I'm fine. Are you driving?

[beks]

[Rebekah holds her phone up and shakes her head.] I got Uber.

[She pushes off the counter, watching the dot move.] He's got no clue where to go, but I figured it would be easier to hop between places if I didn't have to worry about parking.

[lissatrinall]

I suppose that makes sense. [ she seems to appreciate the practicality, at least ] Let's go.

[beks]

[Rebekah nods and moves from the lobby out the front doors and down the walkway. Of course, the driver is local, but not that local that he knows where the hell to pick someone up at the Institute. She'll flag him down curbside and give him a look of disappointment. The two of them will slip in the back and Rebekah will give him the address to the first club. They're headed to Egg London, mostly because Rebekah likes the idea of the outdoor courtyard.]

I'm glad you opted to join me, tonight. I feel like I'm ready to come back - even if Nik is still off fulfilling his internal quest for greatness or whatever it is that he's doing.

I'm glad to hear it. You should be free to follow your own course, whatever his happens to be.

[beks]

Very true. [She knows that she can't continue to try and meet Nik's expectations. He's paranoid on his best days and tolerant of others rarely. She had wanted her freedom and had taken it easily after a few months with the Knights, but she misses her niece and she's bloody bored, if she's honest.]

Well, tonight, it's drinking, dancing, and making others jealous that they're not with us.

[lissatrinall]

It's been a very long time since I've done any dancing. [ she at least doesn't sound opposed ]

[beks]

I'm sure you'll be fine. [She smiles at Lis'sa.] I'm certain that the standards of dancing have lowered with how many people are often in these clubs.

[As the driver pulls up to the club, Rebekah pays the driver via the app and then exits the car along with Lis'sa. There's a line, but Rebekah has no concern about that. Usually women are allowed into the club ahead of the line and two single women - that's a Golden Ticket for a club owner. They easily make their way to the front and with just a smile (cha 24) the velvet rope is lifted and in they go.]

I doubt anyone expects anything beyond keeping up with the underlying bass at a place like this. [Rebekah offers her hand to Lis'sa, intending to bring them to whichever bar is closest.]

[ she hesitates for just a moment, before taking rebekah's hand and letting her lead the way through the crowd so they don't lose one another. reptilian eyes take in the chaotic scene uncertainly - there's a hint of judgment in them in regards to a lot of the patrons, but she doesn't say anything else as they slide up to the bar ]

[beks]

[Rebekah stays alert, her vampire senses (spot 23 | listen 34 ) helping keeping them out of the way of people that are definitely far too inebriated for their own good. At the bar, Rebekah slips her light hold off of Lis'sa and leans against the bar to gain the attention of the bartender. She orders a gimlet and then turns her attention to watching Lis'sa as she orders.]

[ lis'sa is a wine drinker when she drinks at all tbh. but she'll order something shadow-specific along those lines, ignoring the guy openly scoping them both out pressed to the bar beside them ]

[beks]

[Rebekah doesn't pay much mind to the guy looking at them. She doesn't care what others are trying to figure out about the two of them. She sips her drink and stays close to Lis'sa.]

Any plans to travel outside of work?

[lissatrinall]

There's a xenobiology conference in Mumbai that I'm planning to attend rather soon.

[beks]

Mumbai is beautiful. I hope you don't plan on spending all your time at the conference. Synthetic biology is interesting, but there's far more to see there.

You've been?

[beks]

Only from the comfort of my couch. [She watched a lot of travel channel recently. Making plans to go everywhere and then not going anywhere at all.]

My family only traveled through most of Europe before returning overseas to what had been claimed by the English. [That whole Vikings in Mystic Falls thing really does make their travel history a bit weird.]

And when was that?

[beks]

[Rebekah gestures to the bartender to bring her another drink, before turning to answer Lis'sa's question.]

That's an answer that needs another drink. Most of the traveling through Europe was with my brothers. We had been running from our father and living under the pretense that we were an established noble family. We were still very new to being vampires - unaware of our powers. That was around 1002. We ran from then until around the seventeenth century. That's when we decided to return to North America. To put an ocean between us and our father. We traveled through the United States for quite some time. [Though, Rebekah spent most of it in a coffin. As did her brothers.]

And in all that time, what would you consider the most memorable sight?

[beks]

Despite the castles of the countryside and the vast rolling hills that featured a myriad of colors within the flowers that grew there... [She thinks of New Orleans and how her family established their home there and how safe they were for so long. She knows the pain she brought her family by luring Michael to the city, but she had been in love and there were always mistakes to be made when Rebekah's emotions pulled her too strongly.]

Sunsets in New Orleans. It was early in the nineteen-hundreds. The city was so alive and in the evenings it would take on a new life, but for those few moments as the sun would set... [Rebekah smiles with fondness.] It was as if the streets were truly lined with gold.

[ lis'sa watches her as she describes it, finding something of interest in the way the memory seems to spread through her ] ... I can't remember the last time I watched a sunset. Anywhere, really. [ she takes a drink, a slight shrug of her shoulder ]

[beks]

That's a shame. They're usually quite lovely here in London. All the stone buildings seem to absorb the light and create a cast of whatever color the sky is that evening.

[She takes the drink that the bartender has brought her and takes a long swallow before facing Lis'sa.] If we stay out late enough, we might get to see the second best thing -- the sunrise.

I suppose that might cap the evening off well.

[beks]

I agree. [She finishes her drink and then turns to face Lis'sa fully.]

Now, I believe it's time we head out into the middle of that and create some space for the two of us.

[ she takes another big sip of her own ] I should warn you, I'm not much of a dancer.
