taking a step back and realigning her aim.]

Is that the best you've got?

[The taunting isn't necessary but she would prefer their attention stay on her, rather than the younger squires. And with a very precise shot, she attacks with a nat 20 and does 16 damage.]

[ helen's shot nearly takes out the ape, leaving a bullet wound right in his chest, but he's still up.

the panther is just barely holding on, but it directs a full attack towards hook and edain: biting at the pirate with a nat 20, teeth ripping through the flesh of his arm with double penetration damage (30 dmg...), and then attemptint to claw edain (atk 14; atk 10), and striking at him with its snakes (atk 10).

edain, attempting to avoid the serpents, draws back his arm too quickly with his sword... and drops it, with a crit fail. a+ ] Nine hells.

[Hook screams as his fucking ARM gets ripped off, though luckily, he's not dying thanks to his fort save of 24. He's not dying but his ARM IS BEING EATEN BY A PANTHER AND it's not like losing limbs is new to him but he was not looking to repeat the experience.

He still has his sword hand, though. That one good hand that's stayed with him all this time. His pained scream turns into a shout of rage as he slices desperately at the panther (atk 20, dmg 2).....]

[ Jesus christ. Mildly grossed out by the fact that Hook just lost an arm, but he's going to attempt to help a bro out and get the panther's attention off him (maybe also his arm). He attacks with his rapier, atk 18 and dmg 4 if it hits. ]

[Frankie actually has to do a double take cause for a second there she - nope. yep. She just saw the panther with an ARM in it's mouth and for a moment there it looks like she's torn between shooting again and just continuing to WTF at the Panther. Snacking on an arm. Are you shitting her right now?!

But Will Save (19) says she's can refocus and she forces herself to take aim at the Ape she and Helen had been shooting at and fires another shot; Atk 26, Dmg 9.]

[ frankie's shot knocks the dark ape over with a howl, as it falls unconscious, and so anastacia moves behind hook, and casts cure critical wounds on him for 34hp ] Goddess...

[Brantley almost jumps toward Hook and tries to help him, stopping the bleeding or something, he doesn't like the guy, but he is still an important team-mate. But in less than a moment and after a whoosh, Hook's arm got fixed, magically. Brantley sighs, showing relieve and annoyance at the same time. Since the pirate seems better, he changes his focus toward the still-on-a-murder-spree ape and tries to reason with it, since sword-wielding apes are supposed to be smart, right?

So, he puts on a menacing look and shouts in a patronizing manner.]

Your comrades are dead! Surrender now, or we will deliver the same fate to you!

[Thoster stares on in horror as his former squire has his arm ripped off, but as the beast that did it is quickly brought down, he does what he does best...

breaking into song, duh.

Thoster launches into that sweet song he wrote about Mark taking the throne. He's gonna make it a thing. But as he sings, everyone feels a boost of courage. +1 to attack, damage, and saving throws against fear.

Now everyone else go kill the ape thing. He'll just hang out back here. #bardlyf]
