[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions: Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask! Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

[ that causes her to break into a huge smile, clearly getting the reference. ] Well, it's certainly fortuitous that we both found our way here, then.

We seriously have to, like, take over one of the labs one day. I'll bring the snacks! Or-or we could go see your buddy in Oxford- I bet he's got some serious toys.

[rationalizes]

Oh, well he's-- he's not there anymore, I'm afraid. I haven't heard from him in years, actually.

[andblockbuster]

Whaaat? [well most of his people are... dead, which makes his expression fall a bit.] You think he's okay? I mean... strictly speaking most geniuses try not to fade into obscurity before proving the world wrong.

[rationalizes]

It is a bit... strange, in that I can't imagine him giving up on his research. But he and I--

Well. Things were a bit complicated, I suppose. Not, er, like that. Quite. Not entirely. [ gar stop being so awkward all the time. she tries one more time, more deliberately: ] He ... had his reasons, I imagine, for not keeping up contact after I left Oxford.

[well, with an 11 wisdom, topher immediately goes to the only thing a person with a penis would assume in this situation.]

Oh, you... didn't... like-like him, huh?

[rationalizes]

Honestly, I-- wasn't quite certain how I felt. And he apparently was -- well -- very certain. What seemed to me very suddenly, really. He meant a great deal to me as a friend and a fellow scientist, but there was always something about him I-- I couldn't quite describe, that held me back from anything further. And he seemed to take it rather personally when I couldn't give him a better answer than that I didn't know how I felt.

[ the mini ramble that the question brought forth comes to a halt and she blushes a bit, looking back up as if she only just remembered who she was talking to. you know. like the person she just met 10 minutes ago. whatever. ] Er. The point being that I'm not certain how to get in touch with him, unfortunately.

Men are idiots. [that's it. that's what he's got.] One day maybe society will deprogram that "gimme" attitude out of the average Joe, but until then... we're stuck with dudes who think a simple "no" is the psychological equivalent of being beaten with a rake.

[said wistfully, because thinking about how society is programming just makes him all fuzzy inside, I guess.]

[rationalizes]

[ she smiles a little bit at that, although she still looks a little troubled by the subject. ] Yes, well, a simple 'no' might have been more effective, but I regret to admit that I wasn't that clear with him at the time. I'd never given it much thought until he kissed me out of nowhere, and I suppose the rational side of me considered it a poor idea to just shut down the option before I'd carefully weighed it.

[ she shakes her head ] I know by now that I never felt for him what he wanted me to, but I do regret that that whole mess led me to me losing the assistance of one of the most brilliant minds I've ever known. We were working on something... quite extraordinary, at the time. [ she looks around, as though it's almost a secret. ] I wrote a dissertation on it, one that drew Wynn's attention to me in the first place, extrapolating the potential of building what Phillip and I called a Shadow Gate.

A technologically fueled portal that could find a way to destabilize an area of the Veil enough to enter the Shadow World.

Are you serious? [he leans forward with her, eyes widening. He's utterly forgotten her friendzone drama, because this is so much more fascinating.] That would... Could you actually send people back to their homes? I mean, the ones who wanna go, anyway. But even besides that...

[rationalizes]

I'm not certain about those from... from other dimensions, such as these recent arrivals, but to the Shadow World? I believe it's thoroughly possible, yes.

[andblockbuster]

So it's not even just scientific inquiry. It's practically humanitarian work, and I'm way into that. I mean it's... not exactly my wheelhouse, but if you need an extra brain to help you, I'm a quick study. Not a... whole lot of call for neurology experts here. I need to expand my horizons.

[rationalizes]

I could send you a copy of my study - the one that drew Wynn's attention, actually.

Make it so. [he just looks at her enthusiastically like please get that reference too. he's like a tiny dog.]
