[She pauses, looking almost guilty.]

Something like that. [She lets out a small huff.]

I'm not too proud to admit that I've judged you prematurely from our first meeting. You... Well, you remind me of someone from my past. It's been hard for me to see past that.

Yeah, well, I ain't them. Whoever they were. Try to remember that.

[She turns away from her gun and all of that on the table. She's not going to get any shooting done while they talk about this. Sigh.]

I've been trying, I can assure you.

Who was this guy, anyway?

[She debates lying, or telling him that he would be better off not knowing. But asking Dean to give them a clean slate gave her the opportunity to be more honest, to be open with her squire and give them a chance to possibly connect on some level, any level. So she drops her eyes to her hands and finds the words.]

A man I knew when I was very young. His name was John- [She takes a breath.] -and we were engaged. But that was before he changed, before his blood lust overtook him. You likely knew him by another name.

[Her gaze raises dramatically to meet his.]

Jack the Ripper.

Wait. You're trying to tell me I remind you of your ex-fiancee Jack the Ripper?

In certain ways, yes...

[She looks so uncomfortable right now.]

When I first met him, he was incredibly charming. It wasn't until later that things changed.

I remind you of a serial killer.

You remind me a man who gave in to a darker nature, who didn't see the line he had crossed until it was too late. [She feels like she isn't explaining this well.]

You remind me of him before things changed, Dean. My worry is just how far those similarities may follow through.

Yeah, well, thanks for your concern. [ the words have a bitter edge, sry ] I'll make sure you keep you in the loop if I decide to start stalking girls down alleys.

That's not what I'm-- [She closes her eyes, head tipping back just a touch as he takes a breath.] It's not as though I'm imagining you as some sort of murderous ticking time bomb. When you've lived as long as I have, it's hard not to see patterns, similarities, to draw from experience. As I said, I am trying to see past my own concerns and start over with you. Would you rather I had lied to you about this instead? Painted the first stroke on our blank slate with deceit?

It explains a thing or two, at least.

Look. [ he sets the gun down, turning towards her more fully ] I'm not gonna pretend anything I've done in my life has been sunshine and roses. A lot of times hunting down monsters means pulling the trigger, or swinging the blade. And I'm good at that part of it. Always have been.

But I'm not the cold blooded killer you might think I am. I've done things I'm not proud of too, and they've stuck with me.

Which is precisely why I'd like to start over, to get to know you rather than let a ghost of a memory linger and cloud my judgment. If my mind was made up about you, why would I bother telling you any of this?

[She takes a step towards him.]

But if I'm going to get to know you? I need you to let me. And not all this... bravado you put on.

If you think me spelling this out for you is bravado, then you really don't get it. I'm tryin' to be honest here.

[She's quiet for a moment, her gaze dropping down, a flash of guilt in her expression before she looks back up at him.]

Alright. I'm listening.

[ he clearly thought that what he already said was the laying it out there part as for a moment he just stares at her like ????????????/ but then he frowns, turning to stare out at the middle distance with his forehead furrowed. ] If you're afraid of me goin' dark, the biggest thing you've gotta realize is that I've already been there. And there's not a day that goes by that I don't remember that.

[She studies his expression for a moment, debating whether or not to press further, but figuring why the hell not. She can't screw up this more than she already has by dropping the 'you remind me of jack the ripper' thing on him.]

I'd rather not go into it. You probably wouldn't believe it, even if I did.

You'd be surprised what I believe.

Wouldn't matter anyway. First part still stands.

[She nods.] I can't force you to tell me anything, and I won't try to bully you into it. But if we're going to get to know one another, that does involve a certain level of trust. I don't need every gruesome detail of you past, but I hope that one day you'll feel like you can speak to me about it- or anything else that might have made you who you are.

[And she gets a 31 to diplomacy to be... idk all inspirational or something. Or possibly to make him want to talk to her more??]
