While scams about genetically modified corn wouldn't normally fall under the purview of the Knights, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has called in assistance from Wynn because of reports of the two agents investigating the matter running into some sort of Shadowkind that attacked them at the silos containing the corn in question.

The Knights fly out to Tennessee to check out the situation, and Christos drives them directly towards the silos in question, which are three lonely, old looking structures set in the middle of a field far away from any other civilization.

No. It's going to protect her. [ while she's not incredibly sure that is the case, she sounds firm as hell. (bluff 24) however, her fingers tighten around the cricket bat nervously and she swallows, adding, ] From us.

[ robert stares at amy, about to protest, but the creature raises one arm and then... casts a spell on robert that locks his higher brain away, leaving him dazed, before it turns its head towarsd them all and growls angrily.

a blade appears in christos' hand and he steps forward. ] Well, let's test the extent of her imagination, shall we?

[ time for init! ]

Oh yes get out the spiky thing because spiky things are going to help the situation, aren't they?

[ he steps forward, one hand outstretched, palm flat. ]

It's okay. We don't want to hurt you. We just want to talk, and make sure she's okay. How about we all calm down a bit, eh? [ (diplomacy 37) ]

[ the creature stares blankly at the doctor's hand, but seems to have at least decided that he's not worth attacking. it still looks defensive however, and gives no indication that it can actually understand what he's saying - maybe he just his intent.

either way, christos doesn't put his rapier away, eyeing them warily. he'll hold his action while the doctor decides what to do with his other turn, at least, although he hisses in irritation: ] If you think you can reason with such a thing, you're a fool.

[ the doctor turns his head, a slightly dark glance in christos direction. ]

And if you don't think it's worth trying then you are. Or would you rather solve everything with a sword?

[ he takes another step forward, hand outstretched, whether it can hear or not, he's still going to try, just in case it works. ]

I know. You're scared I know. I've been scared too. We all have. But it's okay to be scared. It's okay. And nobody is angry at you. Nobody is going to hurt you.

[ talking to the creature or the girl? well, one of those. (cont from previous diplomacy roll?) ]

[ the creature stares at him, its alien features impossible to read, moving its eyes to goggle at the hand, before it swings its gaze away from the doctor, staring at the others. but it doesn't budge to move towards the doctor, or to get out of the way. ]

[ amy, blessed impetuous ginger, moves forward a five foot step even though she's terrified. ]

Cindi, please. I promise we're here to help you and your dad!

[ well. her diplomacy is only a 13, but she's in front of a terrifying psion monster with only a cricket bat to protect herself, can you fucking blame her???

and she will ready an action to come in swinging if it makes a move toward her or robert, fingers curling tightly around the grip. ]

[ Torn on whether to attack or not, Sebastian sighs looking over to Christos like 'do you beleive this?' Maybe the doctor and Amy had a point since it wasn't attacking yet.

He moved stayed where he was. Calling out (diplomacy 17)] Kid, it's cool come down and see your dad. [ Looking back to Robert.] Say something, man.

[ but robert is still brainlocked by the creature, and his mouth flops open, but no plea comes out. when amy takes a step forward, cricket bat in hand, the creature takes a step forward towards her as if to block her path, breathing heavily as it fixates down on her, raising one hand as if to swipe at her, but leaving it hanging there, if she'd like to take another action. ] You're going to get yourself killed.

Probably.

[ what if she... takes another step forward to take it's hand? is that even an action? i know not, but it's happening? assaults with friendship. ]

[ it's at that moment that agent mulder comes running out of the forest behind them, and careens to a halt, staring in amazement at the creature, who recoils from amy's touch, and lets out a reflexive mind thrust at her. she must make a will save DC 15 or take 19 dmg. ] What the--

[ SIGH. christos moves forward in a flash, growling instructions at the doctor. ] Get up to that treehouse and talk that girl down. We'll hold it off. [ without another pause for protest, he moves beside amy, bringing his rapier around (atk 29, dmg 14). his attack cuts down some of the creature's natural magic defenses as well, nullifying some of its damage reduction for the next round. ]

[ there's a bit of a look in christos' direction because the doctor isn't really the best at being told what to do, especially in that tone. but grumps can come later, as for now he advances on the treehouse, to the stairs only calling back towards amy ]

Pond be careful!

