[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.  This takes place after the Knights have returned from Dimitris' wedding.

Um... psionic sea-people who sparkle and have rage problems?

[Her eyes widen slightly. Thedas has nothing like that, as far as she knows.]

Sometimes I forget just how different this world is from my own.

I think those are still weird to a lot of people here too.

I feel like I ought to be writing some of this down.

[She cuts herself off, letting out a brief sigh followed by a grateful smile. Declining help has become her default since losing the better part of her arm, but in this, she thinks she can accept it. He's not offering because he's seen her fumble or struggle-- only because he's being kind.]

Yes, thank you. How could I turn away an offer like that?

[He smiles in return, nodding his agreement, before going to get the cleaning supplies they'll need.]

Great. I'll grab some supplies and we can get started.

[She smiles warmly, appreciative.]

Perhaps this will be a good opportunity for me to test the more mundane uses of magic in this realm, as well.

[His eyebrow goes up curiously.]

Yeah? I'm not too familiar with that kind of magic.

[It's Homo Magi magic that he knows the most and even then the power is beyond his scope.]

To be honest, I'm not sure what I can do here-- I intend to use the resources offered by the knights to test the limits of my abilities. I certainly know what magic I was capable of back home, but...

[She trails off, and her smile turns a little wry.]

Things have changed. It's been very disorienting-- I don't have contact with the Fade here. I've never been without that in my life.

[He nods slowly, not quite understanding what the Fade is, but maybe it's something similar to the Veil.]

Is that where your magic comes from back home?

[twistingveil]

In a way. It's a realm of dreams, where spirits dwell. All mages have a direct connection to it.

[That connection is complicated in its own right, but she'll simplify it as best she can for now.]

[His head tips to the side again, considering for a moment.]

They may have something similar here, but I don't know.

[Knees bending too easily? Well. That's not what Ashe would have expected from Flemeth, from their brief meeting.]

Did she really? I'm afraid she wasn't in such good humor when we met, but the situation didn't allow for it, much.

I can only guess that someone was bowing to her.

[ it's so weird that she can't remember. hawke hates these odd gaps in her memory. these were important events! ]

Given what I've seen of Thedas and Ferelden, I'm not surprised. She said something about us... potentially saving each other's lives. She saved my family and Aveline and then whatever ritual we did may have saved hers.

[ or something. she's not clear on the details and flemeth wasn't forthcoming. ]

She wasn't very talkative about the things that mattered. [ or maybe she was just cryptic. ] What was she like when you met her?

Tight-lipped about all but the present situation, and even then, cryptic at best.

[She frowns, just a little.]

Solas-- knows her well, or so I've been lead to believe. I had occasion to speak with the spirits of ancient Arlathan, caught in the remains of an Elvhen library beyond the Veil. They spoke at length about both Mythal and Fen'harel.

That part hasn't changed. She never did tell me how to shapeshift into a dragon. [ because that was how they met, after all. ] If it's all the same to you, I think I'll hope not to see her again.

[ though she can imagine what those spirits said was interesting, she isn't sure it's her place to pry anymore. maybe another day; she's learned enough for now. ]

No offense taken. I'm not quite certain how I'd feel about seeing her again, either.

[The fact that she will seems inevitable-- or at least it had seemed so in Thedas.]

Ma serannas, I realize this is all a bit much.

[hawkeing]

[ hawke gives a slight shake of her head. ] It's only like being hit by an abomination and I've had plenty of that.

[ all terrible joking aside, she gives ashe a more sympathetic look. ]

I would think it more difficult for you. [ hawke might not have lost her entire culture, but she can understand. kirkwall did a number on her. ]

I am-- still processing, I think.

[It had changed so much, uprooted everything she'd ever believed in, and so much of it still didn't seem real. She had been away from her people for nearly three years now, and perhaps that was enough to soften the blow, but it did not change the fact that she now felt there was a great void within her that her faith and her promise to preserve whatever could be learned of her people's past had once filled.]

It does seem a great loss, and yet if what we believed in was never real to begin with... it makes sense, doesn't it? Why our gods were never able to be there for us. They were never gods at all.

I think a lot of things in Thedas are never quite what they seem.

[ says the champion of kirkwall. her life was something of digging through the shitstorms to find some grain of truth. or comfort. ]

It may make sense now... but that hardly means it doesn't hurt. I used to think my uncle was nice and sweet and look how that turned out.

[ terribly. it turned out terribly. hawke has no idea if ashe knows, but still. her point stands. ]
