The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[She presses her lips together.]

So, what's your name?

[She...already knows technically, because she was paying attention to the ceremony earlier, but she hates it when people act like they already know her.]

Rey. [ She wipes her hands off on a napkin, smearing the grease around more than anything else. ] I came from Andres, and through the Veil before that. And you?

[anthophobia]

Katniss. [She finally grabs some random small piece of food, nibbling on it idly.] I came through the Veil, too.

[forcevisions]

I wouldn't have guessed. How long has it been since you did?

[anthophobia]

It's been four years as of a couple of weeks ago.

[forcevisions]

Do you still miss the world you left behind?

[anthophobia]

[There's a slight tension that forms in her shoulders and her face is firm as she shakes her head.]

No. [The word has a little more intensity in it than she meant, and it hangs there for a moment before she adds:] I don't remember much about it, anyway.

[forcevisions]

Enough, it would seem.

[ There's a tiny hint of understanding there, but Rey doesn't take it so far as sympathy, lest it seem insulting to the stoic knight before her. ]

[anthophobia]

Enough to be glad I never have to go back.

[She's thankful for the lack of sympathy, even if it doesn't show.]

What about you? Do you remember home?

[At least she didn't bring it up first. Seems fair at this point.]

[ She nods. ]

There's only one thing I can't seem to remember. As I understand it, that makes me pretty lucky.

[anthophobia]

It depends on if your memories are worth remembering. Sometimes the past isn't all it's cracked up to be.

For your sake, I hope you wanted to keep yours. It's up to you whether you feel lucky about it or not.

They might not all be good memories, but I still wouldn't want to forget them. They're a part of me. I wouldn't be myself without the things I've done and seen.

[anthophobia]

I don't have most of my memories, and I'm still myself.

[Just saying.]

We're all just dealing with whatever we've been given. [She shrugs.] Who knows, maybe I only lost the ones I would have actually wanted to keep.

[If there were any.]

I understand. [ which doesn't mean she agrees, but Rey also understands that her perspective is that of a person whose only meaningful possessions are her memories. She can't remember the faces of her parents, though, and she wonders if that was the Veil's doing. If it stole them from her. ] We have no choice but to make the best of it; as I'm told, there's no undoing it. No going back.

[anthophobia]

[In that regard, Katniss understands all too well, and it means she came with pretty much literally nothing. Any 'possessions' she might have had would have only mattered because of memories, and she lost those too.]

You heard right. We're stuck here. But if you're gonna be stuck anywhere on this side, this is one is pretty decent.

[That's...a compliment. Somehow.]

Everyone's been very kind since I arrived. [ Of course, they were kind on Andres too, so she's really grouping in this whole world as being a considerable improvement over Jakku. ] Have you seen much of this world with the Knights?

[anthophobia]

[Lucky Rey, since that would not have been the case if she'd landed in that same spot not that long ago. Katniss remembers hearing about it, and almost says something, then decides against it.]

No, not really. I had a mission go wrong and then I ended up having some...personal things to deal with. [For a couple years nbd.] I only got back recently.

[forcevisions]

Welcome back, then. [ She nods earnestly as if to convey that the Knights are fortunate to have her back. She won't pry, not into personal matters of someone she'd only just met, but it's hard to deny her curiosity. ]

[anthophobia]

[Probably for the best, because if she did, Katniss would probably shut down. It's not a good topic for her and she doesn't talk about it with....almost no one, really.]

So am I. Coming to the castle helped me find people who I knew before I came through the Veil. [ She could say the Force brought her to them, but she's kind of learning that ... maybe not say that. And it's all secondhand for her anyway. ]

[anthophobia]

You have people from home here, too?

[It's a rhetorical question, really, considering she...just heard her say so.]

That seems to be kind of common around here.

[forcevisions]

Some people just have that sort of pull to them, I suppose. You're bound to find them, wherever they are. I know there are some others I'd like to hope will find their way here too—someday.

[anthophobia]

There probably aren't very many people from my world that wouldn't be better off here, I think. So I guess I can hope for that, too.

[Even if she won't remember them, either.]

Was it very bad where you came from?

[ The whole galaxy wasn't, Rey thinks despondently. She's sorry she didn't get the chance to see more of it. ]

[Most of her information is second-hand, but she remembers enough to believe what she's heard.]

Those in power shoved the children of those not into caged death matches to keep them from uprising. So yeah, I'd say it was pretty bad.
