[ she moves forward, slowly raising both hands to his temples, meeting his gaze. the mind naturally wants to resist, but he can choose to fail the will save nevertheless, so she closes her eyes, her eyelids fluttering slightly as she falls into whatever it is she finds there. her lips curve down into a deep frown, a troubled line creasing through the center of her forehead, and he would definitely feel a strange exterior force gently pressing in against his mind, a sensation of being watched, but from within ]

[He can feel himself starting to resist on instinct, and he has to force himself to stop. That still doesn't make the whole thing feel any less intrusive, though he tries not to let it bother him.

He's way more worried about what she might see in there. His mind isn't exactly the happiest place in the entire world.]

she drops her hands, looking highly unsettled ] Sam...

[Well, shit.

His expression is uncomfortable, as well as mildly sympathetic.]

I did try to warn you.

[ she shakes her head ] It wasn't like that. There's something-- something in the way. It wasn't a psionic reflex. It was--- [ she struggles for a word, as if she feels dumb saying it this way but has no other way to explain ] dark.

[He should probably look more surprised than he is, huh?]

Is that rare...or unheard of?

It usually means something is actively working to keep anyone out. [ she hesitates again ] I felt something similar once. Recently.

If I brought it over from the other side of the Veil, how could anything still be actively keeping people out?

Not someone who's actually there. But a... barrier they erected and left. Or something planted there.

Have you heard anything about this Blade business?

[Knowledge: Pop Culture/Current Events(?) 21. Can people just read mission reports? If so, then that's probably where he got this info. If not, Castle gossip? idek]

He's the singer, right? The incident in New York happened the night of his concert?

As a result of it, even. We think he planted subliminal messages in his performance, supplemented by his psionic abilities, for one, but strengthened by his connection to a dark god. I tried to get inside and see what was happening, and I think it's that same god who kept me out.

And you think that something similar is going on inside my head.

It wasn't an entirely dissimilar feeling.

Well, like I mentioned before, this was...given to me. Where they came from, well, describing it as powerful and dark probably wouldn't be a stretch.

[He lets out an intensely heavy breath, running a hand down his face as he seems to contemplate before he finally spits out:]

Hell. I got them from Hell when I was an infant.

[It's not specific, but he's still not sure she's even going to believe him. And if she does, then that's going to freak her out probably without even namedropping Satan too.]

Hell. [ she repeats the word slowly, as if she wants to be sure she heard him right. it's impossible to miss the skepticism in her eyes though. ] As in...

As in the opposite of Heaven.

[Shitty will save ahoy. Frustration setting in, which isn't necessarily directed at her but...yeah. The number of people who have believed him on this is insanely low, and one of them was MIA.

Every other god or goddess he's read about in a book has seemingly turned out to be real. Why is it these ones that no one believes in?]

It's alright. I get it. Besides, I did say you probably wouldn't believe me.

So what makes you so... certain?

[familybusiness]

[Time to try to give her a story that isn't long or too sob story-ish.]

My mother was killed by a demon that she found in my nursery the day I turned six months old. He pinned her to the ceiling before he set the house on fire. My Dad made it his life's mission to find it, and kill it, and he dragged my brother and I along for the ride. It's the reason we're hunters. [A beat before he adds:] The same thing happened to pretty much every other kid like me back home; their house burned when they turned six months, and their abilities manifested around the same time that mine did.

[He assumes it's probably easier to swallow if he tells it in a way where it happened on the other side of the Veil without getting into the mess that happened here, too.]

[telekinection]

And you think they were killed because of their abilities?

[familybusiness]

I don't know what happened to the other kids. Something was...bringing us together, right before I came through the Veil. Something about a plan for us, but I don't know anything else about it. It's where my memories get kind of fuzzy.

[He looks confused, honestly.]

My Mom, though, she was just killed for trying to interfere in whatever the demon was doing, as far as I know. She was normal.

... I'm sorry, Sam. I can't imagine how painful that must have been to come to grips with.
