The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.

[And Francesca (wearing this) strides right up next to Lan. She's not scared.] Yes, gods forbid anyone actually enjoy a party around here. [She casts an annoyed look in Lan's direction before turning her attention to Finnick.] I don't think it's too much to allow you one night of leisure before we start making you prove yourself.

Oh? [To his own credit, he's trying to tone it down slightly now. But how can be help being as charming as he is? Especially around such a pretty lady. He looks to Francesca with a smile that slides easily into place.] What does proving consist of? I'm not going to have to slay a dragon, am I?

[What? There's a lot of dragon shit around here ... ]

[Lan is totally unamused. By either of you. Get off his lawn.] That could be arranged.

No, it can't. [Yeah, she'll call Lan out on it. Where's he going to find a dragon just sitting around for him to use at his convenience?] And proving yourself worthy of our organization and title does not always require extreme life-or-death confrontations.

[She gives him a winning smile.] Perhaps you possess other equally useful skills to offer for our exploitation.

After all, there are other basis of worth, besides how well someone can swing a sword. Right, Sir Wellington? [She inquisitively raises an eyebrow in his direction.]

[Something about the having other useful skills to offer for exploitation comment puts Finnick off, but he bottles it down enough to be unnoticeable. Annnd he's back to being smarmy in Lan's direction after that 5 second reprieve. O well.]

I'd love to hear more about how I may prove myself worthy in Sir Wellington's eyes.

[She notices that Finnick is shaken with a 33 sense motive, despite his horrible crit fail attempts to mask it. She, obviously, never meant to offend him by her remark, but she does feel his reaction is quite telling. And it gives her a direction for this conversation. That is, after Lan ragequits, as he's destined to do.

She doesn't say anything yet though (because it's not her turn).]

[It's okay, Finnick, Lan doesn't notice. Not that he would care if he did. He just harrumphs at Francesca's trying to undercut his dramatic statements]

Come and see me when you've been in the field and done something worth remembering.

[She holds her comment waits for Finnick's response to Lan's challenge, looking between the two of them.]

[HE IS A LEGEND IN HIS HOME WORLD OKAY WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT FROM HIM X( Ok maybe not a legend but. He is a big deal.]

I've done many things worth remembering, just not here. But, I'm sure I'll surprise you in no time. [Yes, he is being petulant now. This is what Lan has driven him to.]

[Francesca raises her eyebrows, partly in surprise at his audacity, and partly in amused curiosity of Lan's coming reply.] Well then. [She says through a smirk.] If your confidence is well-founded, I'm sure we'll be most pleasantly surprised. [She's hoping for his sake it is well-founded and he doesn't have to eat his words. Lan doesn't deserve the self-satisfaction. She is, however, inwardly grimacing in anticipation of Lan's biting retort.]

Best hope you do, lad. Nothing worse than a man who's all talk and swagger. As much good as a man stuffed with straw.

Oh, you will be. [See this thing he's doing? It's called talking to Francesca and ignoring Lan. no1curr, Lan.]

[She give Finnick a wide smile of admiration.] I think we'd all be in agreement with that Lanston. [She extends her hand for Finnick to take as he will.] I'm Francesca, by the way.

Finnick. [He will take her hand and kiss it like a gentleman. :3 ] But you learned that earlier tonight, I guess.

[She watches him as he takes her hand and kisses it. It's not an unusual experience to her, just a less common one as of late.] I actually wasn't in attendance for your squiring ceremony, so this is the first I've gotten to see of you. Quite a first impression, I must say.

You weren't missing much. [Besides him boggling his pledge, a moment in time best left forgotten.] It's a shame my first impression to you was under such circumstances. [SIDEEYE TO LAN.]

[technophobic]

Perhaps he'll make the second count. [He sounds doubtful of that however. And shoves past you both without a goodbye. TO THE BOOZE.]

[She watches him go, not sad to see him leave. A smile still graces her lips when she turns back to Finnick.] Shall we start over? I'll give you a chance to make a real first impression.

[She motions to herself] I'm Francesca. [and then to him.] You're Finnick. And I'd let you kiss my hand again, but I suppose it's unnecessary. [Although she does sound slightly disappointed. She's a sucker for the chivalry.]

So what brings you to our castle, Finnick?

I could if you want. [He grins, but doesn't reach for it.]

[As she asks her question, his smile starts to fade.] I came from -- what do they call it? The mist? The shadows? I didn't know where else to go. And this ... it's something I can do. I know that I can. I feel good about it.

[socialgraces]

I came from the mist, too, though it was quite a while ago now. A lot of us did. [She offers, attempting to give him some comfort.

She studies him for a couple seconds.] I feel I should apologize for my earlier comment about exploiting your talents. I meant no harm. And obviously, that's not exactly what we're after here. So, I'm sorry if it offended you in any way.

[At this time he realizes he crit failed was not as successful at reining in his abundant feelings as he thought. He waves his hand dismissively.] I'm not offended. I know you meant no harm. I was just ... reminded.
