Metahumans. [ Said as if she's rolling it around in her mouth for a taste. ] I like it. Better than "mutant" or "freak" or "burn the witch" complete with torches and pitchforks. Was there any sort of common thread to the abilities or was it a random grab-bag variety?

Well, most of them were triggered by the explosion of a particle reactor in Central City. We all got hit by the dark matter one way or another.

[watcherjunior]

Whoa. [ Okay, she's just going to pull up a seat. It's better than hovering and trying to keep a conversation going. ] Particle reactor, dark matter, that sounds awesome in a completely pee-your-pants-in-terror kinda way. [ Not to be confused with the many other forms of awesome triggered by massive acts of disaster. ]

So home for you is like living in a superhero movie. [ Now, how does one ask 'do you have powers' without being so... blunt. ] Would you say you're one of the movie's protagonists or the mild-mannered-but-still-cute sidekick who is often used for bait?

[supertardiness]

[He considers for a moment before tipping his head to the side.]

I think that depends on who's city I'm in.

[Because when he's in Star City it is definitely the latter.]

But I think for the most part I'm the protagonist. Generally speaking.

Whose city -- [ She shakes her head, cutting off her own question. It's probably not important, because he's here now. ]

Generally speaking, what would said protag, aka you, be able to do? If that's okay to ask. Cause I totally understand it not being okay to ask. Powers generally equal big time secrets.

[Barry Allen is very terrible about keeping secrets. It's a thing with him, and he definitely doesn't feel the need to keep secrets here, where he's among his people. So he's just going to grin at her, before zipping off in a flash, leaving her with his books and notes all by herself.



... only to return a few seconds later with a box of pizza.]

[ In those scant few seconds between his disappearance and reappearance, Dawn is left to keep his notes from flying away and wondering what window got opened and what random big gust of wind was that and--

Train of thought officially derailed the moment he's back, pizza in hand. If there's anchovies on that pizza, it could be love. Or instant friendship. She's not picky. ]

Oh. My. God. That was totally cool. Superspeed. I mean, I could run fast [ Still under the assumption she was the Slayer before the Veil. ], but never anything like that. Like, not even on my very best day.

[supertardiness]

[There are no anchovies. There is pepperoni, jalapenos and black olives. Just because he has superspeed does not mean he has good taste in pizza.]

It's got some downsides, though. Like I literally have to eat like three of these pizzas to not pass out from lack of fuel.

[ SADNESS. But that mix doesn't seem too awful, which Dawn will prove by taking a slice once the box is open. She isn't going to pull it from his hands or anything. ]

Oh wow. I mean, that puts a major dent in your food budget, but holy cow, I wish I could eat carbs like that and not show it. Or get, like, a massive tummy ache from it.

[supertardiness]

[He nods.]

I mean, I know it probably sounds great? But when you have to eat like two hobbits pretty much every day so that you don't pass out it kind of takes all the fun out of it.

[watcherjunior]

Eeeeee, yeah. I imagine daily helpings of second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper [ pop culture 25 ] alone would get old really fast. [ Pause. ] And I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed of myself for remembering that whole quote.

[supertardiness]

[He's quick to shake his head.]

Never ashamed. Lord of the Rings is an essential part of anyone's reading and/or movie education.

Right? I read Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit during downtime on my first mission. We, uh-- [ She flashes a somewhat sheepish look. ] We had a lot of downtime.

[supertardiness]

I guess it can vary when it comes to missions. Some of them take longer than others?

[watcherjunior]

Yeah, sometimes. This one had some real... extenuating circumstances. One of my friends learned two languages during that mission.

[supertardiness]

[He smirks slightly.]

That is an excellent use of their time. I probably would have just gotten really frustrated really fast.

[There's a beat.]

I probably would have run in and out of town a lot.

[watcherjunior]

If only you could rack up some version of frequent flyer miles. Like... super runner miles. [ Ha ha, ha... ha. Please, no pity laughs. ] Does the whole superspeed thing make it hard to sit still?

[supertardiness]

[Nope, no pity laughs. Barry will grin because that's exactly his kind of joke.]

Sometimes, yeah. Especially because it can seem like things are happening really, really slowly.

[watcherjunior]

[ That grin is a good sign. At least, she'll take it that way. ]

Yeah, that would probably drive me a little crazy. Or probably, like, a lot crazy. I am in awe of your not being completely driven bonkers.

[supertardiness]

Well, it's not so bad when I'm engaged in something. Sitting here, talking to you? I'm good. But if I was stuck on a train or plane all by myself? That would be awful. It's easier for me just to run wherever I'm going.

[watcherjunior]

Good thing the only people who go on missions by themselves are the Claws. So any flying to missions, you'll have plenty of people to engage.

[ And her brain is just now turning over that last part of what he said. ] Well, you can't run everywhere, right? Cause, oceans.

[supertardiness]

[He pauses for a moment, before holding up a finger.]

Actually, I've been thinking about that. I think if I managed to maintain a consistent velocity, I might be able to run on water.

[watcherjunior]

Shut. Up. [ That squeak she just made translates into "OH MY GOD THAT IS THE COOLEST THING EVER!!!11!!" ]

Okay, we so have to test that out. Probably on the lake, cause the pool wouldn't be long enough to really try it.

[supertardiness]

[He nods in agreement.]

That is definitely a plan.

[There's a beat.]

When it gets warmer, because that lake is probably freezing right now.

Yeah, no, definitely. We don't need you getting hypothermia just to test out a theory.
