Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

The Knight's new section head, Wynn, and their mentor Knight wait up at the front of the room for their approach, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides. Of course, when Wynn speaks, people still hush. It's just how he rolls.

"Please kneel."

[ Which is slightly defensive. She looks him over, straightening her back. He's … different. Whether it's the knighthood talking or something else, she can't help but be surprised by the composure. He looks cool, even. ]

This isn't the sect I'd have expected you to join.

Yeah? That's funny since I was pretty sure you would head for the Hoard. [There is no one smarter in this place than her, as far as hes concerned.]

Where did you expect me to go?

I don't know. [ A vaguely uncomfortable shrug of one shoulder comes in place of a real answer. ] The Hoard, yourself. You're like the second smartest person I know.

[The little half smile he manages shows just how amusing and a little surprising he finds that. Despite doing great in school, Stiles has just never seen himself as the scholarly type. Not like her, anyway.]

I guess we're both just looking to use our other skills. Besides, the library will always be there, right?

And the lab. I asked Helen: she said we were welcome to use it regardless of sect. But on a mission, I'd rather be talking someone down than stuck behind a computer.

Makes sense. I think the sects are just sort of a guideline. I mean, I didn't join the Fire, but I can still study magic if I want. [He's still pretty jazzed about his baby spell list.]

I guess I like having the chance to be the one who can do something.

[Oooh stroke his ego, baby... Stiles looks a little surprised, but just sort of shrugs it off, despite practically glowing from the compliment. He's the worst at being humble.]

Couldn't hurt, though, right? Besides- not every mission is going to be Andres. And...

[Using Mage Hand, which is the only spell I've decided for sure he always prepares every day of his life, he floats over a glass of champagne for her. Because of course this fancy ass party has champagne.]

Am I supposed to be impressed that you can Harry Potter a champagne glass?

Besides, the parlor tricks are just entry level stuff. The more I study, the cooler it gets. It's like homework that actually pays off.

[ Lydia purses her lips, drumming her fingertips against her jawline a moment as she considers him with a narrow, biting gaze. ]

[He briefly looks to the sky as if to ask God what he's done to deserve this. But quickly, he moves around to be in her line of sight. Because he doesn't ever give up.]

[ Spoken sharply, as she lifts her chin to look at him, narrowing her gaze a bit. ]

Yeah, well- I'm pretty sure proving me wrong is one of your favorite past times. So what's the problem?

[ She does a good job of feigning her disinterest, sighing and glancing aside. ]
