[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.  This takes place after the Knights have returned from rescuing Gar in New York City, but before the planned Keijen Blade concert at the beginning of 2017.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. [You can only dodge the emails, texts, and other messages you've been getting for so long. Eventually, Ben Wyatt, accountant to the knights, will track you down and drag you to his office, the one with his name over a taped-up sign that has the words Dragon's Headache scrawled on it. He has seen the bills coming from your company card. He has the receipts you've turned in. And now he puts both of them in front of you, looks you dead in the eye, and raises his eyebrows.]

I've noticed some discrepancies.

[Or maybe you'll find him in one of the rec rooms where he's setting up a complicated-looking board game. If you're feeling adventurous, it might be time to venture into the world of The Cones of Dunshire.

[He gives her a tired, pained look.]

Have you just been buying clothes with the company credit card since you got it? You know you get a paycheck, right? For things like your daily wardrobe and any non-knight related expenses?

That doesn't sound like me.

[ She is literally wearing prada clothes that she bought on her card right now. ]

If I were buying clothes on the company card, it would be strictly to support an undercover operation.

Yeah, there's no way you go on enough undercover missions to fashion week to account for this bill.

I'm sorry. If you want to requisition my mission reports, you'll need to speak with my section head.

[mrknope]

[He gives her a hard, tired look.]

Pretend for a moment that I'm competent enough that I've already done that. I've looked at what receipts you've turned in and the bills and your mission statements and I know you're using the company card for non-company related expenses. I'm giving you a last chance to try and work with me before I have to take drastic measures.

[immuno]

Hmmm.

[ She rolls her eyes, but seems to relent after a moment. She adopts a thoughtful look, folding her arms beneath her chest and tilting her head to the side while she considers. Finally, she shakes her head. ]

Then, I guess I would say I don't believe you have drastic measures.

[mrknope]

[Honestly, there wasn't much she could do to make him not take drastic measures. But she could have at least made him feel bad about it. He holds out a hand.]

All right. You're cut off. Hand over the card.

Excuse me?

[ she recoils with the same vigor someone might respond to a suggestion that they be punished with maiming. ]

It's going to be deactivated either way, but you're more likely to get it back someday if you cooperate. If you need to make mission-related expenses, you may do it with your own funds and send us the receipts. If they are actually needed for the mission, we'll reimburse you.

[immuno]

You can't do that!

[ her defensive tone comes across as shrill and whiny. probably because she's the approximate age and maturity of a sorority girl. ]

Obviously, I can. And I am. [Ben gives her a tired look.] If you didn't want to lose your spending privileges, maybe you should have treated your employer's money more responsible.

Is this how you get away with being employed by him without risking your life like the rest of us? Pushing papers, chasing down fraudulent charges? I'm sure that makes you really popular.

[mrknope]

[Yeah, this is definitely the life he dreamed about when he joined a secret order of knights.] If you think you could be better at me than my job, Sir Martin, feel free to take it up with the boss. But I think you'll find fighting angry dragons is a lot less scary. You people hadn't even heard of a balanced budget before I came along, had you?

Please. You're crunching numbers all day. I could do your job in my sleep.

[ and ... she could. it would not be unreasonable to say that lydia martin can expect to be the youngest person to ever win a field's medal, someday soon. so when she says it, it's with such impatient confidence that it's an already dismissed point. ]

But no one in this castle wants to. Because no one cares. It's not important when you factor in that the rest of us are putting our lives on the line for the betterment of shadowkind. Some things are more important than crunching numbers.

Considering you appear to be under the impression that money is infinite and managing it properly isn't important to allowing you to continue to do your job, I highly doubt that.

[Crunching numbers? Sure. The math part isn't hard. But he was great at math when he was elected mayor. Didn't stop Ice Town from being a thing.]

How do you think I got this job?

[ dryly; ] Bad luck.

I was recruited. [You can't just put your resume in for a secret organization. You have to know it exists first.] Your boss wanted someone to look at the finances and cut out unnecessary expenses. So you can complain all you want. Until such time as you prove yourself responsible, you'll have to depend on your own extremely generous salary. I'm sure you'll manage, somehow.

[ She reluctantly pulls the card out of her pink prada wallet. Yep. That obvious. She places it down on the desk but does not take her fingers off of it, pinning it there like she can't quite let go. ]

Don't think for a second that this is over.

[mrknope]

Yes, because threatening war with the guy who controls your finances is a great idea.

[Tempting as it is to take actions out of spite, he is not actually going to. Probably. Unless she pushes him a lot.

He misses Chris. He got so many fewer death threats when he worked with Chris.]

Please try to compose yourself as an adult. Your long credit card-less nightmare will end much faster if you do.

Are you threatening to extend it if I don't behave the way you want me to? Because that's not sexist. I'm sorry that my emotional reaction to you ruining my life is inconvenient for you!
