Uh, yeah, it's my thing. Way more than swimming. The greenhouse in the back is mine and I think it's pretty common knowledge that the garden is mine, too.

Go dry off and change and I'll show it to you. [ she pulls herself out of the pool finally to do the same and to change lucia as well. ]

[ that makes her eager to scramble off to dry off. but so does the cold that greets her the moment she's out of the water. rey curses under her breath—something not of earth, a huffed kriff—and pulls the towel over her skin in a way that's functional rather than comfortable, never fully wrapping herself in it. ]

[ vi only survives the cold out of spite -- it will not defeat her -- so it's sympathy that greets rey's plight. lucia doesn't seem to enjoy being tugged out of her sunspot either, fussing as she wakes up and vi puts her in one of the deck chairs, changing her with practiced swiftness until she's dry and cocooned in a blanket, sucking her thumb. ]

[ She changes with the haphazard urgency of someone who realLY WANTS TO SEE THE FLOWERS, then approaches in an offer to hold Lucia while Vi does the same. ]

Thanks. [ lucia blinks owlishly up at her with her bright green eyes, while vi strips out of her sodden suit and yanks a pair of ravenclaw sweatpants on and a cubs hoodie over her long sleeve white tee shirt. her wet hair gets twisted up into a bun as she slides her flip flops on. f u winter. all the wet junk is piled into a plastic bag and then into the regular bag to carry with her, hefting it over her shoulder. ] Do you want me to take her back?

[ In the interim, Rey has begun to place with Lucia, making faces for the infant to imitate. She looks up when Vi offers, and shakes her head. ]

I don't mind.

[ WELL IN THAT CASE. vi is never going to begrudge anyone showing her daughter attention and love, lord knows they all need more of it. ]

Okay, then let's go. [ and she'll just start to lead them all out of the pool house and toward the back garden. ] I asked Wynn if I could put a greenhouse in a couple years ago and I'm really proud of it. I can grow magic ingredients and herbs for cooking, year round without having to worry about the frost. Plus flowers, flowers all the time.

[ and it's so beneficial to her mental well being during the winter months, it's really the reason she's capable of anything during those times. ]

And you tend to it by yourself?

[ She follows after, hefting Lucia onto the hip where her belt doesn't boast a leather bag filled with everything she still has from her own galaxy. ]

Not always. Sometimes the other nature people visit, sometimes the clerics if they need something, but mostly me. It's kind of my thing.

How'd you learn to do all of it? Tend to them the way they need and keep them indoors?

Honestly, I'm not sure? I don't remember anything about my childhood so if someone taught me I don't remember it. I've always just known what to do, like an instinct.

[ though rey looks confused for a moment, she figures it out. ]

You lost that when you came through the Veil?

[ not for the first time, she feels lucky to have not lost anything. ]

Yup. Everything before I joined the Legion is just a whole lotta nothing. But, like, upside? Forgot my first period. That's cool.

It's much less of a nuisance on a planet like this one. [ You don't know suffering until you're just casual bleeding through your clothes because you can't stop working. And also your periods are inconsistent because undernourishment. #ScavengerLife. ] But I suppose that, at least, is a memory most could happily do without.

That's probably true. At least periods taught the boys in the Legion the miracle of tampons to plug wounds in the field.

What's a tampon?

[ vi just gapes for a second. ]

...it's-- it's basically a hunk of cotton you jam up there to catch the blood and then you flush it and replace with a fresh one. That sounded awful, but they're really great.

You just plug it up? Is it really alright to do that?

[graveflowers]

Yeah, not forever, you have to change it out or you can get sick, but it's a pretty legit plan. Actually, hold on. [ she pauses in their walk to rifle through the duffle bag, unearthing a semi-crushed tampon that she rips free of the plastic packaging so rey can see the purple plastic applicator. ] Voila, a tampon.

[ She makes a ? ? ? ? face at the applicator, snatches it from her, and then ... plunges it so the cotton pops out the top. Surprise widens her eyes, opens her mouth, and gets a near-flinch from the rest of her body before she scrambles and catches it before it hits the floor. Then she prods at the cotton. ]

So it's just cloth made to soak it up? How much do women of this world bleed? [ She has absolutely never had a period heavy enough to require a sponge ok. ]

Depends on the vag. Me? Barely at all before Lu because I'm so grossly skinny and now not at all after Lu. Some people it's just all blood, all the time for a whole week.

A whole week. How often?

Once a month. It's a torturous life to be a woman with a healthy weight. But now they use birth control to help lessen it, which is cool. Go science.
