[She squints at him, in one of those glances like "Yeah, but you don't know my mom." sort of ways. She knows that she won't really find him to turn into that brat, waving her finger, trying to insist that someone else agrees with her.

She feels like she's left that side of her behind with the rest of it.]

'Spirited enough.'

Just how much spirit is enough? [She's teasing, of course, but mostly to get herself off of thinking about her mother.]

So what plans have I interrupted so far for you today? I mean, you didn't plan on spending your afternoon with spirited company and you don't seem like the type to actually care about the holiday today, but I also don't see you putting on some sweatpants and eating Fritos out of the bag for the rest of the day, either.

Trying to help out a friend, that's all. Summoning a few spirits who might point me in the right direction.

[huntersdaughter]

[She takes a sip of her drink.]

See all that vagueness is just making me more curious.

[rituals]

A mess with Greek gods, if that helps.

[huntersdaughter]

[Her hand lifts and she gestures with her fingers for a little amount.]

Do you want help? I can postpone my pizza, Fritos, and sweatpants.

Helping me usually doesn't end well for the helpers.

How bad is your track record?

[ he gives a humorless snort ] Let's just say, I'm not the horse to bet on.

[huntersdaughter]

Alright. [She's not going to try and force him into letting her help. She isn't too keen on dying today, so why press her luck. She does however reach into her jacket pocket and pull out a ballpoint pen. She reaches for a napkin and jots down her number and name. Turning the napkin she pushes it toward him.]

I have no problem just enjoying the company, but if you ever decide that your odds are better and you could use some stubbornness [She shrugs.] give me a call.

[rituals]

[ he picks up the napkin with a pleased smirk, and then tucks it in his trenchcoat pocket ] Got yourself a deal, luv. [ when he pulls out his hand, he's got a card between two fingers, and he slides it across to her. you know the one ]

[huntersdaughter]

[Jo picks up the card and smirks, reading it over. She taps it on its edge before tucking it into the back pocket of her jeans.] Good. I'd hate for you to end up all alone all the time.

[rituals]

Oh don't worry. I've more company than a man could want sometimes. [ ghosts and shit ok ]

[huntersdaughter]

Well, hopefully if you're calling me it's company you want to have - not company you end up with.

[rituals]

I imagine it would be.

[huntersdaughter]

[and then.... they eat and drink. So much food. a few more drinks. she's nearly done with the most recent one, holding the glass so it rests on the edge of the base, tipping so the inch of liquid makes it look fuller.]

So what do you know about the Veil? [She's probably skirted around any real topics worthwhile to fill in their smalltalk while eating, but she's had a few more drinks and she's decided that he's going to know at least something.]

Depends on what you want to know. How to get back through it? That takes a lot more magic than I can muster.

[huntersdaughter]

[She shakes her head.] No, I've been here too long for it to be worth it to try and go back. [Because, clearly she doesn't care if he knows that about her, now.]

[There's a small frown.] Do you know people who have gone back? [It seems an interesting topic to start out on when she asked about the Veil.]

[rituals]

Not personally. But I've heard of it being done by magicians in the distant past.

They say Merlin himself knew the trick. Not sure if there's anything to that.

[huntersdaughter]

Sounds like rumors to me. People wanting to hold onto hope. To think that there might be an answer out there, somewhere.

[She shrugs.] I've never gone looking for the answers to that thing. It dropped me off and I know that if I hadn't ended up here... I would probably be dead. So, I just keep going.

Sometimes, though, I wonder if one day it'll just stop bringing people here.

Not likely. Seems more like it's damaged, malfunctioning.

Unless something out there fixes it, I don't think it's going to stop of its own accord.

[huntersdaughter]

Malfunctioning? [That's something she hadn't considered.] How is it supposed to work normally?

[rituals]

Keep magic out of this world entirely. Gods and all.

[huntersdaughter]

Was it like that before? [She frowns a bit.] Did this place not have any magic at all?

[rituals]

S'how it was meant to be. According to the Angels.

[huntersdaughter]

[She's not sure if she should keep asking him questions. Maybe this isn't a topic he's thrilled about doing a deep dive on, but she's never thought about the Veil as something that's not working right. She just assumed it was just something this world had.]

Meant to be, but hasn't ever been before? Because, it wouldn't surprise me if Angels just had a bucket full of wishful thinking.
