Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

The Knight's new section head, Wynn, and their mentor Knight wait up at the front of the room for their approach, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides. Of course, when Wynn speaks, people still hush. It's just how he rolls.

I wouldn't have missed this. I'll skive off squiring stuff all the time, but this is the big leagues.

Still having a hard time believing I'm even near the big leagues. April seems like yesterday.

Oh April... I miss spring. It's wild, isn't it? Time really does fly, it's hard to believe I've been here for almost three years, but there we have it. Soon it'll be three years for you and you'll be looking at the calendar like wow shut up.

Three years, seriously? [ She whistles. ] Then again, I guess this deal's usually a ... life sentence. [ this is setting in now. ]

Relax, yo. If the pope can retire, so can you. [ she reaches out to clasp her shoulder. ] Wynn isn't gonna keep you here forever if you don't wanna be here, don't worry.

Not in the business of recruiting the unwilling, huh? Good to know.

Nope. Which is really nice, you know? I love this place and sometimes I think continuing to fight is something of a compulsion for some of us, but knowing that I could retire and Wynn will support me? It's nice.

[ especially since she did retire for about three months before the fight came to her. ]

Are we using the word "support" here emotionally or financially?

Maybe a little of both, probably, but I don't think he has to. Have you checked your bank account lately? Unless you're dropping Benjamins on yachts on the regular, that shit adds up. Got a nice little nest egg going on now.

[ especially vi who... doesn't spend money. whoops. ]

I spent most of my first paycheck replacing the stuff I lost when the Mexican government stole my house on my way in here. Granted, I haven't exactly checked since I went on that little shopping spree, so ... maybe it's time.

[ she reaches out to clasp skye's shoulder, leaning in. ]

That's gotta be, like, goals, right? [ she laughs. ] But seriously, I think you're right. I'm gonna have to take a look soon.

I always thought I'd be like Pan and just randomly jump out at people to freak 'em out, but Rafiki's legit. Maybe I could be both! I've got time.

No offense to your aspirations of Disney, but it's gonna take a loooong time to get Rafiki's game.

Oh, sometimes I forget not everyone knows my lifespan is like... waaaaay longer than the norm.

I am human. But my mom's sorta a goddess, too.

Remember Persephone from World History back in high school? The Roman version of her, that's my mom.

Uh, yeah, skipped that class. Most days. But— [ That doesn't mean she doesn't know. School =/= learning for Skye. ] Proserpina is your mother?

[ a grin spreads across her face, skye is second only to gar to know her mother's roman name. it's at the point where she just sticks with persephone for ease, but it's always a thrill when someone represents rome. ]

Yeah, she even admitted it once, no takesies backsies. Not many people know her Roman aspect, you know, that's impressive.

Greek and Roman stuff didn't always come up in school — when I went — but a lot of it gets used in CS terms and symbols. It's not hard to look that stuff up, if you're interested, and I was. [ shrug. ] I'm full of useless facts from the internet.

Really? I'm not super technologically inclined, sorry. Like, I can google, it's kind of pathetic.