[ amy lets out a startled cry of pain, dropping the cricket bat to clutch her head, stumbling back from the psion monster and dropping to her knees a few yards away. (will save 5) hopefully christos wasn't counting amy as part of his "we", because she's not going to be much of a help. ]

[ Sebastian pulled the Excalibur gun from behind the suit jacket he was wearing, taking aim but not shooting yet. These were moments he cursed not having his sword on him.]

[ mulder draws his own gun, aiming it at the creature as he moves in closer to amy, putting a hand on her shoulder and squatting beside her. ] What's wrong with her? [ he casts a panicked expression back at sebastian and the doctor, and then a wary eye back at the creature, who is already lumbering towards it. before mulder can react, it rakes down at him wit a long-clawed hand (atk 28, dmg 7), cutting him right across his beautiful cheek. ow. ]

Oh for gods' sake, just stay back. [ christos gets an attack of opportunity on the thing when it stupidly disengages from him just to fuck mulder up (atk 26, dmg 13), and follows behind it to get in a backstab swipe (atk 26, dmg 26), which causes it to let out a horrible wail, turning to glare at christos, all its anger fixed on him now. ]

[ up the treehouse the doctor turns to find the girl, hands out and palms up. ]

Hello! Blimey, it's all a bit go out there, isn't it? I'm the Doctor. Thought I'd come for a bit of a chat. What do you say, eh?

[ sans monster might be best, but one step at a time (diplomacy 34) ]

[ yes, mulder, stay back! amy's head clears enough for her to wobble to her feet, concern for mulder flaring as she pulls him away from christos and the monster. ]

You're bleeding! [ she's just gonna pull the sleeve of her jacket down over her hand and ineffectually try to stop the bleeding. (treat injury 14) ] Where's Agent Fowley?

[ IS SHE IN DANGER TOO??? must protect the fbi agents. ]

[ Shit just got real ♫ Sebastian moved from where he was to try and get between Mulder, Amy and the creature, while keeping the gun leveled on the creature, finally firing off (Atk 12, Dmg 9) ]

[ sebastian's shot can't pierce through the creature's tough hide, and mulder winces as amy tends to him. ] She [ he hisses a sharp intake of air ] went to get the local police, to report the missing girl, and see if we could get backup. [ he's honestly happy to stay out of it, if christos wants to fight the thing so badly.

meanwhile, up in the treehouse, the little girl is cowering in a corner, shaking like a leaf, hands drawn around her knees. she has her eyes shut tightly.

"It's my fault, my fault," she says. "They're going to take my Daddy, the men in suits." ]

[ as the creature turns to face him, christos stares into its eyes with a baleful expression, before springing into a blur of movement (atk 34/29/36 (crit)/20), slicing it with a series of expert cuts, strong enough to rip into it for 68 dmg, which is enough to send the creature slumping to its knees... and then falling face first into the snow, where it promptly vanishes upon impact. christos is left staring at the spot where it just was, shoulders heaving slightly, sword in hand, looking up to meet sebastian's gaze.

[ still patting mulder's cheek like the worst nightingale, amy manages to focus enough to watch the monster fall and vanish. oh. ] Is Robert okay?

[ the doctor doesn't move up too close, not wanting to scare her. he just sits in place, and crosses his legs a bit, getting comfy as if he's there for the long run ]

Dad's are great, aren't they? I had one once. Bit embarrassing sometimes though but they try their best. What did you do? You can tell me, you know. I've done all sorts of weird things. Tell you what, you tell me then we'll go and find your dad together, how's that sound?

[ Sebastian lowered the gun looking shocked as the creature vanished. Moveput the gun away moving over to Christos since Amy and Mulder seem to have each other.] You gotta show me how to do that shit, and hide a sword.
